I remember meeting Bernard outside of my dads business in Queens on Sutphin Blvd., his song "who do you love" was on the radio and it was a big hit. To this day I love that song, it reminds me of my teen years, I wish more of announcement of his death was made so people could pay respects and the radio could give his song some love today.

Bernard was my friend. He was a music mentor for me and would often spend days at a time sleeping on my couch. We would play music and take breaks to play chess. Bernard plays melodica on one track on my album with vocalist, Bettie Cager.

I knew the man in his latter years living in downtown Dallas in his skyloft flat apartment just up Akard and Ervay in the bldg with the 7-11 in the back lobby. He was a big time convenience store food eater; and he was also a savant. Brilliant is an understatement - his intentionally unmedicated mental health coping mechanism wa to me the only detriment to his overall character. He was a part of ALL the good music of his own era. Literally ALL of it. Listen to the keyboard loops for Whodini's One Love and Friends (How many of us have them?). All him. Cameo in post production recordings with a full band playing above Larry Blackmon's casio keyboarded demos to hear Bernard give us his full on Van Cliburn medal winning classical piano virtuoso with the melodies of Attack Me with your Love, She's Strange and Back & Forth. Hear Bernard playing with Rufus as a synth mimic on keys to the electric guitaring on Ain't Nobody from the Breakin' sdtk. Chaka Khan is who he has been in front of me calling his muse, his mentor in music, and his auntie. I was astonished to see how well he had known Ms Khan back in her hey-day... but I doubted him a little in my head. Then bam I have a full on earshot of the speakerphone conversation with the legendary diva one night I was with my friend/later liver and Bernard's eventual manager - the late Stormie McLeod, and we both simultaneously had to drop our jaw in shock at what we were hearing. Stormie looked at me immediately and said "He knows literally everybody"... and Bernard Wright was right across the glass coffee table in front of my face as he videocalled Chaka Khan on his slightly outdated Android cellphone, like it was NOTHING, just to ask if she had heard Busta Rhymes verse on Chris Brown's "Look At Me Now"... plus what did the doctor say about her sciatica in her hip, blah blah blah. Hand to God. Bernard Wright was the unheralded greatest musician ever in Dallas history, period. UNT alums like myself should all be able to bring up his exploits and accolades to let others know what kind of music institution our alma mater is. Not just the one Nora Jones was in then got a deal with a label without winning a single award. Bernard has a full trophy case worth of first chair ratings and accompaniment for live orchestral and symphonic arts while a student in UNT Denton. He was modest about his talent (gift/annoinment). He was to me a mentor and elder who imparted wisdom on me to respect the friendship he and Stormie had when you me and her broke up... Bernard was strong defender of his own and loved the ones who stood for him when at his wildest eccentricity and mental liability - and I will never say a bad thing about the man, living or dead now. His fingers are what made him live on in music immortality

I had a gig at Gerald’s in Queens in 1977, and Bernard sat in .Blew the place away..He was like 12 years old. I was fortunate enough to play with Lenny White. On a gig in D.C. , there were 3 keyboard players.Myself ,Bernard ,and the real legend Don Blackmon
