Really impressive how dynamic the percussion is with just one drum.

I'm IN LOVE with this band. Pure brilliance.

I managed to stumble into this band's (And of course Courtney's solo) and collaborative work) as a result of perusing a thread on reddit guitar pedals, where Courtney was playing music with Emily Hopkins, as they were there to celebrate Chase Bliss' 10-Year Anniversary of making guitar pedals. I'm a huge pedal head, myself, and love Emily's work on the harp, and her use of pedals, as well. Checked out numerous Bent Knee videos as well as the solo work and was completely floored. I love the way she incorporates pedals into her vocal work. So explosive and dynamic, while also soulful and evocative.. I'm so glad I found this music. How can I not have heard your music before? I continue to be amazed by this band. Courtney's voice is absolutely stellar. It defies category or genre. It's a breath of fresh air. Playing without the benefit of effects is the true acid test for a band. Here, all I heard was a hint of reverb added to Courtney's vocal, in post (?). All of you are incredible! I love the syncopated feel, the odd time signatures, and the dynamics you use to really tell a story. Well done, everyone. Huge respect. Thank you so much for posting this! Very much appreciated :-).

In a perfect world people feel perfectly comfortable drifting from their usual cliques at concerts. The few I bother going out to are the ones I'm real passionate about and just by coming out you're already my friend, Bent Knee is one of those bands.

The drummer seems to be in 4/4 with a lot of syncopations. I’m not sure if the plucking at the beginning really connects with anything else. Then, there’s triplets used in main melody in the second half. Then, other parts seem to be in one measure and then change. Following the guitar lines is confusing because the rhythm seems to play out over a long number of measures. At one point, following the guitars I counted six, five, five. I don’t know, it’s a tough one.

This is really old, but the person who said 3:2 was right.
@shantanudhiman81945 жыл бұрын
Gabe Oleinik yes bro, as far as I have noticed and counted myself, it's 2x3 (or 4x3) polyrhythm. If there are more time signatures used in between then I didn't notice them very well, but yeah, they are really brilliant 😌👌

you must get this all the time but a lot of your songs sound like deconstructed covers of a much less interesting band =) you know? they always sound at once experimental and whacky and extremely cohesive, like you started with something much more boring but catchy, and then played jenga with it, pulling out as many underlying elements as you could without making a mess, all the while topping it up with frills and unexpected accents until what's left is, and get ready this is a mixed metaphor, this graceful bioluminescent jellyfish from the deep that you don't think should exist but somehow does.
