Perfecte uitvoering.Heerlijk.

My first time to hear this -- and I am absolutely enthralled by Crusell's genius! Thank you for posting. The rest of the world needs to listen to this awesome music. The 3 soloists are also virtuosi in their own right.

A great clarinetcomposer, famous in his time as player of the instrument. Conducted in Sint Petersburg , Paris and Stockholm where he lived and died 28 july 1838.

Crusell posed to himself a serious challenge to write a sinfonia concertante with such soloists. The result is more than probing. The use of the various concering instruments is extremely well written. They alternate with their own feature for our leasure. Think that they are all three more or less in the medium range and that only the treble of the clarinet can can bring here some light. It is used without any abuse. The orchestra plays this role with efficiency. We find some nostalgia listening to that dialogue in the medium range.

I've never thought of it that way, it is in fact a demanding trio. To add to the difficulty the highest pitched of the instruments, the clarinet, sounds best in its low, not high, register (listen to the opening of Mozart's Requiem - woodwind choir has bassoons written above basset horns). Not to mention this was written for a natural horn. The only recipe for success in that setting seems to be good melodic and contrapuntal skill, which Crusell proved to have with that work.

As good as any of the masters! Just discovered him this week, wonderfully thrilling and resonant in a dense orchestration!

As a clarinetist, I envy Stevensson his skill. There are those qualities to his playing that go far beyond excellent execution of the music and themselves are elevated to art. The "C" at 12:54, for example; while it isn't a particularly high note, it is easy to shove the sustained note out if you use enough breath support, and it comes out sounding forced and metallic. His C, however, is completely rounded, but remains light, and appears to dance out of the horn of the instrument and rest delicately on top of the phrase. What's more, he even adds a very subtle vibrato with only two or three pulses before cascading down into the run. Truly spectacular.

I actually would say his tone is a bit shrill. I'm not trying to start a fight, I'm merely sharing my opinion as you have done, and while I disagree, I still respect your opinion.

I admire Mozart, Beethoven, and other big names a great deal. But composers like Crusell, Kraus (the Swedish Mozart) and Krommer get overlooked and that is a pity. Many others were just as good as the big names. But they are sadly not recognized.

Crusell had an efficien sens of the instrumntal dialogue. This sinfonia concertante is excellent. Of course, we do not find here the genius of Mozart or Beethoven, but it is a chance for us music lovers that other, more minor, composers wrote excellent music in the shadow of these geniuses.
