Many many thanks Jon! Short story- a family friend who is a competitive clays shooter needed to store his shotguns away from his home - I never did ask why (plausible deniability 😉) but if locking them up in my safe made a situation safer I was glad to be of help. That’s when it started … Now, I am a loyal and dedicated husband, but there’s very little a man can do to resist when left all alone with a sexy Italian lady. She was a 686 silver pigeon Vittoria, and I was smitten! Lol. Thats when the love affair started! The craftsmanship, the balance. Dare I say… the ease of which she was mounted was like nothing I experienced before! That’s when I made a promise to myself that one day I would have a Beretta of my own! Fast forward to yesterday afternoon. After 6 days, My NICS check cleared the NJSP and my 1301 tactical was all ready to come home with me from the FFL. Now she sits in that safe-the same spot as that silver pigeon - patiently waiting the first trip to the range! Unfortunately work and the US holiday weekend make getting to the range near impossible for the near future. That’s where you come in. Your videos really help scratch that itch until rangeday comes. I’ve been devouring any and all 1301 content on KZbin and let me tell ya, yours it at the top of the list! Really well done. Beyond helpful and informative. Something I would expect Beretta would produce for themselves! So thank you kindly. You have a new sub!

Wow 🤩 thank you for sharing your story! I mean, who wouldn’t fall in love with a sexy Italian beretta 😍 I’m sure your 1301 won’t disappoint you. It’s a dream to shoot and being gas fed it soaks up the felt recoil so you can have a fun day shooting without having a sore shoulder afterwards 😎 Recently I feel I haven’t spent much time behind my shotgun, but it’s had a few outings to the local clay pigeon shooting ground 😏 Glad you are enjoying the videos and thanks for the sub 👍👍

Jon, for many years I've lusted over the TX4, then the 1301 (I'm a PX4/CX4 kinda guy), but just couldn't quite pull the trigger, though the temptation was strong. Then came SHOT Show 2023 and the announcement of the A300 Ultima Patrol and I was totally smitten! I started the search and 9 days ago became the proud owner of the Patrol in gray (tiger stripe just didn't do it for me). I've cleaned it twice already and am familiar with the various functions of the gun, but unloading live shells was a mystery. The manual, in true Beretta style, was totally misleading and even wrong! Your video has cleared the air and I'm now able to safely unload the magazine without issue. THANKS for your most invaluable help! You've earned a new follower, even though the 1301 hasn't entered my safe. 😁
@JonCresswellUk Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the story and feedback! Luckily most of the new Beretta semi auto shotguns use the same receiver and blink system (or similar), so the functionality is comparable. I think I’d have gone for tiger stripe if they had it when I went to the store 🤤. The A300 ultima patrol looks great 👍 and I hope you have fun shooting it. Glad the video helped with the unloading of the magazine, as it’s not very straightforward. Thanks for subscribing! I really appreciate it. That reminds me that I need to get behind my shotgun again and take out some steels 😎

Thanks for the tips - I never would have guessed to pull up on the bolt release button to unload. I just picked up my new Comp Pro 21" Barrel (no extension tube here in the US, and I had to remove the restrictor rod just to make it a 4+1). I haven't fired it yet, but I already love it.

Yes it’s a bit odd how you have to pull on the bolt release, but most of the time I empty it into targets 😉 It’s a great shotgun! The gas system and dampening stock make it something you can shoot all day and not get a sore shoulder 👍

This is my first semi-auto shotgun and my first Beretta, I can only echo what some others have already said: The Beretta manual is not very helpful while your videos are clear and extremely well done. Hi Jon, just a little extra info...to ghost load is to add an extra round to your load out. The fastest way you do that and put one in the chamber with the newer 1301 comp is you load the tube .... rack one into the chamber then load another in the tube....after that take another round and pull back a little on the bolt then push that round down onto the lifter while pressing the latch in to allow the lifter to move down....then place another round in the chamber.
@JonCresswellUk3 жыл бұрын
Ah nice 👍 thanks 😊. Always good to have an extra shot if you can squeeze one in 😃
@maximusmock3 жыл бұрын
I have found you can ghost load with one in the chamber. Is this safe?
@JonCresswellUk3 жыл бұрын
@@maximusmock it’s as safe as a loaded shotgun could be…always have the safety applied and keep pointing in a safe direction. I wouldn’t leave one in the chamber myself. Ghost loading an extra cartridge puts one in the chamber whilst you load another onto the lifter. I know this can be done, but it is a bit awkward to do and I know on some shotguns it may cause the second cartridge to jam. There may be questions about legality if you are in the uk and only have a shotgun licence, as the licence limits you to 2 in the mag and one in the chamber. There may also be some hunting conditions in the US where this is also either illegal or frowned upon. We can’t use shotguns for home defence in the uk, however, if your country allows it I would just get a mag extension instead of ghost loading. My reason is that the gun is not set up to operate with an extra cartridge on the lifter and you may cause a stoppage when you need it the most. Hope that helps

