With the Momentum 3 I usually have it on bass boost for gaming and movies. Having ANC on makes the bass hit harder, and it's better for TV and gaming. But honestly for music...I think I like how they sound when they're turned off and used wired. The sound is flatter, the bass doesn't dominate the other frequencies, and sounds more balanced. Can hear more details as well. Try them out when they're wired and turned off (hold the pause button for about 5 seconds), you might actually like it. Results may vary, as I purchased a silver dragon cable for them.

Great review! Two considerations: 1) Perhaps a leather ear cushion tend to sweat less than a plastic one. The Sony's are good enough for most people but they make you sweat your skin quickly, feeling the skin temperature rise quickly as well. 2) Perhaps the better ANC's should be delivered with an option 'click-on' mice boom, for much better voice quality when having a phone conversation, due to placing such a mice real close to the mouth.

You can do lots of computational tomfoolery to get excellent sound out of the 4 mics already in the headphones, but why you get trash audio on nearly all of these bluetooth headsets is because of bluetooth itself. It doesn't have enough bandwidth for good audio. Apple gets around this by using their custom chips in their headphones with their custom chips in their smartphones to work around it, but for the rest of the industry, the bluetooth SIG has dropped the ball massively hard.

This review has convinced me to order the H95s. I was fully expecting the XM4 to win on ANC but was leaning toward getting the h95's anyway for the sound and build quality. To see them win out in ANC too makes them seem like I'll be happy with the extra spend. The one niggle that would have been in the back of my mind over their price tag is now alleviated.

In some reviews they used to be telling that the sound is a little bit different with anc enabled (talking about h95). Its been 2 weeks since You posted it. Is there a chance You already have them and can confirm? I use xm3 now and want to buy h95 too
@welshmouse3 жыл бұрын
@@BrushTE Yep, I've had them for about a week now. The sound does change a little bit with ANC, but it's hard to describe. The ANC has a strange 'tightness' to it that I haven't heard before, and so that's the most obvious shift. The actual difference this makes to the sound is hard to pin down, and for the most part I'd say it is very minimal. I think I would probably describe as a slight reduction in bass presence and extension. Honestly though, that's not really a bad thing because these headphones probably have the most present and tightly controlled bass I've really heard in a headphone before. I'm normally not a basshead. I hate that most headphones are tuned for extreme bass, and i'm accustomed to reducing the lows via EQ on most new headphones. I've come to associate high bass with muddiness, so when I first put on the h95's my first feeling was 'that's a lot of bass, I need to reduce that'. But after a decent amount of time playing with the EQ, I realizes the bass, while very pwoerful, was not interfering with the rest of the music at all. It was exceptionally clear, and somehow was as punchy as my XM4's on default tuning but with NONE of the fuzziness that creeps into the mids. So i've ended up keeping it to default tuning, with more bass than I'd usually have, but loving it, and so even with ANC on and that slight pulling in of the low end, they still sound fantastic. The only minor negative i'd ascribe to these cans that I haven't really heard mentioned anywhere is that they are VERY closed headphones. Instrument separation is pretty good due to the fantastic clarity and control, but stereo separation is nearly non-existent. I think more than any other headphones I've used, every aspect of the music feels completely enclosed in your head, and almost right in your face. I listen mostly to metal so this isn't really a big deal for me, but if you're a classical fan I could see it being a bit claustrophobic. Overall though, these are absolutely the most energetic and fun Bluetooth headphones I've owned. Clarity is unreal given it's wireless.

Just picked these up a couple days ago and can easily say they’re the best closed-back headphones I’ve ever owned. You won’t get the same experience as open-back headphones, but the ones that I’ve used severely diminish the quality of the bass (plus they’re completely un-portable) so I think closed-back ANC headphones is still my preferred way to listen to music, and as far as these go they’re incredible. Yes, they cost a shit ton of money but honestly, the sound signature is so damn near perfect, and the build quality/design so beautiful, that I don’t think I can return them. Can also confirm ANC changes sound a bit but honestly, it’s hardly noticeable, almost infinitesimal.

