Molique understands the oboe well. Two qualities the oboe has, it's nasal sound and it's restrain, restrain in register, dynamic contrast and breadth control. Not all composers are at home the the oboe. Wagner treated it sparingly as a solo. Tchaikovsky used it often. The oboe is a dryer sound than the clarinet. It favors distinction, not blends. Tchaikovsky likes his orchestration to be distinct, Wagner likes to blend. .

Hey: great Oboe-solos in the "Walküre", "Holländer", "Lohengrin", "Parsifal" (Karfreitagszauber), English Horn in "Tristan". Go slow, dude! And some oboist would't like the attribute "nasal" ... The Mollique is great, though. Born at Stuttgart. I will order the notes now and start.

There are plenty of oboists who don't sound very nasal at all actually. This oboist who I know is Heinz Holliger without even looking, is of the french school of old meaning he sounds ridiculously bright and buzzy. Frankly people don't really sound like this anymore, and I don't know many modernists who like this sound. I think most people just really enjoy Holliger's musicianship. Also oboe does like being soloistic but it does also blend very well. Think woodwind chorales like the beginning of Dvorak 9 or in Finlandia

oh ja , oboe concerto ist normalerweise nicht so mein Ding , weil es häufig nicht so ein Kleinod der Vitalität und Frische ist , aber das hier gefällt mir
