I got to spend a lot of time with Bernie during his time living in Austin. What a kind and encouraging gentleman. He will always be missed. RIP.

He was living in an apartment in Burbank , CA near the all the movies studios. A friend of mine who was working in comics knew him said he was very cool guy. He offered to have me go with to meet him. I was to nervous to go to his place but wish I did.

How much do we think Sam Kieth and Kelley Jones were inspired by Wrightson?

I feel lucky to have gotten a copy of the second printing last year before it became even harder to find. I believe both editions are out of print now. In 2017 I saw full size original pages of Wrightson's Frankenstein artworks at the Guillermo Del Toro exhibit and the experience was life-altering. So much is lost when those panels are reduced to book size, but the originals really are monumental and show a kind of intensely mad artistic commitment to line drawing and creating forms and light and shadow with just simple pen work. There is a classical history of such line drawing that Wrightson drew from, but there really isn't another comic artist who has matched his crazy ability to create so much with such deliberately controlled and determined line work. These large art/artist/artifact editions books are the best medium for appreciating Wrightson's work - almost as if they were made for him - and I'd like to see more of his stuff commemorated in this format. Yes, Wrightson's Frankenstein truly does need to make its way to a large format publication because those panels deserve the glorious 1:1 scale treatment.

What I love about Wrightson is that he's the logical next step from Jack Davis' EC Horror stuff. There's an element of cartoon in Wrightsons artwork and that's NOT a detriment whatsoever because he has the same amount of mood as guys like Corben and the rest of the Warren/EC horror artists. In fact, I see a lot of similarities (Wrightson even did some underground work with Vaughn Bode which is some of my favourite stuff he ever did) and MAN is Jennifer still one of thr creepiest horror comics ever made

wiki to th rescue: In 1964 while attending Georgia State College, Jones met fellow student Mary Louise Alexander (later notable as writer Louise Simonson). The two began dating and were married in 1966. Their daughter Julianna was born the following year. After graduation, the couple moved to New York City but divorced in the early 1970s.[4]

There's a Wrightson interview in the magazine The Comic Artist issues 4 and 5, which you can access online, free of charge. The Issue 5 material starts off with Wrightson describing his childhood exposure to EC horror comics, and he mentions that he owned a copy of The Haunt of Fear issue 27 -- the next-to-last ish -- that he read obsessively for a year. I just skimmed through a reprint of that comic -- it contains one of the most disturbing Graham Ingels stories, "About Face," and one of my all-time favorite EC terror-tales, Reed Crandall's "Swamped!" (Also excellent work from George Evans and Jack Kamen on two less-notable stories.) I submit to you that the fantasmagorical artwork and events on the final page of "Swamped!" may have helped shape Berni's fondness for amorphous, gelatinous, obscene-travesty-of-life type monsters. In case any of y'all reading this comment are not familiar with "Swamped!" I am not gonna say anything further. :)

Wrightson's main DC editor was Joe Orlando, a former EC artist. Wrightson credits Orlando with having taught him a lot about drawing horror.

Yet another great video, guys! I met Bernie a couple times over the years! Have a nice ink pen skull and tombstone doodle and a sharpie Batman head shot that someone never came back for! Love that Werewolf in Swamp Thing 3 ,stands on hind legs! Got that one without a cover n I was in! Bernie besides the Shadow dc house ad also inked Mike Kaluta on Shadow no.3! Love your pics for stuff to look at! Never dull! Shout to Tom’s Kirby book, I’ve a big King library and this is a great addition! Also, FF Grand Design! Thanks!

In the radio series, the Shadow had the power to cloud men's minds to become invisible. However, in the pulps he used his large cloak to create camouflage to hide or avoid bullets. Thus, the Shadow's large nose is part of his disguise to fool anyone who got close enough to see his face. It is first depicted in the early pulp issue covers.

Such an overlooked artist by many of today’s industry. I have an Original copy of his Frankenstein that I found in a comic shop in upstate NY when I was in college in the early 90’s. I knew nothing about Wrightson at the time but I gladly spent what few bucks I had on me to get that book -lol.

When I saw Swamp Thing being crucified @7:14, it immediately brought to mind Savage Sword 5 where Conan is crucified. I looked up the dates and it seems Bernie did this in '73 (well, late '72. Swamp Thing 2 was published in Jan '73), where Big John and Boris Vallejo did the similar images in '75. Don't know if he influenced them or not, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Love copacetic comics! Couldn't find the "Ditko Unleashed" book ANYWHERE. I had never been there before but found it online, called and he immedialty knew what book I was asking about, and had it! Flew down and scooped it up, I still haven't seen it come through another shop. One of the best comic art books I own, and such an awesome shop! Great videos as usual guys! Become a routine of mine to wake up, get some food and watch the new Kayfabe vid!

I'm sure others will clarify this, or maybe I heard you incorrectly, but Weezie was married to Jeffrey Jones and they had a kid. He becomes Jeffrey Catherine Jones later in his life. Jones helps out in the art of that issue #9 with the alien in the spacesuit (looks like a Jones design to me) and, like the Fleagles, they all worked on each others' jobs when deadlines loomed.

I know this is off topic, but how the fuck did you get your hands on duo-shade board? I know they quit making it,is there any thing besides a computer that replaces it. Tell you a funny story, I've been drawing for 35 years, and I didn't know that it even existed until I got a Tim Bradstreet art book..it broke my fucking heart, I thought he drew every line..I have tried to emulate that lone work over half my life....i was heart broken...and incredibly stupid.
