Thank you so much for putting these videos together. I am a relatively new ukulele player and I have trouble figuring out how many times to strum the chords when playing a songs so it was really helpful for me when you tell me how many strums of each chord. I thought the speed was good not too fast not too slow.

+loris4563 hey! Nice to meet you :) Thank you for your sweet comment! My students always ask me, "how many times do I strum!?" so it was only natural to add that on this video. Hope to hear from you again 😉

I found if I practice the chord changes while really listening I can eventually correct the strumming. If I tried to count and play and sing It's harder than just trying to feel the rhythm naturally, and less fun.

If you want to spice up the C and G from the first verse: you can add the index finger on the third fret, E string for the C chord on the fourth beat, and the pinky on the fifth fret of the A string for G likewise. Like: C-C-C- (0,0,3,3) x 4 and then G-G-G-(0, 2,3,5) x2 , etcetera. The melody after the chorus is (string/fret): A/3 - A/2 - A/0 - E/3 - E/3 and then the C chord.

Thanks for putting these videos up! I've wanted to teach my two daughters (8 and 11 years old) and these will definitely come in handy. Small request in regards to song tutorials: it would be cool if you would play a small sample of verse/chorus at the begin so the viewer knows what to expect from the lesson. The Ukulele Teacher is a great example of this. All the best to you and thanks again!!

+Donny Fontenot hi! It's nice to hear from someone new! Thank you for the suggestion. I will add that to future videos ☺️ Your daughters are the perfect ages to start learning ukulele. Most of my students are right around their age. They all start on the concert size ukulele (a few also buy their own soprano size). Looking forward to hearing from you again!
@donnyf12
@donnyf12 7 жыл бұрын
That surprises me a bit. I would think that soprano would be easier for young students as the finger reach for chords would be shorter. I have a concert and two sopranos so I guess I'll have to see which they prefer. Thanks for the advice!
@BernadetteTeachesMusic
@BernadetteTeachesMusic 7 жыл бұрын
Donny Fontenot when I started working with elementary it surprised me too. I had soprano, concert, and tenor ukuleles in the classroom and most kids would gravitate towards the concert size. I had an itty bitty student who would reach for the soprano because it was tiny like her, but when we went to perform, she liked the concert size... I have no idea why 😂

Hi Bernadette, I am a 75 year old woman who joined a ukulele band about 3 years ago but I don't seem to make much progress. I can't get that sound that ukulele players make when they kind of strum as if they are just messing about, but it is really harmonious! Can you advise me? I love your videos. So this was your first video on your KZbin channel. It’s nice to see in your more recent videos you have become more comfortable with your own singing. We are our own worst critics and that’s the only thing holding you back. You could be amazing if you only believed a little more in yourself. I’m just beginning and you are a little fast for me. I like how in your later videos you have put a visual of the cords on the left hand side. The way you set the visuals up is top notch to. I especially like the big fonts as well. Keep up the good work.

@BernadetteTeachesMusic 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Scott! You're definitely in the archives now! Thank you for the feedback. I'm happy to hear that you think the teaching is too fast because I can adjust that in future videos. This kind of feedback is GOLDEN to me :) Yes, since the filming of this video I learned how to add large fonts and chords on the screen. I'm so happy you noticed that and find that helpful. You're the best.

Bernadette Teaches Music Hi Mrs. B. I’m not quite the best, but some day maybe I’ll be half as good as you. I just need years of faithful practice and I may reach that goal. I notice you have put together several training aids and it looks like that may have been done over a period of time. What isn’t quite clear to me is how these training aids should be purchased for maximum efficiency. Since budget is always an issue, I’m trying to research as best I can for the best results. The problem I’m getting into is I’m starting to do more research than strumming. Would it be possible to create a syllabus of sorts to get self teaching students like myself strumming more and researching less? I’m beginning to think the key is learning the chords and exercising chord changes. I’ve found that I can play one or two songs okay, but once those chord patterns change at all, it’s like I’m back to square one. My fingers and brain turn stupid making me only want to practice what I already know. I know I must challenge myself to get better. You have done some fantastic songs that I really want to learn but in order to get there, I think I need to run some exercises or something. Does “no pain, no gain” apply? By the way, thank you for the response, I didn’t anticipate getting one. Best Regards, Scott

Hi Scott!!! I apologize for not getting back to you in this comment 😔 Now that I am in summer break I am going through messages to make sure I am getting back to people. I have put together training aids for music teachers who have ukulele curriculum needs. As far as training aids for people in my youtube community go, I will be creating training aids and posting them in my Patreon page here www.patreon.com/bernadetteteachesmusic This will be a work in progress and develop over time. If you tell me what you need and what would help you learn, then I can give you what you need! ❤️

I wanna know, have you ever seen the rain? Comin' down on a sunny day [Verse 2] Yesterday, and days before Sun is cold and rain is hard I know, been that way for all my time 'Til forever, on it goes Through the circle, fast and slow I know, it can't stop, I wonder [Chorus] I want to know, have you ever seen the rain? Have You Ever Seen The Rain was actually a war protest song. How rain relates to it I am not sure, but I am thinking the symbolism must be this guy can't ever catch a break because even when it is sunny, it's raining. Not sure if you knew the CCR pathos, but that is why they were so popular.
