I'm one of the "not my style" types when it comes to BENU, but I absolutely LOVE that they exist. It wasn't what the fp community up to that point wanted because ... no one had reached out to them before. They expanded the community by bringing in a whole new group of people who thought that fp's were only for James Bond villains and the dudes in Mad Men.

I discovered fountain pens a year and a half ago, and what attracted me to fountain pens was that you could play around with a huge variety of inks in a great range of colors. And then I found out about Benu pens, and I thought: " How do these people know me so well?" Colorful, sparkly pens, and some of them glow in the dark!! I know they are not for everyone, but to me, they are like beautiful gems, sometimes I write with them, and sometimes I just look at them and marvel at how the light hits them just so and all that sparkle looks like a far away galaxy.

Drew was spot on with “it’s only a matter of time.” This is exactly what happened to me. I told myself I would never get a Benu, it’s too loud, it’s too tacky, it’s too blingy. Then the Earl Grey came out… just ordered my second one and it’s getting delivered in 2 days. That’s right, it’s back in stock folks, get it before it sells out yet again 😅

I was initially put off by Benu because of their over-the-top designs. That is until I came across one that clicked with me; the Dragon’s Blood Talisman. The slick black contrasted by the stark red and green shimmer really stuck me as beautiful. I saw it on sale, bought, and adore it. The build quality is incredible, as is the nib. I really can’t wait to dive into more of their pens.

I almost got that same one when they released the Euphoria Christmas Twinkle. I'm not a huge Christmas person anymore, but I fell in love. Glad the Dragons Blood brings you joy. It's a gorgeous pen.

Same here. Most of them just didn't speak to me (which is fine, not everything in the world needs to be tailored to me). The Euphoria Bourbon was my moment. The colors, the overwhelming audacity of shoving all that sparkle into it just grabbed me. Plus, I live in the center of the bourbon world in Kentucky, and I'm a sucker for a good name. Since then there have been a few others I've added to my collection. But the Bourbon is the one that comes out when I have an in-person meeting and I want an immediate icebreaker and to make an impression. It's also a broad, and loading it up with a nice, bold shimmer ink really grabs people's attention and shows of the frankly silly extreme that you can go to with pens.

Wow, Drew, you look so HAPPY in this video! I got my first Benu just after learning they were leaving Russia for less obnoxious pastures. My daughter, the Most Precious Object in the Universe, was born in Russia, and I got the pen as a reminder. Then I got another....Now I have a handful of them, all different, all such fun, and good writers as well. I don't need the flash, glitter, sparkles, but I love all my Benus.

Great video! When BENU first came out, I, too, thought the pens were ridiculous. But eventually, (6 years later), I bought a Euphoria, and then a Talisman. And now I have at least 10 BENU pens. I love them. they are fun and write as well as any high end pen that I own. The Schmidt broad nibs are fabulous. Thanks for the spotlight.

Love this video, glad to see you guys spotlighting a particular manufacturer like you mentioned in the Pencast! I bought a Euphoria and had nib issues, dealt with the retailer and got a new one. Definitely worth the wait, the Schmidt nib is a nice wet writer! Another thing I love is the chunky and very chamfered threads on the grip section, it doesn’t bother me at all gripping up there!

Benu! Fast becoming my all time favorite pens. I love the Schmidt nibs more than most nibs I’ve tried. Now that I know where their name comes from I’m even more in love. I know the word benu from my lifelong obsession with all things ancient Egypt and I have no excuse for not having gone to their website to learn their history before this so I could have know they chose the name intentionally. I got my first BENU this year and I’m mostly impressed by their wonderful nibs and exceptional customer service. Salvina has been amazing with helping me, answering questions, and replacing a pen. Oh and their nibs are buttery smooth. While I’m not a huge fan of the glitter but I love the two pens that I have which are the Confetti Milkshake, and the Neapolitan.

Well, I was not a fan of these pens, and never thought I would own one. Then someone gave me a Love Story for Christmas. Funny enough, everyone else who knows me assumed I bought it and didn't understand why I would NOT have chosen it. They were right; I was wrong. Hi Drew! I am also a "not my style person", but I HAVE been tempted! The Neopolitan pen might have been my first, had it not been for the silver glitter. I wish they had used the plastic "sprinkles" instead, which you might just see on tasty Neopolitan ice cream! An interesting series of pens might be made that represent soda pop! I mean, who wouldn't want a root beer pen, or and orange soda pen! If the resin could be developed where it could show bubbles in it, but that don't come to the surface. That would be COOL! You could have a "foamy" looking resin on the cap. Anyway, thanks for the cool video, will for sure check out their website.

Loved this video. I myself was a self confessed fountain pen snob! But I bought the briolette magenta frost and I fell hard in love! Now I’m the owner to two briolettes, and two talismans- one which you recommend recently the lily of the Incas! My next purchase projects are one each of the grand septre and the euphoria. I feel like BENU should change their tag line to, “Shh, shh…we haven’t made your pen,…yet” Case in point: Things I don’t like in pens are brown, translucent, and lots of audacious glitter. BENU I purchased- Euphoria Earl Grey and I absolutely love it. Anyone who knows me and sees me writing with are surprised I own it. But once I tell the story and they write with it, they get it. I will say the reviews of the writing experience online for the Euphoria tipped me into purchasing.

I liked the Benu pens from the first time I saw them online. When I decided to buy one I automatically steered towards the more subtle models (being a man with a beard). But just before pulling the trigger I though "you know what? I'm getting a Benu, so I might as well go all out" and went for the Bora Bora. Zero regrets.