@@FreedomsLife1776 we’re allowed semi auto shotguns. You can legally have a 3 shot semi auto on a SGC (shotgun certificate), but if you want a larger mag capacity like the beretta for comps then they have to go on our FAC (firearms certificate). What are choke’s for ? Could you do a video on that subject please
@JonCresswellUk Жыл бұрын
Yes, I'll do a video on this - good idea. Shotgun chokes are used to control the spread of shot pellets as they leave the barrel. They come in various types, such as cylinder, improved cylinder, modified, and full choke, each affecting the shot pattern differently. Chokes allow shooters to adapt to different shooting scenarios, from close-range targets to those at a distance.

Jon, can you explain the cycle of operation when the gun runs dry? What causes the bolt to be held open on last round, and equally what allows the bolt to continue to cycle when there are rounds in the magazine without it being held back between rounds?

Why is my bolt release button so hard to push? @8:12

It shouldn’t be…mines like a hair trigger! Maybe strip the shotgun, and use some spray oil to clean the mechanism and button, there maybe some grit/debris in it.

I must be missing something; why don't we flag-in at 10:24? I'm not sure I follow why we have to fire off the action again after we proved clear. I reckon it's a double-safety-good-habit?
@JonCresswellUk2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it’s a good safety habit to get into. I always prove the gun clear then flag, that way anyone else knows the state of the gun (well, at least that there is nothing in the chamber).

Hi Jon, i have the problem that while ghost loading the loading ramp sometimes don't hold the up position. When i load a cartridge sometimes i hit a little bit the ramp mechanism and the ramp slides down. Then one cartridge is lifted in the chamber and it is not possible to load more rounds in the tube... Is there a trick / tip how i can manage this?

hi, thks for the clear explanations, a stupid question, when aiming you have both eyes opened and you always try to allign both sights or use just the front (green) one for fast shoots?!? thks
@JonCresswellUk3 жыл бұрын
Not a stupid question at all 😊, I shoot with both eyes open, look over the top of the barrel and use the fore sight (green dot) for most targets. If it’s a long shot I will use the mid bead too, but generally I go off the front sight and shoot instinctively.
@lucianomicale10993 жыл бұрын
when using the mid sight for long shots do you close one eye(last question i promise)?!?
@JonCresswellUk3 жыл бұрын
@@lucianomicale1099 not normally no. I am right eye dominant so it seems to work ok. Everyone has their own techniques so if you close one eye that’s not wrong at all. I just prefer to shoot both eyes open so you have better peripheral vision. Don’t worry about asking questions ☺️ it’s good to chat

Why dry fire after unloading before racking the action again?
@JonCresswellUk2 жыл бұрын
When did I do that? Was it part of clearing the gun?
@JoernR2 жыл бұрын
@@JonCresswellUk - 10:45, part of clearing/unloading/preparing for transport or storage. You dry fire the gun for uncocking, then you cock it again. :) Did I overlook anything? I don't own a semi-auto, yet, so I don't wish to go out on the limb too far. I am presently trying to decide between a Beretta 1301 and Mossberg's 940 JM Pro /Tactical, which turned out to be quite difficult: I like the regular 1301 and JM Pro , but already got a shotgun with a long barrel - and I just cannot stand the looks of the tactical 1301. :D

Hi! The new 1301 comp pro that I gave to my son for his birthday, has the curious habit, with 35 grams, of expelling one every two or three shots downwards. So, after the session, you have to go and look for the non-fired cartridges on the ground ... For this reason we are sending the 1301 comp pro to Beretta to have it checked. Do you have an idea why? It has a 10 round magazine and a 50 barrel
@JonCresswellUk3 жыл бұрын
Wow 😮 not sure that’s right! I haven’t had that happen to me. Sounds like the loading gate is not working correctly or there’s an issue with the cartridge latch that holds the cartridges in the mag 🤔 Definitely send it to beretta to get it checked out. I hope they fix the issue for you, don’t let this put you off the shotgun, it’s a great bit of kit normally.

Jon, rest assured, my son loves his birthday present! 👍💪... and then, he must prove to me that he is better in everything than my Derya MK 12 ipsc, that in the challenge we made on 100 shots with mixed ammunition 28 and 35, my “KTM” (😁) never jammed, while his Beretta ... cheated😜
