I can't describe how grateful I am to Mori and Studio Gaga for taking the risk of finishing the story. It's still sad knowing that Miura isn't the person who is now drawing the story, but knowing that his apprentices and his best friend are the ones who are closing the book on this story makes me happy. Yes the story won't be the way it was now that we are heading towards the end, but I'm content with the fact that we are least getting an ending.

I'd assumed Griffith brought Casca back simply to eliminate him getting sucked halfway across the world every month. Sort of eliminating a point of vulnerability. I didn't think for a second he cared a bit about what it meant to her, or how she felt. Not trying to hurt or torture her, not trying to help or comfort her, just keeping a bird in a cage with him, to make sure he can stay where he wants to be instead of getting pulled away to her each month.

I guess this was the non-so-subtle point of everything: Griffith during the moonlight child state is mortal, thus killable Everything leads to this obviously grim point where Guts should kill a child which coincidentally is also his son, most probably in front of Caska. A nice closing to the cirle since his descent into madness could be said that started with the (accidental) murder of another child (RIP Adonis) Miura at its finest.

I think it's interesting that Guts was laughing while slashing at Griffith, like the situation was so unfathomable and he was so utterly useless at doing damage that it became amusing. That to me illustrated his hopelessness pretty effectively. He just kept swinging, and laughing...he actually went insane.

On paper, having Casca in a protected location removes Griffith from disappearing once a month. He is potentially at risk when in this form. Off the books, (imo that is probably wrong) the moonlight child's feelings are influencing griffith/bringing out his human emotions. As for Zodd, I think he's getting more annoyed with Griffiths entanglement with Guts for reasons of his "moral code". He might have a "kill them or don't, stop the games" mindset. Zodd is the employee bitter at the boss but still doing their job

About the beast of darkness not taking over against Griffith: One of two things happened. 1. It didn't take over on purpose (given the latest chapters) 2. It was a throwback to Griffith's incarnation when guts saw him again and forgot his rage. Maybe Griffith's human form is making Guts struggle to have enough rage and bloodlust. Maybe femto would make him go all out as there are no good memories with femto

@jakobrenner2230

1. Is the most likely one. I think the Beast of Darkness’ growing sentience has made it more cunning and it decided to bide it’s time. It is showing Guts that without giving his all to it, he lacks the strength to stand up to a literal god.
@PunishedSparrow

@@jakobrenner2230If Guts without the Beast of Darkness could slice a strand of Griffith’s hair off before he could phase out of the physical world (if that’s how that works), the Beast of Darkness might have been fast enough to lop his head off. But with Griffith gone without Guts fully giving in, the Beast of Darkness would never achieve his goal: full control. Maybe he really is biding his time on purpose… interesting.

My theory is now that Griffiths body is intertwined with the moon child, he’s vulnerable in that state. He may be essentially invincible but Guts has clearly had tangible interactions with the moon child whereas Griffith phases through his attacks. I think Griffith is made vulnerable in that form and that would be the ultimate poetic punishment: Guts has to kill the child of himself and Casca to defeat Griffith and achieve his revenge. It’s also a parallel to the sacrifice apostles make. Whether or not he does it, I don’t know. I would assume he would grow enough on his journey to not make that sacrifice but maybe he’s put in a position where he doesn’t have a choice. I left this part as a reply to another comment on here but it adds overall to my theory of a thematically poetic tragedy. Not to mention when his own adoptive father sought to kill him in order to “end a curse”. Honestly, there’s quite a few parallels that could be made between Griffith and Gambino. Both took Guts into their fold as a soldier and surrogate family member. Both had selfish desires while Guts admired and sought to attain their love. Both sacrificed Guts innocence for self gain and caused the insurmountable divide between them. They both sent Guts down a dark path to which he had to climb his way out of to find a new family and a new reason to fight. Guts now has to become that same father figure if he wants to exact his revenge or reject his destiny. He now must sacrifice his own son to achieve his goals. But who knows, maybe they’ll write something good instead.

