We have a great little book giving much more information. It can be sent around the world and purchased directly here: www.nomads.org/Books.html. Special offer if you buy more than one!
Two different types of tent, the 'Persian' tent, a simple drape of a large sheet of cloth, and the 'Arabic' tent, more sophisticated with bands of densely woven wool to hold the fabric taught. This allowed larger tents to be made with far less wood in the poles, relying for its strength on a pair of centre poles whose angles can be adjusted to raise and lower the height of the tent.
We also look at two looms, the horizontal loom, laid out on the floor of the desert and painstakingly slow to weave on. It takes around six months to weave enough fabric to make a tent, and the vertical loom. This is not a 'backstrap' loom and every line has to be picked apart by hand.

I realize it's primarily about architecture, BUT it would be wonderful to see xtra minutes of spinning, weaving, cooking etc . It's amazing in this world that there are still people living the very old culture. We need them and we need to learn what they know. They need us to stop taking their nomadic lives away.

I had known that the tents were made of goat and camel hair, but the way they gathered it, cut in tufts from the living animals, was new to me. The goats and camels are so valuable, it makes sense that they would do so in as minimally invasive way as possible. Their tents are absolutely stunning.

I'm also like this. I suffer from hyperacusis so unnecessary sounds have a bad effect on me. Even music is complicated, so when I want t hear some music, I have to make sure I'm not doing anything else and only listen to the music, or it will become a troublesome noise. I very often am forced to lower the volume or completely mute a video when the music gets in the way. Anyway, this is a pretty good video and it took care of some questions I had. I'm am amateur writer and worldbuilder, taking my first steps into it and one of my main cultures dwells lives at a desert and there are several tribes living in tents. So I thank OP for this video, it was entertaining and very useful to me.

3:59 Oh Camel. You are so GOOD. The dark colors of the fabrics of the tents of desert dwelling peoples helps keep these tents' interiors cool. This seems counter-intuitive until understood along with the readily open-ended designs of most of these tents. The dark, heavy fabric absorbs infrared radiation, and then re-radiates heat upward into the breeze. Additionally, this fabric effectively blocks the passage of light and heat into the living space below, creating dense and effective shading of the ground surface, allowing it to cool down. As the tents can be left open at both ends, a wind tunnel effect is created, encouraging additional cooling within the living space. The end result is a sort of "geo-mimicry", the tent becoming like a kind of manmade rock overhang--- though admittedly not quite as effective, still an excellent substitute. And rock overhangs usually only maintain effectiveness for part of the day.

In Islamic society hospitality is paramount although the weary travellers while fed and sheltered should only stay for two days. What concerns me is that this is a depiction of Biblical times and that the people will base their lives on antiquity and all the horrors that brings like FGM. Otherwise I am sure they are very nice , but with such archaic lives they could be easily influenced by religious bigots.
