this is exactly what i needed. working on the 5th exercise right now, and it’s a fun challenge, particularly where you have to switch from 16ths back to triplets cleanly. thanks a lot for sharing your exercises, jharis! btw, you’re hella fast bro lol

Great video! Do you use the slide technique for fast doubles or just 2 ankle hits with 1 knee drop (same as larnell lewis technique)? If you can do another video about foot technique it would awesome 🔥

Maybe I’ll do a video on this but, to me, improving pocket has a lot more to do with playing along to records than a metronome. So I would play along with any music that you think is right in the pocket

I appreciate you showing the learning process as well as the application. when you end up in a situation where you're playing a part of one of the exercises in the real world, do you set a boundary saying "don't go there" for the sections that you tend to slip up on? or do you take the risk? I'm guessing you ended up cleaning that section with the 3lets to 16ths after what was shown in the video recording either way.

@@Xolin11 in the real world I almost always take the risk. I feel that even if I mess up, it’s not the end of the world. Also, I’ve learned how to cover up mistakes over the years 🙏🏿

V nice JY. How do you find playing different kits backline on tour? Do you travel w your own pedal? Adjust tension/settings of the pedal there? Or just train the foot to do it on anything?

Sometimes I slide into the doubles but most times I’m trying to get two ankle strikes for every knee drop. If that makes sense. I haven’t really spent much time on foot technique in general

Awesome exercises with real musical applications......man your execution at high tempos is impressive. A future video regarding foot technique for high tempo doubles would be really useful. What technique (s) are you using once uou start hitting 140 plus?

This exercises are great I cant wait to start incorporating them in my routine, but can you tell me for how much time should you do each of them, and how you plan your resting periodos in between to avoid injury, cause I m 48 and I feel that my body Isnt the same as before, i got to practice safely and inteligently, i cant aford geting injured

@@martinbursztein9354 everything is based on how I’m feeling that day. The exercises that are harder for me probably get more reps than the easier ones. I don’t plan my resting periods, I just take a break whenever I get tired or if something feels weird 🙏🏿

Yo Jharis, I've been following your work and your channel for about a month now. I really hope these videos will be super helpful for me. Do you have any tips for me regarding triple strokes on the single kick (~3 years, self taught)? I can do doubles pretty fast but triples always mess me up and I end up locking up during the 2nd stroke at medium tempos. It just feels like a mental thing since I can do it without thinking sometimes but every other time I try it it just doesn't seem to click.

Growing up, I always used to play along to the song “In The End” by Linkin Park. Playing that kick pattern over and over made my foot faster playing three and four strokes 🙏🏿

There isn’t really an ideal length of time. Once you get the coordination down, just doing it every day for a few minutes while increasing the speed will get the job done

I have a simple question that I hope you will see and find time to answer: How much difference do you find in the pedal type you use? Single/double chain, direct drive, belt? And also, do you have a favorite type of pedal or a favorite specific go-to pedal and for what simple reason. Your time and experience is valuable so thank you for the lesson! 🙏🏿

90% of the time I won’t adjust the pedal that I play on. Over the years I’ve learned ways to be able to play similarly on any pedal 🙏🏿 I don’t think I have a preference when it comes to single/double chain or anything like that