That wouldn’t make sense, Richard is human & should be under the same spell as everyone else… but maybe Griffith can’t change peoples existing preconceptions. He was already a hero, his demon charisma only really amplifies his existing reputation; but Richard already knew him, his highs and lows. To Midland he’s the divine white hawk, to Guts he’s a member of the nigh omnipotent godhand, but to Richard, he’s just Griffith. You might not be able to hit god, but Griffith is just a man and men can bleed. We were explicitly told Guts could only kill spirits because he believed he could, why would Femto be any different

IMO, Griffith’s powers (minus the telekinesis), are tied to how he is perceived. Keep in mind that apostle powers and forms are tied to their grievances when they called the godhand, for example Wylad was an old coward, so he indulged in everything as an apostle. Griffith’s goal was to have a kingdom, but in that pursuit he always put on a good face, Guts did most of his dirty work like the assassination and his greatest strength was his charisma, which improves people’s view of you. When he sacrificed the brand, he had all that mystique ripped away and was viewed as pitifully as one could be. Additionally, when he became a demon, what is the first thing he did? He traumatized the two people who knew him on the most intimate level, the people who had a high opinion of him but a less grandiose view of him, making them in a twisted way think higher of him in Gut’s case, as the source of his revenge, making him obsessed but just in the opposite manner. Meanwhile casca was broken so it didn’t particularly matter. The only one to injure Griffith was Rickert, someone too young to really see him as someone grand when he was little and also escaped the eclipse, so his actions had no real effect on him. He just views him as a man he once knew, nothing more, nothing less. This is also why Griffith is going east, as Rickert is a loose end that he saw escape with Kushans, that should they decode the secret to his invulnerability, could actually kill him given enough of a concerted effort, especially in the hands of a certain pissed off swordsman. Edit: Another possibility is Griffith’s rizz speech from golden age being the key. “To be considered my friend one must have his own dreams even if it means clashing with my own” or something to that effect. It’s possible that anyone who doesn’t fulfill those conditions just straight up can’t hit him or just get pulled in by his charisma.

Interesting theory. Do you by chance have any further proof or this besides Wylad? His attitude was fearlessness which is the opposite how he was as a human but his powers were just brute strength and a huge monkey form. Not sure how this is connected to fear or being a coward. I think Griffith‘s thing was/is control. Controlling everyone around him to get what he wants. Not sure how this can be exploited besides Zod betraying him, similar how Guts left him after carrying him from mercenary to nobility. Or if we go further back, how the great King betrayed his sage, who probably was a central figure in helping the King get the Kingdom, and then the Sage was tortured, turned in to Void and took the Kingdom away from the King together with his wife, turning the King in to the Skull Knight.

@@Vargas_ShezarThe way I saw Wylad is that he was a guy who was too afraid to live a little and so when his time ran out, he became an apostle and indulged both in battle but in the sexual side too, raping women and being utterly savage without any inhibition to the point where his own men feared him more than his foes. Another example would be Rosine becoming an “elf” as an apostle and creating a “paradise” to escape her parents being horribly dysfunctional and an abusive father, essentially trying to create her world of fantasy that could have never existed. There’s also the guy from the pit in tower of conviction who despised the world and became an apostle version of a behelit described as an egg that would create the perfect world. Although admittedly it’s not a perfect theory as idk what the count’s wife being in an orgy cheating has to do with him being a slug man. As for the theory about control, it definitely is possible and intertwined with mine, essentially me seeing control through charisma more specifically. Admittedly I can’t speak much on void because of how unclear his situation is.

To me, the plot thread that I am most interested in following is that… Griffith cried. It’s been previously established way back during the eclipse that when a person becomes a disciple they shed their last tear and it becomes a behelit, but Griffith cried. My theory here is that that’s just the moonlight child messing with his reality manipulation (this might also have been what allowed Rickert to slap him and guts to even do so much as to take a hair from his head)

Don't forget that Griffith is also the Moonlight boy and I'm sure that guts and cosca both have figured it out that he is in fact their child. Here is my theory, Griffith still has immeasurable power, but being on the same mortal plane seems to set up the opportunity for Guts or Skull Knight to have the possibility of an even playing field. In order to defeat him, Guts will have to destroy Griffith's body, but more directly, the Moonlight Boy, thereby vanquishing Griffith at least from the mortal plane, destroying his dream. But he will have to choose between his own son and vengeance.

You... just gave me an insane thought. So there's a theory that King Gaiseric was an Apostle demon, or even a member of the Godhand at one point, but was betrayed when the Godhand created Void, possibly replacing him. Flora's violation of an ancient mage taboo had something to do with Gaiseric becoming the Skull Knight. Some believe that Flora split Gaiseric into two entities. One was the Skull Knight, and the other was Nosferatu Zodd. This separated Skull Knight from his inner demon and possibly his Brand of Sacrifice. What if the solution to freeing the Moonlight Child from Griffith will be that same type of magic, the act of separating the two from each other?

