Think I figured out what you guys are talking about. On the main toolbar, where it shows what lighting mode you are in, you can go to the material preview/rendered mode icon and checkmark the following options: "Scene Lights" and "Scene World". Messing with these is pretty important when trying to get materials/shaders right for a render. If they are unchecked it just uses the default Blender lighting on everything. If you check those, then it basically removes all the fake background lighting and you get only light from your own stuff. That messed me up once when doing a water shader. Thought it looked perfect then realized it was using the fake Blender default lighting and not the actual HDRI and had to tweak it.

Thanks! I made an overall software comparison in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYS1n2yOgrF-pas Short answer: I almost never use nurbs anymore as a creative designer. I don't know how he does it, but just after he has done it he show where you can select "active element". So I go to the top menu just one to the right of "Global" and select "active element". Then I select all notes, then using shift I unselect and select one note from the top row. The S for scale and (X,Y,Z) to select the direction. When you are in edit mode, you can use the scale tool from the toolbar on the left, that will show you the origine of the scale function it can be a helpful tool to see what is happening. But selecting "active element" at the top (Transform Pivot Point) is the main thing.

Thank you for showing this interesting approach to doing this. I can't really see the advantage though over doing it without that additional sphere as it doesn't seem to make things easier or faster or more controllable, for that matter. A shadow catcher is easy and fast enough to create, and the environment texture, like in your video, often needs to be scaled anyway. It seems to require just as much, if not more, fiddling around to get it to look right. The different texture color will, in many cases, be an issue. Unfortunately you're not showing how to fix that. If you need to rotate the background, it would be helpful to be able to link that extra sphere to the background HDRI or vice versa in order to avoid additional work.
@BerkKaplanDesigner2 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot for your comment! I think the biggest advantage is for animations. Without the mesh environment, only with shadow catcher, animation will not work. But directly after this tutorial I did this animation: kzbin.infoUVBUEFldNSY?feature=share and with basic rotations/camera movements it looks really good in my opinion. About the different texture color part: solution is using a wide gradient mask betweek 2 materials so it will not be that sharp. But in this tutorial I didn't want to go so complicated, keeping it more beginner/intermediate level is helpful to more people. If there will be requests, I can do advanced version as well. Cheers! :)
@CGcelestial2 жыл бұрын
also just a shadow catcher won't work. using just a shadow catcher with an hdri isn't enough as cycles gives weird illuminations due to the transparent mesh of the shadow catcher. that's also why Berk probably added in the extra sphere, and for animation like he said.

Somehow, the object reflection results are totally different between the HDRI world and the sphere. Also , when you go from flat to sphere, you get a completely different result. (All on the ground) Unless this problem can be solved, this method cannot be used universally. Thank you.
