Purdie plays cross stick BUTT DOWN!!! That's the way I play a rim click, but the problem (and benefit) is a lot of variability of TONE. Tip down rim clicks is much more consistent, and louder. IMHO

And never grooved 1/10 as hard. Buddy Rich blew plenty of wind of his own, usually bitching out and firing his bands. And lacked Bernard’s humility to leave out some of the notes and make it about the band and not just the drummer