I think the beast held off taking of guts when Griffith showed up because guts' rage at that point was more powerful than the beasts rage. We know the beast gives guts power in the form of unquenchable bloodlust and rage. But if guts' very own bloodlust was beyond even what the beast could do, then maybe it just literally couldn't grab hold of guts at that time. Either that or the beast wanted guts to fail so he could fall into this despair and make it easier to finally take guts over.

9:03 damn bro I must have missed this moment or not full realized it... What if Casca tries to pressure Griffith with this. Casca is alone with him right now an she just learned a very critical piece of information she has all the tools to utilize. Something I find super interesting is Casca had already lost her mind when she gave birth so she never had a moment to really be with the child an name him. The moonlight boy really doesn't have any name at all. I think if Casca give him a name an starts speaking to him when speaking to Griffith it could play a big role in things if the story goes that direction. Casca is a headstrong woman an I could see her trying to manipulate Griffith. Ive said this before elsewhere but I dont believe guts will be alive at the end of the story, It literally started with his birth an has followed all ages of his life, its only right it ends at the end. I think the key is what he leaves behind. Guts has always struggled with his purpose in life but at the end he might realize the moonlight boy which is a result of his struggle against destiny was his purpose. A spirit of good nature trapped inside a member of the godhand which could in turn break the cycle.

So much to think about. I've mentioned in a previous comment how I think Caska, Griffith, and Guts may be a sort of twist on the Karpman Drama Triangle, but something keeps popping into my head that may be an underlying theme or aesthetic to the Godhand, particularly Griffith, but maybe Guts and Skull Knight, too. I'm leaning towards the Seven Deadly sins, but they seem to be vague. Particularly for Griffith. I keep thinking that Griffith seems very childlike. Like, in general, his sin is that he never really grew up and just wanted to keep playing knights in the courtyard his whole life. But I think Miura did a good job at representing duality in characters too. Griffith is an ambitious, machiavellian prick, very willing to do whatever it takes to get what he wants, but he also shows compassion for his subordinates, so much so that after his rebirth, he wanted to make sure that compassion was gone. Guts is pretty compassionless, never really having a childhood and was tough to crack when finding actual comradery. I still feel wrath and vengeance are up there as dark sides for him, but hatred may be better. Guts was out for blood with a purpose, but when he finally gets Caska back he makes mistakes that hurt her and he concedes and allows the new group into the party, largely as a way to hold himself accountable, but he also develops comraderie with them. He seems most consumed by hate, but steeled by his care for Caska. Skullknight might be better placed into pride or wrath. I feel the defining of the sins is a little more bibl-ey and not really exploring the full spectrum of sin and virtue that humans can experience. So, yea. Iunno, feels like an incomplete thought on my part, like I said, it just keeps popping up into my head. Especially when asked the question, why could Rickert strike Griffith? Rickert stopped to give him a chance on the hill of swords, granted, prior to knowing the whole story, but even after, he visits Griffith later for the slap heard 'round the world. It makes sense to me that Guts couldn't do much more than cut a single hair on Griffith because he hates Griffith. Demon + Hate kinda sounds like some Adam's Family/Hellraiser opposite interpretation shit. But Rickert. I wonder if Rickert still loves him, maybe even forgives him, but refuses to tolerate his shit. Maybe they're family. We don't know the origins of Griffith and Rickert yet. Maybe they got some Geiseric blood em. I mean, dude held the largest empire at one point. He probably got around so much that every day might be the birthday for 4 people directly descendant to him in some way (thinkin like Genghis Khan). Lol anyways. Yea, guess we'll see.

i saw a video where a guy made a full scale real life dragon slayer, the slab of metal he used was about 700lbs and by the end had only taken off about 100lbs at most. he added weight back on when he added the hilt and everything else so roughly the dragon slayer in real life would weight about 600lbs give or take and would be physically impossible to pick up. the hilts alone wouldn't even be able to withstand its weight so its not a matter of ones physical limitations, its about the weak point which is the hilt, lets play around and say that yes you could pick it up and yes the hilts doesnt bend or brake from the massive amount of weight at the joint. the very first swing would absolutely break it because whatever you hit will be smashed and the hilt with snap. the sword would have to be made out of a lightweight metal in order to be remotely plausible but in that case it wouldn't even be a good sword because it would be too soft and weak to withstand blows. tldr; a person made a dragon slayer and it was awesome but very heavy and not at all a plausible weapon for anyone for any reason.

my theory about zodd, 22:10. 1-griffith wants to end wars which zodd lives on. 2- zodd wants to fight the strongest warriors ever. 3- he once cooperated with guts against ganishka. I assume that zodd will go against griffith in the end and join guts not because he's good and wants peace, but because First: he wants to fight the strongest warriors, which are mostly griffith and the demons with him. Second: griffith wants to end wars so this is another reason for zodd to fight against him and the other demons with him. eventually I assume that zodd will die in a battle with griffith. honestly, this is not only a huge assumption, but also a wish, it would be amazing to see guts and Zodd fight together again just like against ganishka.

