I agree with you on the costumes. Whenever the entertainment industry tries to "re-make" something, the first thing they always do, is try to "sexualize" the clothing and the performance. As someone who came from a family involved in music and dance, I believe that TRUE talent doesn't need distractions like revealing outfits. This is the issue that I have with R' and B' "singers". If they actually went on stage in modest and conservative clothing, people might realize that the person that they paid hundreds of dollars to see, has little to no talent. As much as I love Irish dance, one issue I had with some of Michael Flatley's later shows, is that the women were dressed in costumes that were more and more revealing. If you watch Feet of Flames Budapest, the temptress acts more like a stip dancer and during that version of 'stolen kiss', michael ripped her skirt off to reveal thong underwear. It was sickening and I feel bad for the parents who may have brought young children to the show. The same thing with 'celtic tiger'; a woman comes on stage playing 'yankee doodle' in what looks like a 2 piece swimsuit with the stars and stripes. I'm sorry but my father and Godfather fought in the military and the flag should not be degraded to something worn on a woman's behind. It is possible to turn sonething that was beautiful, creative and inspirating, into sleaze filled trash. As they say, " if it aint broke don't fix it".

They are humans, not robots! Imagine folks if YOU had to do this every single night-almost the same things and steps( OK, sometimes with a little change) ......would not you also be tired of it eventually? You just can't have the same amount of enthusiasm on your face under these circumstances! Bernie- her dance is more graceful than in her twenties, she gets better as she ages! She is so stunning, but I believe everyone would get tired after a while! Don't be surprised at all. :)

I totally agree. Like Michael once said about Morrighan: It's always about knowing wen to turn on the sex appeal." Can't recall her name at the moment, but whoever she is, she just doesn't know how to perform the character. Plus there's her look. She's more cute than sexy.

Kind of. The costumes are a bit flashier, the stage and set has been downsized with the cast a bit, but the excellence of the dancing is still there. (Thank goodness) There are some things I like about it and some I don't. I just don't like LOTD.

Greatfuljane you are so right! She kinda reminds me of a spinning top actually. Lol I am so glad that you are one of those people who actually has noticed this should not be! It really upsets me that they changed the choreography, because honestly.... it cheapens the show.

Then I have to warn you; don't watch some of the newer versions of LORD of the Dance. It has become, a combination of gymnastics, strip show, a Dark lord that looks like something from star wars or the terminator and music that has nothing to do with Irish roots. The Irish dancing is almost gone and it is nothing like the exciting show taped at the pointe theater. New and improved, doesn't always mean that it's better than the original; in some instances, it's worse.

Have to agree with the majority. I have a DVD of the original LOTD and have to say that it was much more atmospheric than FOF. And Gillian Norris is much missed as Morrighan.

@FrayFan48 I do think the original one was nice, but I actually also liked the FOF costume a bit more. Think of it this way- when you are wealthy, you dress wealthy. By the way I would go check out Collin Dunne and Jean Butler's show Dancing on Dangerous Ground here on youtube. It's a less flashy more dramatic Irish Dance show that has kind of become a cult classic I guess.

For all the naysayers and whatnots. Please do understand that dancing something for so long rather needs to be freshened up and sad as it is, performers won't always be as awesome as they can be. If you're doing 100 dates some nights are going to be off. It's just what it is.

@@92alphagal New dancers (years ago). That time Detty was about 32 years old. Yes, they can dance, but the girl instead of Jill isn't nice at all. That blondie girl I don't think to be Detty. It's a wig on her head. There are always new dancers in the teams.

It was a while ago, I would day three or four years ago because the set has changed a bit. The drawbridge thing at the center now has three different pieces of knotwork on it. Saoirse's costume has also changed to a two piece that is a bit more revealing(which I absolutely despise).

Cool. Honestly, I really hate the state of the show at the present. It's waaaaaaaay overproduced. It's basically become a caricature of itself. One of the things that was so appealing originally with Lord of the Dance to me was it felt like you were actually stepping back into the long forgotten past when Ireland was made up of many clans. Now, all the aspects of the story are dwarfed by the short skirts, LED screens, sub par choreography & super small cast. It's basically like Riverdance now.

Riverdance was, and always will be classy. At least they let the music and dance tell the story and you won't find the dancers in ANY state of undress. I wouldn't mind letting young kids watch Riverdance because it teaches that ALL cultures can relate to music and dance and that can unite us. Michael Flatley stated that LORD of the Dance was mean't to tell the story of good over evil but over time, it deviated and began to focus on sensuality and sex appeal; to the detriment of the music and dancing that was the PRIMARY focus of the show. When you've created a masterpiece, leave it alone and let it be, what it was intended to be. If you keep messing with art, the original beauty becomes flawed and distorted.

P.S. I always found Bernadette a bit on the "sloppy" side if you can even call it that given her amazing level of skill. Somehow even in FoF she wasn't always as synchronized as the others were, something that her counterpart Gillian Norris was extremely good at and was probably the third best dancer there ( nr 1 to me being Daire Nolan in FoF followed by Michael, reverse that for the original taping of LotD )

Sorry, but I don't like the girl playing Morrighan either. She's not making her moves real sharp and smooth. Gillian did a great job as the original morrighan making all her movements sharp and sexy. I am not saying this girl's not doing the steps well, I am just saying her delivery is not there. I have yet to see someone portray Morrighan as the sexy Temptress that she is. That's why I am very interested to see who's who in the Fof taiwan principal cast.

This isn't as good as the original. I don't like Damien Doherty. He seems too boyish and not very graceful or expressive. I'm also not crazy about the woman playing Morrighan. There's nothing sexy about her.
