BENT BRONCO TIE ROD? Here's Your Fix!

We got to test out the factory Ford Bronco Raptor inner tie rod, with a sleeve, on the Rubicon Trail. The goal was to see if we could find the bend point while rock crawling our APG Bronco Pro Runner, and we did! For the majority of off roaders, the sleeved setup would hold up just fine. But for anyone looking to push the limits a little further, APG makes the perfect upgrade!

I’m sorry to hear about your grandfather. It’s always sad when something like that happens. Cheers to George and the APG crew for wanting and improving their products and standing behind their work. That’s integrity and that’s honorable in my eyes. He (and his crew) really want to be the pinnacle in off roading the Bronco (and I’m sure other types of vehicles down the line). It shows he has integrity to want better, to be better. I hope he does it!

Sorry to hear about your loss. Glad you were able to spend some time with him before he passed. Unfortunately, I don't think I could trust APG until we find out more about this hardtop disaster between them & ADV. You keep saying there are two sides & you're right. So for now, I wouldn't order so much as a washer from either. Because the one thing we do know for sure is that millions was taken from consumers & you appear to be the only ones with the hardtop.... And there are plenty of other companies that make a tie rod solution without the black cloud hanging over them.

Im curious, I'm a current engineering student - you make a lot of comment in the video about "finding the breaking point" and using your experience for informing the parts design going forward. Im newer, so perhaps it was mentioned in the past, but did you have any in-line sensors during your run? Your video & commentary on when/how you broke it are I'm sure super useful from the perspective of the shop being able to tell consumers; but in terms of doing the static calculations & force distribution modeling I imagine a continuous stress record from actual in the field driving would be invaluable. Mentioned & sent the video to my partner who is MechE (I'm civil/environmental with a minor) - and she was also commenting on the same point. There are a lot of in-line force sensors that should be able to bolt onto or button to the part itself & take readings during an entire trail run. If that were brought back to the shop, you'd be able to offer both layman/driver advise on the limits, and the designers would have real world limits for any simulations. Id love to hear more about that design process & how theyre (/ you're) having an impact on the whole community in custom builds, especially moving into parts changes - i imagine the perspective y'all can provide as drivers and mechanics would be fascinating. More vids like this one would be very cool

So sorry for your loss of Grandpa. Prayers go out to y’all. Have you thought about a brake upgrade? Just thinking of all that rotating mass of those huge tires plus weight of the Bronco itself it adds up. I upgraded my brakes on my JKU and I’m running 35’s. If just running Off road not needed so much. But flying down the public roads at speed, may want to go with a much larger setup. Take care to you both. Love your videos

Or is the machined bolt to allow it to rotate around the bolt. I love technical stuff and learning new things would be nice to know the answer to that question.

Can you advise me? I have bronco raptor I have a modified off-road trailer that I tow a few times a month deep in the back country I’m also running a zero offset wheel with a 37 13 1/2 wide tire and running a winch on the front I would like to get a little bit more height out of my bronco raptor not much but a little more if I put preload spacer at the bottom of the shocks is that bad? I look at it from being a motorcycle racer which we used to call sag and static sag and we could adjust that out with preload adjustment, should I replace the entire spring? Or can I add a spacer nothing larger than 1 inch? The reason I’m asking you is because I heard you say something about the tie rod and a spacer and I understand that angle if it exceeds its limit could break I’m not rock crawling but I love deep back country travel lots of creek small river crossings etc. I guess you would call that over landing I eibach Lift springs and companies like FMI make the lower spacer, could you advise? I love the bronco raptor simply for when I go on long trips it’s just the perfect vehicle for me I also love jeeps I’m an owner of 17 jeeps in the past including a 392 any advice would be great thanks for all your videos I love watching them👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 i’m sorry about your grandpa but I’ll bet he was so happy that you were there👌
