Guts is not an archetype. He is not a hero, a villain or anything in between. Guts is human, and like all human he is simply doing what he can to come out of this with his humanity intact. But just like some of the worst atrocities committed, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Guts is not trying to save the world, he is trying to save himself.

He's no better than the things he fights, if anything he's even worse. Also, Ichigo is better in a good number of ways.
