I think the crazy thing is that the base instrument itself doesn't sound very voice-like at all, but the sheer breadth of the chords and 'imperfect' feel the 31 tone causes makes it sound like a strange sort of choir anyways.
@benyamind19 күн бұрын
Especially the 'diesis scream' has a voice-like quality to it. It's when you cluster two small steps in 31-EDO.
@MrZetaacede16 күн бұрын
the basic for choir imo is the resonance that it leaves while you can cover more of the sound spectrum

This is probably the best example I've ever heard of showcasing the new colors and emotional capabilities of 31-tet as opposed to 12. The color and tension in this progression just....gives me such chills with each rise and fall. Each resolution. Pure is the best word I could use to describe the sound. Could easily imagine this in a film score.
@benyamind6 ай бұрын
I appreciate it. I'm glad it captures a cinematic effect. For me making music is a very visual process too. Making tracks often feels like tuning into different worlds. So yeah, it definitely can result into filmscore-esque soundscapes.

for me without aknowledging what really is the concept of temperature in music progression chords (i mean besides the easier intuitive fl studio or ableton version of how to do the things with synths and piano rolls and what sounds good and what is meh), i could grasp refusing to searching the matemagics behind the chord that, that i found this pecualiarly good for meditating or so, it is tension but also it is releasing, its like alternating between high and low breaths (in yoga we manage 3 tipes of main breaths) so it helps with the passage with one to the other, the low lowers the hearth bpm and the other raises, mumbling aside this sound great and give me hopes to spam more chords than what i used to (atm im managing just 3 but i as stated by all means are not aknowledging the )

Sound like an old sci-fi movie. This also makes me think of those "scale of the universe" videos where you progressively zoom out from the size of an atom to the entire observable universe. If each measure means a tenfold increase of scale, the duration perfectly matches one required for zooming from a proton until the universe starts to appear uniform at largest scales (then we can get where we started from, a uniform cloud of matter). The piece can induce awe, surprise and existential dread.

When I was 4 poker face struck fear into my heart cause I was fairly new to music and hearing a medium I’d never heard before. Somehow this is giving me the same feeling 13 years later, but with uneasy excitement added as a bonus. Absolutely incredible work here :D Little bit of a rant here: After a lot of pondering, I reckon we as westerners are trying our best to copy/paste 12 tone ideas that have been incredibly well developed over ages, but I think this kind of experimentation is the route we should be going down. Just sitting with this new tuning, expressing and innovating, and seeing where stuff goes :0 I wonder if someday we’ll all adjust to different tunings between songs like we do with different genres! And then some time decades or centuries from now we’ll have “the rules” for all kinds of tunings

I’m a professional musician and Harmony professor and was born with what is commonly called perfect pitch, the ability to memorize and name pitches made familiar to me at an early age. This is a neuro-divergent trait common in maybe 5% of humans. Since I grew up in a 12-tet culture, micro-tonality bends my brain in ways you can’t imagine . This composition/recording is gorgeous and completely twists me, I have such a difficulty processing it. Wow!
@benyamind18 күн бұрын
I can imagine that this will sound wild to someone with perfect pitch! I got an ok-ish relative pitch but even then, for this type of stuff I generally let go of the notion of pitch and perceive it more as overall tone and harmony.

What helps me a lot in the creative process is trying to let go of any theoretical notion other than 'these are interesting intervals, let's have some fun!'. Sometimes our intellect gets in the way; our childlike curiousity is fearless in mastery of the elements. In a holistic sense music is rather simple; it are just a bunch of sounds that we give meaning by playing with them. So I focus on the play. Outside of the creative process I allow analysis, theory and more to enter my mind.
