My mom and uncle used to record music videos when I was a kid and would play the tapes. I may have been a 1990s teen but I still loved the 1980s music and videos I watched as a kid even if some of my peers didn't "get me" or "get it"

Saw her a couple of years ago at Viejas Casino --she opened for Pat Benitar. Pat and company were great, but Pat was obviously bored with doing her old songs. Terri, on the other hand, loved being out there. She went down into the crowd and hugged people, she stood on chairs and lead the audience in song. Did almost her whole set interacting directly with the audience. Very uplifting.
@Tricob19743 жыл бұрын
I can understand Pat Benatar's disenchantment with her older material. She did "Gravity's Rainbow" in the 1990s, where she basically took all the best elements of Grunge Rock, none of the bad elements, and used the elements to create numerous tracks exploding with charisma and character. She hadn't done this with her 70s and 80s material because Grunge was not a thing back then. But while the record label might have seen better success by promoting "You And I", "Sanctuary", or "Kingdom Key" as lead singles, they instead chose "Somebody's Baby", which failed to crack the Top 20. If Pat had planned on Gravity's Rainbow to be a building block of albums to come, anything she recorded before that point may seem like a step backwards to her, and her resentment towards her older songs was likely to build up over time.

I 100% agree. I'm just glad I got to have a taste of it. I was born late 80s, but I'm obsessed with the era. The hair, the music, the movies, the cartoons. It was all timeless and is why they keep recycling so much of it.

As an 80s kid listening to this song all the time I never envisioned it as a Bonnie & Clyde escapade. We had the best music in the 80s, the best TV shows (on the tube TV with the huge clunky remote that never worked because it was all sticky from me drinking pop & picking the marshmallows out of the lucky charms box during summer vacation) How did we get so old..... YAY GEN-X!!!

I actually saw them twice in 1984, and I'm not a big concert goer. I was visiting in Atlanta in may, out looking for something to do, and I drive past the Fox Theater, and see "Berlin, May 5(?) 7pm w/ Real Life" and I go "hmmm, interesting... HEY, WAIT A MINUTE!! THAT's **now**!" Parked, tickets were available, got one and it was great. They had people dancing in the aisles!. Three months later they're in my home town (a college town) opening for the Thompson Twins (who they blew away!). Berlin comes out, does their set, then gets called back, and they do a cover of Prince's "Controversy". They were awesome!!

My grandpa and his brothers were teenagers during the great depression. I remember grandpa telling us they worked really hard chopping cords of wood for enough money to get biscuits and canned prunes. They survived on that for a long time, a year I think. He worked really hard his entire life, was loyal to his crazy wife, never complained about life and by the time he was elderly he had a nice sum of money saved up for his kids and grandkids. Not enough people like him anymore.

While "Take My Breath Away" was the bigger hit I think this was the superior song and always felt this should've been a Top 10 hit, this song has all the makings of a good Top 10 single, this song was popular in the Spring of 1984.

This song was MUCH better than their better known hit "Take My Breath Away"!!

Both songs were made by Giorgio Moroder.

Agree, and that is the only one that is played. They had other songs. We tend to only hear the hits, but sometimes the other songs from the artists were much better. Another example is 'Running up that Hill' by Kate Bush. She had so many wonderful songs, but everyone knows 'Running.'

I’m so glad to see someone else say this. I grew to hate Take my Breath Away bc it was played ad infinitum … my god, you couldn’t get away from it. This is IMO, a far superior song.

I just found out that Terri Nunn was the "runnerup" for being cast as Princess Leia in Star Wars back in the 1970s. Ummh, I like Carrie Fisher, but Terri would have been AMAZING.

I remember Berlin came and partied at The Starck Club in Dallas in the 80s. Great times!!

Damn this really takes me back!...I remember watching every video Berlin released during that era and thinking how hot Teri Nunn is! No doubt about it one can't think of the '80s without mentioning Berlin! Also any fan of Top Gun will remember "Take My Breath Away" which was a really big song for them....I recall seeing them live in concert opening for the Thompson Twins in the early '80s in Tallahassee, FL but do not remember exactly what year it was but I know it was after both bands had already scored a few big hits so I guess it would be maybe around 1984...I do remember both bands sounded very good live and able to duplicate the exact same sound as their recordings and that in itself is quite a feat for any band to sound as good live as they do on record! It's just not easy to do and depends a lot on musical skills, the singing and especially on the sound man being able to duplicate the studio sound in a live setting. I've seen some very good bands with several #1 hits that sounded like crap live and then some who sounded identical to the recording and I suppose it has a lot to do with how much enhancement is used in the studio regarding FX and "faking it" which of course will tell on you when performing live on how well a band sounds without all of the "toys" and tricks used in studio production when recording an album. So having said that, Berlin and Thompson Twins both sounded great live based on my own opinion and hearing this song really takes me back to an era when great music was released weekly and heard on the radio every week! There was such good material back then released weekly which actually was a lot compared to what all is heard today with so many remakes of old material as well as '80s hits often heard these days. Am I biased toward '80s material?--Hell yeah but having said that, there IS some good material heard time to time these days but just not the same calibre of what was heard in the '80s and regardless of what one agrees with today- it is just fact! I realize that the '80s fashion with it's trampy look is not widely accepted these days but it along with the music, they both just-----worked! And one wouldn't understand it exactly unless being from and having lived in that era and having experienced it--the whole party scene! :)

Truly impressive attention to historical detail in this video. The cars, clothes, weapons and even the sunglasses are completely correct to the period depicted. It’s like a little movie and it must have cost a small fortune to make. You sure don’t see videos like this any more.

Berlin is one of those bands that growing up as a metal head in Texas in the 80s, I couldnt admit that I liked, I'm glad I dont have that problem now... and as a Texan, the Bonnie and Clyde video doesnt hurt.
