The first “real” fingerpicking song I learned how to play and this version still trips me up…but wow the fact Bert was 19 when he wrote this is mind boggling!

The first Jansch tune I learned to play - still touches me fifty years on - brilliant guitarist and songwriter. We will not see his like again.

Overwhelmingly beautiful. I am crying. I have been a fan of Mr. Jansch for many years. But I am stunned and crying tonight. Thank you for posting this. 🙏💓

This is Bert Jansch in his prime. This is from a time when Norway only had one TV channel and it was still in black & white. The guy next to him is Finn Kalvik - a young man that had the same mission and status here in Norway as Bert in the rest of the world. But he only sang in the norwegian language. ( luckily ! ) I believe that they really must have felt that they were kindred spirits. They seem to have had pretty much the same laid back mentally. Their music also resembles each others. Finn said that he learned very much about guitar picking from Bert ! Finn Kalvik is still cherished as he still has a more quiet music career now. I love his music from the 70's. That goes for both of them.

Takes me back to London in the 1960s. In my own very personal view, no better place to be and I was blessed to experience it. It was downhill from then on.

This is absolutely wonderful. My goodness, what a joy he was and this song has always affected me. Oh for music like this today. Thank you for posting this uplifting delight. I find this piece of nostalgia quite touching. God bless you, and rest you in peace Bert, and deep gratitude for the pleasure you gave us. Also, thank you Finn Kalvik for your lovely, sensitive playing. The two guitars sound beautiful together. .

Such a natural effortless talent on guitar and what a voice singing his own tunes. Don't know who the young guy with blond hair is, but how privileged to play along side Bert, and he compliments him so well too. Full marks for putting this on for us all to enjoy.

@@paulamcgovern1418 Thank you Paula, and I'm glad you are enjoying that album. Recorded on a tape deck in a flat!! It's interesting to hear people like Al Stewart and Ralph McTell and others from that era, and hearing 'Janschisms' in their guitar playing. In the same way that you hear Davy Grahamisms in Berts playing. Al Stewart has said that his Clifton In The Rain was an attempt at playing like Bert. It's a great song and i have loved it since I first heard it decades ago. As to speed; he wasn't always consistent with his tempo. It was almost a mood thing on the day of a performance.
@paulamcgovern14183 жыл бұрын
@@trevorsneath4665 thanks again Trevor! You have a lot of great insight into these musicians that I also love. Al Stewart has never quite been on the others you mentioned to me. Another good Scottsman though! Here is another query you might be able to help me with: Did Bert and Dougie Maclean ever work together? Both wrote their own Caledonia songs. I'm curious, who wrote the 1st one? Gratefully, Paula
