I have just realised now, after so many years, that at the end of the Eclipse there was a moment when Femto/Griffith had the chance to squash the escaping Skeleton Knight, Guts and Caska, but then he hesitated for a moment and let them go. Back then, I thought it might have been some kind of remaining feelings towards Guts; however, looking back at it now, maybe it was indeed the clairvoyance gained by becoming a Godhand that made him spare not Guts (who just happened to be there) but the Skeleton Knight, who still had an essential role to play in the Godhand/IoE's bigger plan! That would be a really fucked up foreshadowing ...

Simply the best volume. The connection of plot points regarding the behelit sword and shiva is just excellent. Note skull knight ate behelits for the first time in volume 16. In volume 13, the beherits are called "Ikai e no Yobimizu". That roughly translates as "drops of primed water leading to another world". Thats why it can actually cut through layers, ganishkas role in the story was handled fantastic. The talk of light and darkness between him and femto was very special. Ganishkas apostle form also makes sense now, he always had the fear of being backstabbed, understandable if even your own mother and son tried to kill you. Thats why he is fog, nobody could backstab him anymore, he became practically invicible. Volume 34 is a visual spectacle, a mix of world buildung, complex built relationships between humans and apostles, great symbolism and excellent writing. Simply godlike

Can we say that all of Ganishka's army (consisting of two hundred thousand soldiers, their horses and elephants AND a whole bunch of pseudo apostles) was converted into raw living demonic energy which in turn got used to open the way to Griffith's new world? Notice how every time the God hand achieves something big it always involves killing lots of people. Reminds me of Fullmetal Alchemist that way.

I like that this volume confirms that this story takes place on Earth, or at least a parallel Earth. Arabian peninsula, Africa and Madagascar clearly shown from orbit, not to mention the human deity Shiva being mentioned. Sooooo... alternate timeline, or forgotten history!?

I don't think Skull Knight actually fell prey to casualty/fate, remember part of the reason why the the astral and physical worlds were able to fuse was because Ganishka, Femto/Griffith, and Skull Knight were all at a temporal junction point where casualty is at its weakest and liable to change (e.g. Guts and Casca's survival of the Eclipse, the Slug Count refusing to sacrifice his daughter, the Demon Baby transforming into Femto/Griffith's physical vessel at the False Eclipse), it is just that Griffith/Femto was able to take advantage of that junction point like the Skull Knight and others have done in the past to create a major change. So I don't think the Godhand were planning/predicting everything with the Skull Knight since the beginning (or even The Eclipse, as remember the Godhand were surprised that the Skull Knight broke in and saved Guts and Casca) but more they were anticipating the Skull Knight due to his past behavior of showing up at temporal junction points, so Griffith/Femto were more taking a risk/betting rather than being able to see/predict the future. As for the exact mechanics of the Astral world and Physical world fusing together I don't think getting hung up on the details is necessary, basically all a reader needs to understand was that the explosion/expansion wave from Ganishka covered the entire planet and fused the two realms together (though like you said it probably didn't fuse the very deepest layers of the Astral world (and World of Idea) with the physical realm). As for humanity's fate it might not be as doomed as you think as remember there are plenty of benevolent beings (like the 4 invisible elemental kings) from the Astral world in addition to the many evil ones.

I think you are very close here... I think that during the eclipse, the skull knight DID surprise the god hand with his entrance. Now in this instance, femto anticipated that the skull knight would in fact to try strike at a similar important junction thus not exactly predicting the future, but using the past as an indicator

Humanity is completely screwed..the events of this volume are literally world changing and I don't see how they can push all those fantasia creatures back...it's probably not going to be possible. And if it's true that the rest of the God Hands are walking the earth now then yeah..good luck killing them all Guts. :| Also Griffith predicting that the Skull Knight will come and cut the astral realms with his Behelit sword while trying to kill him was pretty mind blowing. Being hyped for next volume is an understatement.

T'is just me, but i don't think Idea Evil has a plan. I think it just exists, and keeps doing what it always does, and leaves the planning to it's agents, like Griffith - so far the most proactive of the five. What Griffith wants? Well, i don't want to spoil it, but you'll see for yourself what else he got out of that whole battle soon enough.

If the realms are now ONE, wouldn't that mean that they can be slayed? Yes, they are incredible powerful, but magic has become more prominent throughout the entire world. If anything, can't we say that the god hand are vulnerable. And what happened to Guts' son? Is he no longer a physical being, only a vessel?

Great review and reaction Chibi. I really like your reviews for this series, it's my overall favorite manga. Seeing that you are just like three volumes ahead of catching up with the series I would love to recommend three mangas that I think that may really like you (two of them are my favorites aside from Berserk). I know that many other people are recommending you a shitload of amazing mangas to read, but it would be awesome if you can check out at least one of these mangas and maybe start reviewing it if you get interested. Zetman: This one i catched up recently, it's an ongoing series (320 chapters or so). It's a sci-fi/action manga with an incredible Berserk-level artwork. The story is great, characters are really likable and the action scenes are completly insane. There is an anime with 12 episodes but just forget about it becouse it has huge spoilers and kinda ruins a lot of stuff. Gantz: This was my first manga, it ended in 2013 (383 chapters). This one is a sci-fi/horror/action manga, the artwork is incredible as well, Oku Hiroya uses some weird techniques with cgi in some panels that are pretty sick (don't worry, most of the manga is still drawed by hand). Now, the problem with Gantz is that you love it or hate it I think, it's really graphic with lots of gorre and nudity to a Berserk extent (not so much rape tho), and in the first volumes you may get a bit turned off because the characters are really unlikable at the begining. But that's because the author does such a great job portraying the modern japanese society and the personality of the characters are so real that some people may find it not very engaging. But all of this pays off in latter volumes with one of the best character developments for a protagonist that i've ever seen. Vinland Saga: I just read a few chapters of this, but i can already tell you that it's great. It's about vikings and stuff, again the artwork is astonishing and the action scenes are incredibly fluid. It has zero fantasy elements so it is like a really long Golden Age Arc. Also, the main character reminds me of Meliodas lol. Well, I hope that you may found one of these entertaining enough, keep it up with the good work fella.

finally catch up now, after this volume, what I most wondering is what guts is gonna do. yeah, demon bound with human, they working together, they won the war. now the whole world need griffth, no matter how guts hate him, the whole world need him, even casca, maybe what griffth did terrible thing to her but from volume 13 to now I never saw casca hate him, instead she is kind of intimate on him。 So what guts is gonna face this situation.

I start this manga yesterday, right now I am on volume 11, this is really a great manga, not the best I have ever seen but abusolutely can be top 5 of what I have read so far, now the only problem I have is the art, just wondering with in the later volume does the art have any improvement? when I look back, I can see there is actual improvement from volume 1 to 11, hope it will improve more on later volumes.

Good thing you didn't spoil yourself lol anyway it's amazing because unlike the standard shounen this Seinen manga isn't afraid to "cross the line" and it isn't senseless gore and violence the manga tells a Fantasy story that reminds me a lot to a shounen is but it offers much more than the standard "friendship is magic" thing the whole story is amazing and gripping it is so amazing that I say its better than parasyte, Tokyo ghoul and even JOJO !!! If there is anything I would have done before reading berserk would be starting at chapter 9 since chapter 1-8 are basically spoilers lol
