I’m super excited to share my Rudiment Creativity Volumes 1 and 2 with you all! In these books, I’ve broken down each rudiment and included 10 drum set applications for each one, so you can really start applying them creatively in your playing. I also recorded mp3s for EVERY exercise and application to make practicing even easier. And just for fun, I added a BONUS section called 'Carlito’s Licks' with some of my favorite ways to use these rudiments on the kit. If you’re ready to take your rudiments to the next level, check out the books here: www.carlitomendoza.com/shop

One of several reasons why Keith Moon's drumming continues to be so interesting is because only now & again can identifiable rudiments be parsed from it, compared to, say, Ginger Baker, who was always playing very identifiable rudiments, especially paradiddles. It is always most exciting when drumming is placed farther & farther away from it's Army Signal Corps origins, so that instead of assimilating it on the first listen, we instead respond by saying "WHAT the hell was THAT?" Being didactic is not the aim of an art.
@JuanCarlitoMendoza17 күн бұрын
Absolutely, I understand! I just aim to help those who are searching for answers. Keith was an incredible drummer with a style all his own. Some people might not find his drumming as captivating, while others, like you, really connect with his playing. The beauty of it all is that music is subjective, and everyone learns in their own way. Some might enjoy the mystery behind a drummer’s approach, while others prefer an analytical breakdown to understand the “how” and “why.” Is one approach better than the other? Personally, I believe that whatever helps you achieve the results you’re after-and makes you happy-is what matters. Thanks so much for checking out the video!
@ericmalone321317 күн бұрын
@@JuanCarlitoMendoza Thank you for this, Juan. I can't imagine how anyone, especially any drummer, wouldn't find Mistah Moon's drumming to be entirely captivating, despite Kit Lambert's dreadful production (John Entwistle said that Lambert's production made Moon's drums "sound like biscuit tins"!). I suggest that music is not subjective. Likes and dislikes are subjective. A sharp, well-informed critical acumen goes beyond likes and dislikes, pointing to the qualities that distinguish fully-realized work from less than fully-realized work. Whether one likes something or not doesn't like something doesn't say very much about the qualities inherent in the work. E.g., "I like The Velvet Underground much more than I like King Crimson." Back to drum rudiments: When I was barely into my teens, I listened carefully to records & approached the drum kit with an innate sense of how to coordinate the kick drum, snare & hi-hat, such that I was playing rudiments without knowing I was playing them. I'm a left-handed drummer playing a right handed kit with my left hand playing the hi-hat & my right hand playing the snare, etc, & I automatically played with a combination of French & German grips, not knowing that that's what I was doing. Gradually, I caught up with the traditions of technique and music theory, after having horrible experiences with a dogmatic jazz drill instructor teacher who tried to force me to play traditional grip on a reversed (left-handed) kit--I wasn't having it! Today were are aesthetically many generations away from 19th century signal corps rudimentary drumming, e.g., in an open field of non-tempered scales in free time, just to point to one contemporary area that's a light year or two away, i.e., different, from the kind of jazz-pop-a-rock-fusion that towering chops monsters perform at the annual NAMM conferences, & equally as far from Taylor Swift & Beyonce. Lots of great exciting music is beyond category, not at all identifiable by genre identity. CHEERS

Well this didn’t help me at all being a blind individual I am not capable of following visually. What’s the sticking?
@JuanCarlitoMendoza16 күн бұрын
I am so sorry about that! The overall sticking for most of the examples are LLRLRL or RRLRLR. In the video, I put them in different positions as well. For example, RLLRLR or LRRLRL. It all depends on the example that was presented on the video. If there's certain one that sticks out to you let me know and I'll tell you the exact sticking and voicing of it. Seriously I apologize about that.

@JumpRopeMasters16 күн бұрын
@ thank you for taking time to reply to this and truely humbled you checking out the channel. I am able to follow the accents and how you were moving and shifting them. I just didn’t understand the sticking patterns especially when you started moving around the doubles. Is it only your right moving around the kit and leaving your left on snare? Or you shift your left over to high hat and play open at times too?
@JuanCarlitoMendoza16 күн бұрын
@@JumpRopeMasters The ratamacues are mostly fills between the floor tom and snare. Left hand is mostly on the snare. So for example RLLRLR, can now be played RLL (Snare) Replace the Right hand with a KICK and then LR. All depends on the pattern.