I went with the Bose 700 but can see the whole touch panels of the Sony or H95 would be much more natural and intuitive compared to the Bose 700 which only has half an earcup to swipe, which is more fiddly. Likewise the physical ring dials on the H95 and I think the Surface headphones look extremely practical and user friendly. Please include a segment talking and demonstrating these points. Thanks so much for the well considered and patient video. You are the first to really test them and compare against the best of the rest. I cannot but agree with your assessment. Can you tell I have those? haha. I think they are the best bluetooth headphones I have ever heard and I have heard many. The only ones that come really close are the Momentum 2. No other has that all round sound that is so good. Movies are great on them. I hope I get the chance to test the H95 but will stick with the M3 with all the battery hassle they come with. This is the best headphone comparison that I’ve seen on KZbin! Excellent, I immediately subscribed!! It’s interesting that BEOPLAY and Sennheiser use real leather when a large segment of the population is either vegetarian or vegan, which means they would not buy headphones with real leather ... which means they have eliminated a large segment of the buying public unless they also offer a non-leather version of their headphones. Also interesting that you mentioned the Bose and Sony’s faux-leather (synthetic) was softer than real leather, so this is proof that real leather is not necessary to produce quality headphones. I am also super glad to see that Apple’s new AirPods Pro are not made with leather and I look forward to you doing a comprehensive sound review.

I have the Plantronics Backbeat Pro, Aiwa Arc-1, Aiwa Arc-1 ANC, XTZ Divine, as well as some cheaper sets, and have auditioned many, many others. As for soundstage, they've all been comparable. The Momentum 3's sound like they might fit the bill, but that 18 hour battery life could be a deal breaker. So, in your extensive research, have there been some other headphones that really impressed you with their soundstage?
@ARC873 жыл бұрын
Sennheiser is well-known for its accurate midrange and non-fatiguing treble. Yet, their soundstage is usually not wide/open; the Momentum 3s, which I own, follow the same trend with an apparently recessed midrange due to a boosted bass. Next to Sony, though, their soundstage is still wider and their bass better defined (more articulate). B&O usually has a brighter sound (boosted treble) with a wider soundstage, at least based on my H6 (2nd Gen) and H8i; I've never heard the HX or H95.

Several reviews mentioned the impressive soundstage of the B&W's, so I was a little disappointed that they were so similar to the Plantronics. I would say that the 1000XM4 and Momentum 3's are pretty evenly matched when it comes to their bass impact, but the quality of the Momentum's bass is much better...as are its highs and mids. The Sony's bass is a bit slow...kinda loose and flabby. In comparison, the Sennheiser's bass is tight, fairly quick, and more detailed.

Where would you say the pxc 550 ii fit on this list?
@marsenark3 жыл бұрын
Maybe you got around to watching his other reviews and pieced it all together, but for anyone else with the same question, I'd say pxc 550-iis better than all with respect to comfort (lightweight, breathable), anc worse than bose nc700, but better than M3, calls good similar to nc700, battery life similar to nc700, transparency mode doesn't allow music playing at same time, and he's not a fan of microusb due to having to have extra wire, but from my personal experience, bigger issue is durability. You've got a part that is pretty much 100% guaranteed to let you down in the long run, arguably would be long enough for most people, but I'd be surprised if it lasted more than 3 or 4 years of once or twice a week charging. And lol, most important thing sound quality. He'd say M3s best, pxc-550ii just as detailed, just not as much bass, more neutral with a more restricted eq. Maybe a similar level to XM4? Better if you don't need heavier bass, worse if you do?

Is that different between the WH-1000XM3 and XM4? I specifically chose the XM3 because I couldn't stand the cabin pressure on the Bose. I felt a lot of pressure when I tried the Bose and hardly any with the Sony XM3.

One thing you didn't mention re the B&O case: being metal, every airport scanner will signal alert and your bag will be checked every time - what with that and the cost, people won't be travelling with these. A1 review mate 👍

I mean. Like with any electronic device you are required to take it out of your bag before going through scanners. Same as your laptop/phone/many metal devices you may own.

B&O's equalizer is garbage. I have the H9i and was really dissapointed until i got an 11 band equalizer for my previous phone. Which brings out what they can really do. New phone has its own 11 band eq in its stock music app. Making them outstanding. I'm definitely getting the H95 soon.

Sound & Build Quality = Sennheiser / B&O ANC & Comfort = Sony / Bose Battery Life = Sony / B&O If the B&O would be priced like the Momentum 3 (€400), it would easily come on top. Yet, for €800 its ANC should not affect its sound quality, its comfort should be at least as good as the Sony and B&O should give a USB-C to USB-C cable (like Sennheiser does).