He's done a lot of bad stuff to the point I doubt whoever is still around on the protagonist's side will want him among them. Then again maybe I have it wrong and Berserk is still morally grey enough to allow for it. There were actually 7 chapters left of the Elf Island Chapter, not 6. It initially started as 6, but the team must have realised that they needed one extra chapter, so Elf Island ended with Chapter 371 and not 370. Also, I’m pretty sure that the Fantasia Arc as a whole isn’t over and that we’re just in a new part of the arc. The original message made it sound like Fantasia was ending, but I think they meant that the Elf Island Chapter of the Fantasia Arc was ending rather than both the Fantasia Arc and Elf Island Chapter were ending. It wouldn’t really make sense for Fantasia to be over as the physical and astral planes are still merged, so the world is still in the state of Fantasia. The Falcon of the Millennium Empire Arc (an arc all about Griffith’s kingdom) didn’t end until Falconia appeared and Griffith had his kingdom. As for what’s left of Berserk, I think that this current part of the Fantasia Arc could end with a confrontation in Falconia and Guts and Casca’s reunion (hopefully in this time Casca is able to confront her trauma and finally be able to look at Guts and give him a great big hug). We could then have one final part of the Fantasia Arc which would be the final confrontation with Griffith and the God Hand.
@seg162

I think saying that the Fantasia arc isn't over because the world is still "in the state of Fantasia" relies on an unwarranted presumption that the merging of the planes is going to/supposed to be undone.

@@seg162 Well I guess we will see in September when Volume 42 is released, but I’m willing to bet that we’re still in the Fantasia Arc. I kind of see Zodd's detachment of Griffith comes from him being disatisfied with how he's handling everything, the little trip to pick up Casca and focusing on the bakiraka now just might be the straw that broke the cammel's back. Now comes the tin foil hat: if he can overpower the beast of darkness and having partial control of the body of a Godhand, I somewhat want the moonlight child and Zodd to become allies, mostly because I really like the kid but also because that'd lead to the one thing Zodd could want, a fight with Guts.

He's probably getting tired of Griffith toying with them, developing the mentality of "either kill them or leave them alone, but stop constantly distracting yourself." He's getting frustrated that his boss is taking up time to fuck with Guts instead of fighting him. Way he sees it, Griffith is disrespecting a fellow warrior that Zodd sees as an equal. Sure he wants to kill Guts, but he wants to give the man a proper warrior's death, because that's what he sees as the honorable thing to do. Griffith is doing neither, and it seems like it's starting to annoy Zodd.
@BuffetCrayfish

