Bentsen Rio Grande Valley State Park - Tropical Birds & Lizards of South Texas, & a 900 yr-old tree!

Bentsen Rio Grande Valley State Park, way down in the southernmost portion of Texas, is a great place to view tropical birds, lizards, and other wildlife not seen anywhere else in the US. Fall and early spring may be the best time to visit, but great viewing opportunities exist year-round in this area.

Also have butterfly migration through the RGV, air fills up with butterfly's moving through the air going south right before winter and coming up during after winter.

I encourage you to visit Santa Ana NWR and hike around the Willow Lakes loop to the lookout tower and swinging bridge. I also recommend visiting the Sabal Palm Sanctuary to see a native Texas palm tree forest. No camping but amazing trails.
