Where do heat pipes come from? What are they made of and why do we need them? The real production process of these tremendously important parts is the topic of this first part of our behind-the-scenes video: The production of be quiet! CPU coolers.

Could you get one of your engineers do a tutorial on bending heat pipes? I cannot find any tutorials online and that might draw attention to your coolers.

How do you recover the copper powder? It seems kind of strange that you don't have a hopper that automatically fills the tubes.

Nice! I always wondered how CPU coolers are made. Can the liquid evaporate in time?
@bequietofficial
@bequietofficial 7 жыл бұрын
Since the heatpipe is totally hermetical closed and the liquid runs in a vacuum surrounding, it is not possible that the liquid can evaporate. Water Cooling is of course a different topic.
@tahwnikcufos
@tahwnikcufos 2 жыл бұрын
Better reply: Evaporation and Condensation is how the heat pipes works. However the heat pipe is sealed, preventing the contents from escaping, as it changes phase from liquid to vapor. As the vapor travels down the center back to the cold end, it condenses back to liquid form, to be sucked up by the "wick" for it's journey back to the hot end of the heat pipe, then the process starts all over again.

I have a question. How efficient are vapour chamber cooling as opposed to just copper heat pipes?
@ginofoogle6944
@ginofoogle6944 3 жыл бұрын
they both work on the same principle.. the only thing you should consider is the surface area where the aluminum fins come in contact with the vapor chamber and heat pipes..

I stumbled upon this video, and couldn't help but make a comment about the part in the video at 1:40. At first glans it looks like the powder isn't distributed evenly, so I decided to look closer and counted that there are 6-9 pipes that clearly aren't evenly centered. That's a 33-50% quality control issue. Does it not matter if there are sides of the piping that don't have the powder composition? To me it seems like that would be negatively impactful for cooling; but I'm no engineer. Thanks for reading. :)
@jeffwells641
@jeffwells641 3 ай бұрын
I don't think it significantly affects the performance, provided the heat pipe is well embedded into the heatsink and has a good thermal bridge. The volume of the hole doesn't change, so the vapor moves from one of the tube to the other the same whether it's perfectly centered or not. The volume of the wick doesn't change, so it should be able to move the liquid back the other way just fine as well. A more even distribution probably makes one side of the heat pipe slightly better at absorbing or releasing heat, but if the pipe is properly embedded in the heatsink that evens out (since you want thermal contact on all sides if possible anyway).

I wonder, how do they avoid the water getting sucked out also when removing the air?
@TDDoooOOOooo
@TDDoooOOOooo 4 жыл бұрын
Small amount of working fluid evaporates, but it is pre-calculated and pretty much constant, so it doesn't effect performance.
@Vegemeister1
@Vegemeister1 3 жыл бұрын
Some does, and it's a good thing too. The steam helps blow the last of the air out of the pipe, and even a tiny amount of non-condensable gas remaining inside would greatly reduce the performance.

2ml per pipe? So... they are pretty empty in my opinion.
@bequietofficial
@bequietofficial 7 жыл бұрын
Not really, if you keep in mind that most of that cooling liquid is steam, that transfer the heat in an unbelievable speed. Then it cools down, becoming liquid again, heats up to steam ... many, many, many times in just a short time. That's why you need only 2ml per pipe.

Anyway great video. I didn't know that there is copper powder inside. At 1:42 we see that powder is not evenly distributed. Some pipes have no powder near the pipe edge, while in others powder is perfectly centered. Does it matter?
@bequietofficial
@bequietofficial 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, some structures are not perfectly centered. But that doesn't matter, because the cooling liquid have the same amount of micro-capillaries in each heatpipe to run back to the heat source.

If you're judging it by that language on the panel, that's traditional Chinese, which is only used in two places in the world: Taiwan & Hong Kong. So it's most likely Taiwan, or Taiwanese exported machines.
