I met Bernie Wrightson in Seattle in 1998. He signed a trading card and Saga of the Swamp Thing #2. Great artist and gentleman.

I grew up in the 1970s and the Creepy, Eerie and the Vampirilla comics kept me happy. I miss the golden age of comic horror.

I am a collector of old school pulp books and magazines. I can guarantee you you can get your hands on some of those original eerie and creepy magazines cheaper than a reprint. On AbeBooks I often do some light shopping and pick up three to four old school books and magazines for less than $30, often the shipping and handling cost more than the books themselves.

Prime Wrightson - such a joy to see. Not only one of the Masters of horror comics, but one of the all-time Greats of Horror Illustration. And a complete gent in real life, too. Solely missed. Thanks for this one, guys.

I can't tell you how grateful I am to my local comic shop (Royal Collectibles) for turning me on to this channel!! I've been on board for a while now, and you guys never cease to provide excellent, engrossing content. Never before have I bought gear from a youtube channel I subscribe to (which are few and far between), but I bought like 5 shirts just to show support, lol!!! Not to mention collecting your works! I have never been a huge horror guy, but these "season of the witch" videos recently have been eye opening and have given me a greater appreciation for the genre and some legendary works that have been under my radar. As always, thanks.

I got to meet Wrightson and his wife at a comic shop in Lafayette, Indiana in the early 90s. They was super nice and attentive. I didn’t even know they would be there it was quite a surprise.

One of the great regrets of my life is that I never got to meet Bernie Wrightson.

I'm so happy to see you guys did Bernie. He's my favorite artist, or in that handful group of special artists. His stuff is just so damn incredible. I started enjoying Bernie Wrightson when I learned from the local comic shop that he was from the same town in Baltimore that I grew up in, and he always held a special place because I thought of him as the local guy (even though he moved to California, I think, before I was old enough to read...). Great video.

I thought you'd appreciate this: I teach a comics & graphic novel class for young adults, and yesterday one student wanted to do a version of "Little red riding hood" in which the grandmother cuts the hunter's skin off and wears his face, so I showed her Red Room for inspiration (along with Johnny Ryan and Joan Cornella)

I think Bernie Wrightson may have been one of the first horror related artists I allowed myself as a kid. I avoided Creepy and Eerie, but I'm remembering Cycle of the Werewolf.

As a kid I first noticed Bernie Wrightson from Heavy Metal magazine's "Captain Sternn", which was also in the movie. Insanely cool.

You guys are becoming my favorite channel. I love the way you talk about art and the passion you guys have for the smallest details, the history... all of it. Thank you for the content fellas!

i always felt that wrightson was graham ingels and frank frazetta added together and divided by two. the grotesque qualities of the former and the hyperbolic poses, textured lighting, and hatching of the latter.

man, Pushead is such a Wrightson disciple, and thankfully so! the cover, Pushead totally pastiched that character on the cover hete for the Septic Death 1987 EP "Burial Mai So" cover! that bit with the pages flying into the horizon? that aspect was lifted and incorporated into the cover of "Kichigai", somewhat in the "Burial..." cover too! cool! cool! cool! Black Cat was the first Wrightson i ever encountered. cool stuff.

I think there is some great sort-of-horror art during that early 70's period, just before the Warren stuff. There was a period where it was believed that superheroes were over, the comics code was modified, and publishers began playing with different genres. Marvel brought in a series of monster titles, where the monsters were basically written as superheroes, and they jump-started the sword and sorcery genre. At DC, with editors like Orlando and Giordano (both artists), you began to see some beautifully packaged horror comics. with half-toned covers on some, science fiction mixed in, narrative/text hybrid experiments and art by guys like Neal Adams, Gray Morrow, Alex Toth, Gil Kane, and Wrightson, growing and blossoming before your eyes.

I'm going to say that Jennifer is the second best. Disturbing on a deep level and haunting as well as artistically and technically polished. I have to say the best entry was Incident On and Off a Mountain Road. Great story and execution. Perfectly directed, shot, edited, acted, and scored. Great production design and effects. Great surprise ending. The presence of Bree Turner puts it over the top.

11:01 Hey, I saw a similarity image of the sunset in another comic. Well, it's just a case I guess. In fact, I think I saw the same image in films between the 30s and 40s. Anyway, here it is -> www.illibraio.it/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Pratt_corto.jpg
