Great concept. I really liked your technique for ripping those small pieces and steaming the wood.

tim sway that sure is safer. That's the first jig I've seen that looks like it gives consistent results though.. not that I've looked hard, haha. I like that it registers in the miter slot.

Awesome look! Were you able to get enough pressure on the wood strips to not have voids? Great technique cutting those strips evenly on the tablesaw.

AdventuresInDIY there are a few voids but they mostly close up when I assembled.. I put a little wood putty on a couple. I definitely have a lot to learn about steaming )and obviously my setup is lacking ;) thanks!

what was the blue device you used to rip the laminations on the saw?

Jamie Roberts it's a Rockler product for setting specific width on the opposite side of the blade. so you adjust your fence between cuts. It works easier than building your own stop but not necessary.

Love the use of the plastic tube to create a steam tunnel :D That's genius! I'm gonna use that! Also never knew you could glue wood while it's wet :O Definitely learnt a couple things here, thanks Tim! Great video, and great build :D

I was wondering about that too, was that just regular wood glue or did you use a tightbond 3, the water resistant stuff?

regular wood glue. it took a while to dry. I figure because the water AND the glue needed to dry, y'know?

It was directly on the water, but really only the bottom few inches. It got pretty wet!

nice idea... but the screws make it look cheap to me.... i would make the wood clamp into the metal stand invisible... i think it would make it look more elegant

The bolts worked for me . I might have filed them down to the nuts and made sure that the hex flats all had the same orientation.
