This Adagio doesn't need any other symphony movements to be the greatest symphony ever composed on this planet ! I still remember the moment when i heard first time this shocking climax after lull before this storm 16:50 - 18:55 , and when he looks back to the introducing theme 21:50 it takes my breath every time when i hear this - but he transforms the traumatic moment into deliverance in the end of this incredible work ... :) Thank you for uploading this phantastic version !

Sublime! THANK you for posting! Mahler's genius shines, even in death. In this he lives on and on - "ewig!" ~Cate

Mahler is in the pantheon of artist , along with Sainte Columbe, Bach, Beethoven, Shakespeare, Rembrandt and many others who understood and expressed with power and beauty what it is to be a human.

I remember that about 35 ago, Haitink said that he'd never perform this symphony, because it wasn't entirely by Mahler's hand and was instead finished by Deryck Cooke. He also said that when young, he didn't want to conduct Mahler at all, saying that Mahler used to make him "sick." I'm glad that Haitink has lived long enough to recognize the error of his ways, because I'd rather hear him conduct Mahler over any other living conductor.

What's quite interesting is that when he was a young conductor, Haitink disliked Mahler's music rather intensely. Then Haitink matured, embraced it, and became one of Mahler's greatest interpreters. Then, for years, he refused to embrace Mahler's 10th because it was finished by Deryck Cooke and not Mahler, but as usual, Haitink kept maturing. Haitink now is 85 years old, and I hope he keeps maturing.

Who are the actual people making the music please.
@grabit17 жыл бұрын
Either the Berlin Philharmonic or the Concertgebouw Orchestra. No one else could do it, especially in Haitink's hands.
