It used to be a gem of a city! Seeing old pictures/videos of the beautiful landscape of art that this city once was always makes me melancholic. Cameras were invented just in time.

Absolutely right, under the architect Schinkel this city was the ideal of perfect urban planning

@@FaberCourtial Yes he was a great architect! He shaped Berlin like Klenze shaped Munich or Semper shaped Vienna! All the Prussian architecture in Berlin is awesome but what really makes the city so magical for me is the connection between the buildings and the STATUES. The city could be completely empty of people and still feel alive! Prussian architectural sculpture just hits DIFFERENT. Thank you for these beautiful reconstructions! I love them! Also the ones of Rome and other places🏛❤

Thank you very much! Have you been to these cities often? It's a shame what scars were left on these cities by the Second World War and especially the time afterwards

@@FaberCourtial To Vienna and Munich I've bewn very often, Berlin only once so far. It really is sad to see how some of the most beautiful places in the world are now a shadow, if anything, of their former self. But to be honest: I deeply apprechiate everything that DOES still exist, and if we look at all the destruction and hate of the last century, it could as well have been all destroyed completely... and the neglectance of the post-war era could have been the final blow... so sometimes it seems like a miracle to me that so many beautiful structures in so many cities even have survived or were rebuilt post-war. But yes, as you said, there is a painful scar in many cities faces. Especially knowing what they used to look like. That's why I am always excited about rebuilding projects like those that are happening all around Dresden of Potsdam right now, or the one of the Berliner Schloss (although they didn't quite convince me they way they did that. Should've included the "Gigantentreppe")!

Nevertheless, it is a historic stroke of luck that the Berliner Stadtschloss was rebuilt. I think today people would vote against it and the ugly "Palace of the Republic" building from the GDR era would dominate the cityscape of Berlin Mitte.

Is there more to this or that’s it?

It is part of a multi-part documentary by ZDF (German television). Sorry for the unusually late reply.
