I would love to know how those shells ended up in a forest in Berlin. I always thought that the dump sites were strictly military, but this one seems to have items that more typically would have been in civilian homes. Thank you Mike, and Rene, and Jeff, for bringing a little bit more history to life and for rescuing these artifacts. Thank you for another great video.

I think the round, brown Bakelite box is not for Gramophone Needles, but for paint tape for typewriting machines. Eupen is not a German City, it is in Belgium. The small, oval enamel sign with the inscription "Tellertuch" is for a kitchen towel to dry up dishes/plates. In the past there was different type oft these signs used. Some were "Gläsertuch" for drinking glasses, "Messertuch" for silver knifes and so on. So they had different towels for different use. The white porcelain shard with the inscription "Graupen" was once a kitchen storage container for barley groats. Nice finds at all 🙂

A day I'll go to Poland. Near Wroclaw, where I met my wife, and I'll start to search for something interesting. I know a place where germans left many things in 1945...it's near an old house near the old apartment of my wife....in Berlin I know where are you searching. Think that after WWII, the city in ruin was simply cleaned im this way. There you can find a lot of part of houses or shops. Unfortunately, many beautiful places were lost forever, and with them, the old beautiful ceramics and items...there you can find bottles, books, weapons, helmets, knives and toys too...

5-6 years ago I started watching iron Mike, always been interested in the WW’s and what’s left over. This channel has led me to a channel called crocodiletear. It was there that I truly learned the horrors of the great wars. You hear about it a lot, it’s pretty obvious how much damage was caused. But seeing 60-70 skeletons being pulled out of unmarked ground and thrown into boxes to be reburied with military honors, in 2021. Is, to say the least.. quite the eye opener. Truly

I see this excavation as a sign of disrespect towards the fallen, carried out without the professional criteria that an archaeologist would apply, similar to the "huaqueros" who loot ancient graves in Peru and other countries. After this, it’s unclear what they intend to do with the remains found. On the other hand, I’ve seen in some posts that the Russians have erected monuments in Germany to honor the fallen Soviet soldiers. While it’s true that Hitler was one of the greatest criminals in history, along with the Nazi leaders responsible for indescribable atrocities, I believe that many German soldiers were simply following orders, and among them, there were many children. It’s incomprehensible to refer to them as "Nazi children" who deserved execution, as this would be akin to justifying child abuse by claiming the victims consented. Minors are not in a position to make free or conscious decisions. Finally, regarding the Soviet monuments on German soil, these must represent a humiliation for the German people. While they are understood as commemorations of Soviet soldiers, they also serve as a constant reminder of defeat and occupation.

Watch a TV documentary a couple of nights ago about the eruption at Pompeii - they showed a blackened loaf from CE79 - now THAT was burned! Why so many Winterhilfswerk badges? Did the Germans ditch all their Nazi associated bits and pieces in 1945 as a part of their attempt to get a Persilshein? Loved the harmonica - my Uncle Dan "souvenired" one in north Africa (he drove supply trucks for the 8th Army) and told stories of the hundreds of Afrika Korps troops being marched east into captivity. The only tune he ever learned to play was "Lilly Marlene" but said it was so satisfying playing a captured German song on a captured German harmonica to captured German troops!

@adamhayes53496 ай бұрын
Yes. It was taken from Germany in the illegal plebeisite in 1920. Eupen/Malmedy/St. Vith. Belgium wanted it for the Bismuth mines, and in 1920, Germany was in no shape to really do anything about it. When Germany invaded Belgium in 1940? They obviously reclaimed it back into The Reich. Most likely, that badge is to commemorate the German liberation of the city in 1940.

As someone who took just a limited number of college archaeology classes and worked on a handful of digs, your methodology makes me cringe. Shoving spades and shovels down into the dirt has such potential for breaking or damaging many finds. We NEVER used shovels; always scraped carefully layer by layer with trowels and brushes. It takes longer but when we came across something delicate, it wouldn't get damaged. Something to consider, although you probably won't change your approach...
