I feel like this is the start of berserk big theme about struggling against fate. The blacksmith gave guts the idea of just getting better at your craft even though all of the horrible things have happened to him. All guts needs to do is swordsmanship and survive. Even with all the prophecies earlier and now the demons visiting and calling Griffith prince of the unforgiven. They already know the fate of what Griffith will become and due to the blacksmith a seed guts’ ideology of not giving into fate has been implanted in him. And now that I think about it guts being the only person Griffith can’t control has big themes later in the story about guts trying to break free from the control of fate. Anyways there is just a lot of foreshadowing and stuff in these chapters that I wanted to talk about coming from later chapters.

I love how he’s picking up on everyone’s intentions. Eclipse is going to be super rough on him but I think if he understands wylad and how that interaction affects Griffith he can process it a bit better than most of us did. Please let him know that 4-7 are some of the toughest parts to get through

I'm surprised you guys didn't talk about the glimpses we get just after Guts and Cascas conversation. How we see the Snake Baron appearing out of a forest, and the egg of the king flowing down a river. It shows us the forces moving around the world and reminds us of the future that we already know is set in stone from the first book. Events are rapidly moving towards their conclusion.

I think the point made about Griffith's new purpose is interesting, but maybe a bit unfair to Griffith to say that what he wants is to control Guts. I think Gtiffith isn't clear either to himself what it is he wants, whether to kill Guts or to get him into his ownership, or if he's in love with him. All he knows is he needs Guts to be around again. He has become the focal point of Griffith's life and ambition, Eclipsing (if you will) his old dream of conquest.
