Laguna Atascosa is one of the premiere locations for viewing tropical birds and other wildlife in South Texas. In fact, Texas is the only state in the US where some of these species exist.

Thanks for the video I’d never seen a chachalaca before, they are actually considered a game animal

I didn’t even know this place existed. What a magical place with the beautiful birds. I would be too much of a coward to visit alligator pond, though. 😆Thanks for the tour!

Nice video. The first time I saw a Green Jay was in Laredo I believe it was in the 1970’s. I did not recognize the distinct looking bird. I rushed for my bird book and I found it. I did not see another till recently where they regularly appear in my front yard.

Thanks for showing off the wonders of the Valley. Hope you ate some Mexican food while you were down here. It’s the best in the world.

The first time I stumbled across a Green Jay on the internet, I couldn't believe they were found in the US ! My Google search led me to Atascosa and South Padre Island. A couple days later I was on a 2000 mile road Trip to South Texas. I ended up getting fantastic photos of Green Jays, Cardinals, Warblers, Buntings, Tanagers, Orioles, and so much more ! Absolutely the birding trip of a lifetime 🙂 I so want to do it again. But next time I'm going to include Southeast Arizona 👍

Interesting location. Looks like the alligator pond has pretty much died up. Thank you for sharing beautiful places of Texas. I remember the first time I saw and heard a group of green Jay, I thought what are they parrots?

Next year I need to get to Texas to explore the southern part of it and find tropical birds and wildlife. Tropical birds like Green Jays are on my target list. I would have my bike with me to explore the area like you did. Thanks for showing around. 👍🙂

I encourage you to go to Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge and the Sabal Palm Sanctuary first. They are my favorites down there. I have videos on both places.

Very cool. The birds don't feel like "Texas" birds. Feels more exotic. Thanks for sharing.

I haven't seen any robins or mockingbirds east texas here over 2 yrs now and I want to know why because I care.

Fire ants and feral cats are wiping out all the birds. Used to blanket the trees with cardinals, robin's and mockingbird's here in central Texas. Robin's flew in this year about couple weeks ago. On another note,8 river otters showed up in the creek,a first.

June 2024- the refuge seems to be mismanaged. Signage on the trails unreadable and some trail identifiers are non existent. Map is terribly made.

I really enjoy your videos and look forward to each new one being posted. I have seen most of your videos but not all so I don't know if you have done any that are similar to what I am about to ask. Have you done any about places that just don't exist anymore? I'm specifically thinking of the small towns that sprang up around sawmills in southeast Texas and then slowly disappeared after the mills closed. Any plans to do any of those type videos?

I did one of these fairly recently. It was more of a hiking video with a bit of history.
