In Japan it is common to burn entire mountains of wild grass in winter - spring time. One key aspect that may be worth taking note of is that they start the fire on the edges and let it burn toward the center. In this way after starting the fire can not possibly go anywhere they do not want it to. The actual perimeter of the fire decreases as it burns away from the fire line. This is similar to what you see BYD doing in that he started the fire at the part closest to his home and the fire is moving away from it. You can see that he has created a line of water to stop the fire from going towards his house before he even started the fire.

Every time I did it, that portion of my lawn that was burned came in greener than the rest of the lawn that was not burned. I attributed that to the ash providing fertilizer of some sort.

Byd you are on point my brother. By burning, you are introducing more organic matter into the turf which is adding more carbon to your soil structure. Carbon increases CEC (cation exchange capacity) which in turn makes a more efficient grass blade regarding its nutrient uptake (less acidic). Throw down some fulvic acid (resilience) along with your regular lawn schedule and you are already super strong this season fam! Well played fam! Get em!!

Lawn came in beautifully. The main reason i did it was the thatch was getting too heavy. I told Dad about it. He did it and almost burned his house down. All his bushes ended up being replaced, etc. He didn't ask & I didn't explain all the details about it just that I "burned off the yard". /smh/

Since YT wont let me post a link here's a copy of some information I found about burning grass. The Benefits Of Burning Grass For Regrowth 1. **Nourishing the Soil**: The ash resulting from burned grass acts as a natural fertilizer, enriching the soil with essential minerals. This nutrient boost can enhance the overall health and vigor of the regrowing grass. 2. **Controlling Weeds**: Burning grass can help control weed growth. Weeds typically have shallow root systems that are more susceptible to damage during a fire, while established grass can rebound more successfully. 3. **Promoting New Growth**: Burning grass eradicates thatch, which can accumulate over time and suffocate healthy grass. Removing thatch allows sunlight and moisture to penetrate the soil, stimulating new grass growth. Understanding Grass Regrowth After Burning When grass is burned, the immediate effect may appear detrimental. The exposed soil, blackened remnants, and stunted lawn can be discouraging. However, beneath the surface, a complex process unfolds. Here’s a closer look at how grass regrowth occurs after burning: 1. **Root Survival and Protection**: Grass species have evolved to withstand fires in nature. Their extensive root systems play a crucial role in their survival. During a burn, grass roots are protected by the soil, ensuring they remain undamaged or minimally affected. 2. **Nutrient Release**: Burning grass releases essential nutrients stored in the plant back into the soil. Ash from burnt grass contains valuable minerals such as potassium, phosphorus, and calcium, which contribute to soil fertility. 3. **Reduced Competition**: Burning grass removes thatch and dead organic matter, reducing the competition for resources like water, sunlight, and nutrients. This process allows new grass shoots to emerge with less hindrance.

What if you have a lawn that's mostly weeds, no Bermuda grass, either. Will the weeds die and the grass survive? My mom lives across the street and she started getting bad stickers that are almost as painful to step on as goat heads. I wonder if we could use a weed killer then burn it, then plant grass.