@@NEETKitten Exactly. We've never known Zodd to follow any allegiances that aren't actively going against who he hunts. He didn't even care about the Eclipse save for knowing that Skull Knight was going to be there. I firmly believe with how often we've seen signs of Zodd and the Moonlight Child after warnings from Skull Knight that the only reason Zodd has been humoring Griffith is because it's the only direct path to SK. Guts is definitely a bonus and because of his marks being semi in sync with each other I think Zodd will either betray Griffith at the last moment for selfish bloodlust or strike a deal that he'll stand aside/assist and let them get to Griffith if it means a fair battle afterward. Shit is going to get crazy whether we're wrong or right, no doubt.
@NEETKitten
@NEETKitten 9 ай бұрын
@@BuffetCrayfish Oh yeah, we're definitely approaching the fan now and I cannot wait to see what happens. My own personal theory is that Zodd won't outright betray Griffith. Instead, he'll simply walk away. Abandoning Griffith and going on the warpath against *everyone.* Since Guts and Skull Knight are definitely going to be going to Falconia, Zodd will probably be waiting for them. He's going to do what he wants, and fight the big angry men with matching skull helmets, Griffith's orders be damned. And he will tear apart *anything* that gets in the way of his fight. I imagine we'll see Zodd kill Irvine, Locus, or maybe oven Sonia once everything starts going down. Hell, he might end up killing all 3 just to get to Guts. If we wanna go even further with the conspiracies, I think Griffith himself might just be another pawn in the larger scheme of the Godhand. They're using him to increase their influence over the world, letting him believe that he is their equal and hiding their true plans from him. He might be a pawn, but he's a very powerful pawn that they can't let go unchecked. Now I'm gonna go into full-blown speculation without any evidence and just running off of gut feelings. But I feel like the Godhand's plan might be to *kill the idea of evil itself.* They're using Griffith, bolstering and growing his power and influence to be used as a weapon. He's uniting the whole of mankind in order to stand against the idea of evil. Remember, the only orders apostles are given upon their transformation is "do as thou wilt." This includes the Godhand themselves. Now, these guys are *fully* evil, without any humanity left in them. Funny thing about evil though is that it's subjective. God might exist in the world of Berserk, we dunno yet, but the idea of evil is basically God to the apostles. Now, let me ask you: what could you think of that could *possibly* be more evil than taking power from God himself... and turning it into a sword against him? I have no basis for any of this outside of a gut feeling, but I think I could be onto something here even if I'm wrong about what specifically will happen. The Godhand have no hearts. They've been around for so long and done so much that the "gaping hole that evil will fill in place of one's humanity" has eaten away at everything until *only* evil is left. All it would take for them to justify murdering the very concept of evil is the reasoning that that's what they're meant to do as truly evil beings.
@BuffetCrayfish
@BuffetCrayfish 9 ай бұрын
@@NEETKitten Wow, that would be a trip seeing Zodd crush a bunch of bigger demon names to go AWAL, I like your theories a lot and honestly I think you're spot on that Griffith is a Godhand pawn and I think you're correct that the Godhand are trying to kill the idea of evil itself. It's a rebirth of the world that's even greater than the one Griffith brought with Falconia and one that's required in order to set the world toward its course. would be nice, albeit a bit too convenient, if those kushans were sent by rickert and the bakiraka to pick up guts and crew. I think the beast of darkness IS the sword. it came out of the sword in the last chapter, chains broken and all. the sword absorbs astral od with each kill and i think the beast is an extension of Guts' anger, his rage mixed with the od in the sword to create the beast. we've seen what spirits can do to living people, turn them into ghoulish creatures, that's what the sword is trying to do to Guts. the berserker armor turns guts into a raging maniac and the beast manifests, or tries to, each time because that's what the beast is as well. Guts will have to master the armor and tame the beast in his sword. to do that, he'll need to master his emotions and tame his own anger.

My therory for what’s happening next is they get captured by Kushans, but could be rescued by Silat, who could possibly join the party. I think this would be an awesome development, as he hates Griffith, and wants to restore honor to his clan. If, although less likely, Daiba comes along, he could also help ease the mage situation while Shreike deals with Guts, and could help mentor her as well. So much potential with the Kushan development. Now that I think about it, they’re both traveling with Rickert now, so it’s probably an even more of a possibility

I was just pondering Berserk, the horrific tragedy of the story in its entirety. I came to the realization that it could easily go the route where Guts gets his personal vengeance on Griffith, and the whole world just crumbles into chaos and strife cause of it. Guts actions turn Griffith into a saint, Guts is further demonized by the regular folk for "unleashing demons on them" The last panel of Berserk may be Guts sitting down to rest in the dark, his friends together wherever they may be, and Guts finally going blind as he sits there and ponders his life. His vengeance satisfied and justified but with the world as its cost. He who wasn't meant to live depriving others of the safety Griffith was building everything towards. All in all, classic tragedy.

As someone else pointed out, Griffith took Caska away not because he cared about her or anything else than just avoiding being dragged to the other side of the world once per month in a state where he's not exactly himself But this of course brings everything to a point where something comes up very clear: since Griffith mortal body is technically half-human and half-demon, when he's in the form of the moonlight child he's mortal and vulnerable (a similar concept was also explored in Inu Yasha) And this is where the juicy parts arrives: Gatsu will have to kill a child, which coincidentally is also his biological son, probably in front of Caska. Miura at its finest. That's the end of Berserk. No paradise to escape from, no redemption, no happy ending.

I think Casca, Griffith (and therefore the moonlight child) dying would actually be a fitting ending. Guts' major attachments to the Band of the Hawk gone, being left only with his new friends, and a future where he's finally free from Griffith's will (Griffith did essentially curse Guts' with those words "you're mine" at the start.)
