That would be great but if you want to find the relics in good condition then more towards the eastern front is the best in the bogs for some reason it preserves things better. Watch some of the videos of them getting stuff there.

You know that every time I see an intact clip of bullets I think about the poor guy in the midst of a fire fight who had an "Oh, shit" moment as he reached into his pocket to reload and found nothing but lint.

Wounded men being treated and wounded men die’ing, on the very ground your walking on and digging up the artifacts of war. It was a brutal war, but unfortunately a necessary war. Thanks for sharing

Funny thing about the Kar98. If you pulled back on the bolt very hard too many times you could break the pin that held it. I've only seen it a couple times so I'm not an expert. My dad would hold it tight and snap them back as hard as he could to break the retention pin then smash it into the ground. He was a paratrooper in ww2.

Again...very nice trip ! Various and interesting WW2 relics ! It's the first time when I see that german optical 'device' (''Scissors telescope')...awesome ! That damaged K98 barrel... I would have kept the ammo stripper clips...from that pile of 7.92 ammo... That part of mask reminds of WW1... Every single relic has a story behind it...it only depends on us to discover/understand (who wants to...do it...of course ;-/) what it wants to say about what it happened there, then... A time ago I found a 7.92 round (?!?)...steel/iron made cases (very rusted) and...GMCS bullet (very well 'preserved' !) BUT I still don't know WHO and WHEN (in WW2) produced THIS 'type' of cartridges (7.92x57mm ?!?...they looked like 7.92 but...not sure because of the rust): iron/steel case and GMCS bullet... So, nice expedition, very interesting WW2 relics...another amazing video ! Good job guys !

War relics in the USA are pretty much limited to our Civil War which was 150 years ago, of which are mostly gone, returned to mother earth.

while in berlin i met some guys from the us who went digging all over europe and shipped some 200 kg of relics in the states.. medals, rifles helmets you name it..

Just out of curiosity, i know German law is full of red tap, do you have to turn in or report certain artifacts? I guess it would be true to hear in the USA !

He is not allowed to dig for it. If somebody finds something on the surface or during some construction works related digs you immediately have to contact the authorities. It does not matter if the property is private or public. Buying land in Germany does not give you the right for that.

The 'spare' barrel is only different by not being attached to the weapon. It's just a barrel. And there were alternative barrels because the high rate of fire if the barrel wasn't swapped out periodically could melt/warp.

My grandfather from my father's side fought for the defense of Berlin back there and got killed by a Rushian bomber that flew my other grandfather from my mother's side and when I see stuff like this I feel happy and sad at the same time :(

I believe the barrel you found was a spare K98 barrel and not a rotted out one. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but they had two barrel options the standard service rifle had a different rifling pattern then the marksman variant. also, you can usually find the model number on the larger portion that would be closer to the breach.

Out of all rifles used by Germany in ww2 the gewehr 43 stands out most to me as a very good and easy to produce rifle with rugged durability if that makes any sense

The reason the barrel you found was bent like that is because the Russians would smash them off the trees so they couldn’t be used again that’s why a lot of k98’s or any guns are found around the base of the trees

I can't imagine what thoughts were going through those soldiers minds as they knew the inevitable was coming, and they couldn't even barely slow it down. And I was just thinking, in all your videos I've watched recently, I'd never seen you dig up a potato masher. Then Lo and behold! I suppose they must deteriorate pretty quickly in comparison to the British and american grenades.

Well it’s easy to assume that some battlefields (Verdun, fe) are giant graveyard if you were to dig a couple of meters, because artillery and shells were responsible for so many casualties. But you can’t detect skeletons with a metal detector.

It should be "Kar98k" or "Karabiner 98 Kurz", K98K. as its a short version of the K98 (lang) from WW1... ;) and WOW on 10.55, thats a gas-piston of a Sturmgewehr 44 or StG44! Anyway, nice video, cool place and well shot material!

Ypu know some of the Germans MMGs had a feature where the barrel was interchangable if it got to hot from the rate of fire and they did get hot.

Bent Scheuerle some good areas would be around the wooded areas of cologne and Berlin and just to be clear it is best to search of the western front as the germans used their most lethal mines and and other weapons on the Russians and they didn’t do the beat job of cleaning on the east
