Well the Dothraki are supposed to be unbeatable on an open field and Unsullied are supposed to mount an unpenitrable defense. Thats been known for centuries and that is the significance of their defeat, if they can be taken down so easily by this giant horde than strategy doesn't amount to much and they're in a lot of trouble. That's not dumb, that's how they fight and that's what was supposed to help in the battle. Unfortunately these aren't living opponents who can be intimidated by charging Dothraki and, and they are one of the few enemies the Unsullied cant out last. The moral was shot and chaos took over once they lost that first part of the battle. The castle defense was a last resort, the plan was to use the dragons to help protect bran and take down the Night King. It's too risky to fly out there until they located the Night King, because they learned from the loss of Viseryon. There are a lot of callbacks to earlier episodes which should also help explain that.

She already knew that. That was never the problem. The problem is Dany wants to control the North and the North wants independence. Like, what you're arguing and what the North is upset about are two completely different things. Dany helping the North was expected because Jon literally said Dany is their ally in the Long Night, of course she's helping, this isn't going to be any kind of shock or game changer for Sansa. The game changer will be if Dany relinquishes the North, or she personally sees something in Dany that she feels makes her a good queen in her eyes. But this isn't it. Why? Because Jon told the North he bent the knee to Dany in *exchange* for her help. ("I had a choice, the north or my crown. I chose the north.").

@@bullyboy131I don't get the immediate urgency for King of the North. Ned was Warden of the North under Robert's reign, and he was okay with that title. The North broke away when Ned was killed and they made Robb, King of the North in retaliation to Cersei.

They sent out the calvary because they didn't know what they were fighting. Also those men don't wait for nothing that has been seen everytime they fight. Plus, how were they going to be ready for an unrelenting dead army that doesn't stop for anything? They wanted to know what they were up against not wait until it was too late to know what was coming. Otherwise they would have told their cavalry to dismount and get in the lines with everyone else.

I'm with you Bernie they should've waited for the dead to come to them instead of charging into battle, 100,000 dothraki just gone!!! They should've launched ALL the catapults FIRST instead of having anyone charge head first into battle. It would've been smarter to attack within the castle than attack from the outside it would've bought them more time and they should've retreated a lot quicker.
