Im a Malaysian. Its quite sad to see you didnt enjoy those food.. You should try "Air Kelapa" when u when to the beach, "Cendol" are great on a sunny day, "Laksa Penang" (probably a bit spicy), "Tomyam Kung" (originally from thailand actually).. There is so much to enjoy!!

most malaysian love durian, they just don't simply eat them at random. Eating durian will leave your breath with a strong durian smell, not ideal if you don't have a place to wash your hand or wash your mouth after, especially if you are in the middle of doing something (wprking) or about to meet a friend, most people would enjoy it at home and wash up after before doing anything else.
