I have one of these $50 Bernzomatic trigger start torches. It has never really worked all that well. The gas adjuster never felt right and the pressure was often not consistent.
I dealt with this for a few years before finally taking it apart to see what was wrong... turns out it was pretty easy to repair.
NOTE: Attempting your own repair on a propane device is not advisable as it could lead to a life threatening malfunction. This unit is not meant to be serviceable and if you do this you do so at your own risk.

It will come apart without cutting the tabs off with a box cutter. A little more patience and you wouldn't have to tape it back together

Really eh !? I thought mine was glued together. That's good information. I will pin your comment to the top. Thanks. Edit: Maybe the new ones are different ? From watching it and from memory, the little pins that fit into each other were glued. I could be wrong, or maybe they have changed this so that they pop apart now, or some of them pop apart.

Did you actually take one apart without breaking the tabs?

I tried the gentle approach and results were the same, all tabs broke anyway! No telling how many millions of these are In landfills for the same problem with this super easy fix that would have kept them in service for years longer! Thanks for the help!

Thank you! You just saved me some $$. My torch is a few years old but very little use on it. I need to hook up a heating system and my torch cut out. This quick fix and I'm back in business.

Thanks... as rarely as I use this, it's not worth going down to Despot for another piece of crap. Because of you, (thanks again), I just went directly to vise-gripping/ screwdriver prying the plastic knob, then hacksawed/ tin snipped the plastic away from the brass knob. Viola! ...Flunky junk...

My Bernzomatic TS4000 stopped making a proper spark to igniter. I tried cleaning and adjusting the igniter but it did not fix anything. I observed a small spark at the spark point and I determined the dielectric coating was shorting to itself. I took a dab of enamel paint and dabbed it on the side of the electrode where the short was sparking. I let the paint dry. When I tested for spark, the spark was much better , and the spark was directed from the tip of the eclectrode to the edge of the tube, where the spark is supposed to arc. After this my torch stared to ignite properly. Getting quality products from mass production is becoming a growing problem.

I have used the 💩out of mine for 15 years, and it just started having this issue. Thanks in advance! I'll try this today. I have 1 arm so this torch is perfect for me to use, and there's nothing near like it on market today.

15 years??? You must have bought the unicorn of torches. Goodness. The first one I bought a few months ago last maybe 20 clicks. Done. I bought a new one recently and it lasted 5 clicks and failed. Absolute junk!

This is the best lighter this company makes, but can't find a replacement anywhere anymore! It's like they decided to get rid of the good one's they made, and replace them with shitty ones!

Taken mine apart do you know how the ignition is connected? Does the blue wire have to be soldered anywhere at the bottom close to where the black wire is attached? Thanks anyone

I had a different problem with mine. It wouldn't turn off completely as it continued to stay lit ever so slightly, not much but if it did go out, it would still light if I put a lighter to it so the problem was with the valve itself. If you think it's a bit of a pain to get the cover off, wait till it leaks. They definitely don't want you to take this part apart. Where the brass knob cap screws into the cylinder, they put green loctite on the threads then press two little divots on each side to lock it. I drilled out the divots then tried to unscrew it but it wouldn't budge. There's not much lip on the cap to grip with pliers so I put it in the vise and finally broke the loctite then got it apart. I expected to find an o ring or two but instead found that it was nothing but a regular tire stem valve that loosened up. I just took a stem tool and tightened it back up. So now this should last a long time unless the igniter fails, not sure if that part can be found but at least now it'll come apart easy if I ever have to replace the valve.

I can't remember why I took mine apart (and I didnt' make a video) but I have also experienced the hell of trying to get it apart just like you... just the other day I had my more simple torch stop working, and it was miserable to get apart as well... almost destroyed it.

If the igniter goes out use one out of a cheap disposable grill lighter. The ones with the long snout not the one that comes installed in a grill! They're basically the same other then the one in torches are of higher quality because they last way longer!

Was there a brass washer with a rubbery membrane in the middle to seal gas from leaking out from nob and if so how did you remove it?
@umpy3152
@umpy3152 Жыл бұрын
@@_RocketRooster Yes, mine had a membrane in-between the knob and the valve.

I've made it to the little valve but mine wasn't loose so if its the same size as one out of a tire valve stem I'm gonna see if that'll work. If not I'm gonna check if one thats in one of the little 1 lb fat green camping bottles. Oh the bench vise trick works well. That green Loctite didn't stand a chance when held by the mighty vise! Thanks! Your comment helped me out a bunch!

They are meant to come apart. You just need to know where the snap tabs are and it will snap back together,

Some of the videos show a rubber o-ring that seals to the tank, but my torch like this did not have an o-ring. Unless I've lost it. It seems to just have a flat cork washer at the contact point.
@JoelArseneaultYouTube
@JoelArseneaultYouTube 3 жыл бұрын
I think the o-ring that they are talking about is in the hose and not in the body of the torch. The torch has the little needle part that sticks into the hose end and pushes on a valve. There is a o-ring that goes in the hose end, usually held in place by a plastic bushing. The seal that you are talking about should never really see any pressure as it should all be sealed by the smaller o-ring.

Yes. THey are only crimped on in a groove (so that you can rotate them) but they work loose in time.
