This is one of my favorite videos now! I literally LOLed several times. From the makeshift hoodie mask…to you vacuuming yourself…to your analogy using a gang of cats! Just a great video! And…I learned how to severely age a chair. 😁

Just fabulous, Ara. This project is going to be great when it's finished. If you need to cut chunks out in future, try using the technique we use in woodworking to cut out a housing for a housing joint or a 'dado' as some Americans call it, if you're looking for a tutorial. We cut many thin slices in a row next to each other by sawing straight into the wood, then we knock the slices over with a light tap from a hammer & remove them, leaving the hollow housing. In this scale, your pliers or chisel would fit better to break the slices off. We normally clean up the shape of the housing by chiselling out, but if you need to go in deeper, you'd go back in with your *ahem* replacement cutting disc & cut another series of slices inwards & repeat. Good luck! Oh & I can't wait for Addams Family October!!!
@BentleyHouseMinis6 жыл бұрын
Laughing out loud at the "ahem" ;) Thank you for the technique idea. I think I know what you're talking about but I will check it out. My experience in wood working on a scale of 1-10 is a 1. So anything I can learn is great!

Wow! You hit the nail on the decomposing chair!!! So realistic. You can almost smell the mold...lol. I'd like to toss in an idea...why not put one or perhaps a family of racoons, possums or field mice now living in the old coffee shop?? You did good...and the dremel was the tool to age that chair. :-)

I love that the PossumLady is suggesting possums! I do really want to do some sort of wildlife or evidence of wild life. But I am not skilled in creating animals and I don't want to mess up the realism with poorly made animals. I will be thinking about how I want to do that soon!

This is such an awesome chair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I absolutely LOVE it in this project!!!!! That chair seemed like it must have been made of oak and seemed more sturdy than most chairs you can buy today!! And I’m talking for normal sized people!!! Wow it looks amazing!!! And yes cats would have tried to destroy it and mice would have made nests in it! Lol LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!! My favorite project yet. And I’ve had so many! Can’t wait for next month! Thank you for sharing and making this hard trip home just barely less horrible. 😳 I mean I just left my grandson! What did you think that you could make it a great trip home? Well, you did make me smile! Even if it was at my own corny teasing joke. (I do hope you got that I was joking!) Ok I’m off to watch the AFM tour again so I will remember all the details- an impossible task because you have so many hidden gems in there!! Thank you, Ara!! Hugs!!

I destroyed something that was meant to last!! Enjoy the tour videos... you reminded me I still need to do the final tour of the conservatory! Hugs, Ara

How can i age floor tiles flag stones) that's actually textured wall covering? Any tips please?
@BentleyHouseMinis6 жыл бұрын
I typically start by getting a dark paint color (like black or dark brown) into the cracks and crevices in between the stone. Then I will dry brush colors onto the top of the stones until I like the way that they look. The colors depend on the look that you want... looks up example photos helps a lot! Then i finish everything off with watering down some paint and dripping it in random spots on the stones... this give a more weathered and worn look. Hope this helps!

Really enjoyed the destruction of the chair and yes my cats have pretty much done just that! It looks great. Might be nice to take out some stuffing/foam in the seat and where your head would hit on the back of the seat. Kinda cave it in a bit to look sat in worn out. glue stick will work on the inside of fabric without coming through it to hold the shape. I saw a tutorial of a lady building a chair with the lived in look, distressed, with stacked books to fix a broken leg. I couldn't find it but it's something you may like. Oh she used a foam core base for the chair and carved out indentions where the weight of the body lay when seated.

Shoot, if I had known and if I could time travel, I would have sent you one of my chairs to destroy (which, to be honest, look more like your "after" than your "before," but it's a learning process, right? ;)). Putting the chair in was a bold move in terms of story telling, I think. Why is there a fancy chair in a diner? At one point did survivors carrying a chair in their wagon because they were clinging to that last bit of their humanity think they could make this place a home?
