"Another Day" is a song recorded by Paul McCartney in New York in 1970, during the sessions for his album Ram. Although it was the first single of McCartney's solo career, "Another Day" was actually written and previewed during The Beatles' Let It Be Sessions in 1969. It was officially released on 19 February 1971, with "Oh Woman, Oh Why" as the B-side. Neither song was included on the original pressings of Ram.
"Another Day" is written in an observational style reminiscent of "Eleanor Rigby"; Denny Seiwell, the drummer from the Ram Sessions, called it "'Eleanor Rigby' in New York City."[6][7] The lyrics describe the drudgery and sadness of an unnamed woman's life at work and at home.
Paul's wife, Linda McCartney, provided vocal harmonies on "Another Day". Describing his and Linda's distinctive harmonies, McCartney said "I wanted 'our' sound." Paul was deliberately attempting to create a unique McCartney style, a musical identity outside of The Beatles.[3] McCartney had decided to list Linda as co-writer of more than half the songs on Ram, and this decision extended to "Another Day." Despite her lack of a musical pedigree, he insisted that Linda had been an active collaborator, making valuable suggestions about lyrics and melodies.[8] Linda's credits as co-writer were later regarded as business manoeuvres in the post-Beatles legal matters.[1]
Matching the lyrical sense of isolation and social alienation was the unique sound of "Another Day." Studio Assistant Engineer of the Ram sessions Dixon Van Winkle said that Paul asked him to pick the single. With McCartney's blessing, Winkle mixed the song and pressed 100 copies for radio stations. "The next day I heard it on the air, I realized...we got carried away with the bass part...it pumped like crazy. But we never remixed the song, and Paul never said anything."
Although "Another Day" and "Oh Woman, Oh Why" were not originally included on Ram, some CD re-releases of Ram have one or both songs as bonus tracks. "Another Day" has also appeared on several of McCartney's greatest hits albums, including All the Best!. It also appeared on the Wings greatest hits compilations Wings Greatest and Wingspan: Hits and History even though the song was not credited to Wings and predates the band's formation. (wikipedia)
lyrics:
Every Day She Takes A Morning Bath To Wet Her Hair,
Wraps A Towel 'round Her
As She's Heading For The Bedroom Chair,
It's Just Another Day.
Slipping Into Stockings,
Stepping Into Shoes,
Dipping In The Pocket Of Her Raincoat.
It's Just Another Day.
At The Office Where The Papers Grow She Takes A Break,
Drinks Another Coffee
And She Finds It Hard To Stay Awake,
It's Just Another Day. Du Du Du Du Du
It's Just Another Day. Du Du Du Du Du
It's Just Another Day.
So Sad, So Sad,
Sometimes She Feels So Sad.
Alone In Her Apartment She'd Dwell,
Till The Man Of Her Dreams Comes To Break The Spell.
Ah, Stay, Don't Stand Her Up
And He Comes And He Stays
But He Leaves The Next Day,
So Sad.
Sometimes She Feels So Sad.
As She Posts Another Letter To The Sound Of Five,
People Gather 'Round Her
And She Finds It Hard To Stay Alive,
It's Just Another Day. Du Du Du Du Du
It's Just Another Day. Du Du Du Du Du
It's Just Another Day.
So Sad, So Sad,
Sometimes She Feels So Sad.
Alone In Her Apartment She'd Dwell,
Till The Man Of Her Dreams Comes To Break The Spell.
Ah, Stay, Don't Stand Her Up
And He Comes And He Stays
But He Leaves The Next Day,
So Sad.
Sometimes She Feels So Sad.
Every Day She Takes A Morning Bath To Wet Her Hair,
Wraps A Towel 'round Her
As She's Heading For The Bedroom Chair,
It's Just Another Day.
Slipping Into Stockings,
Stepping Into Shoes,
Dipping In The Pocket Of Her Raincoat.
Ah, It's Just Another Day. Du Du Du Du Du
It's Just Another Day. Du Du Du Du Du
It's Just Another Day.

I’ve heard her voice isolated from the other vocals. It wasn’t pleasant. With the magic of electrics, they made it beautiful. But it never affected my thoughts. If she made Paul happy, I didn’t give a rats ass about all the critics.

Paul was always the genius in the Beatles. I don't mean that to shit on Lennon or Harrison, but both of them had faults that McCartney didn't have. Harrison was far too insecure and not assertive to really prosper within the Beatles (he finally did post-Beatles) and Lennon...what to say about Lennon? I know that a lot of pissy people with chips on their shoulders love the guy but if I had to say one thing that spoils his genius songwriting is his fucking bad attitude. What an absolute drag of a guy.

I'm the same way! What I really love about this song, is that the lyrics are so melancholy and downbeat, but dammit the melody is SO catchy and upbeat. It's one of those songs that makes you realize in life how sometimes you have days that seem great and other days you feel like crap. The ups and downs in life is what makes the journey worth it. It's like happily skipping down the street and then a black cat crosses your path.

This song is one of Paul's highlights in many aspects: the poignant melody, the chord progression with inversions wisely woven by the bass line, the bar changes, the backing vocal arrangement and especially the wonderful lyric depicting so brilliantly the routine of a common working lonesome woman, which shows how talented Paul McCartney is, also as lyricist and poet. They've already found several cures for cancer. The problem is, they wouldn't make the pharmaceutical corporations millions of dollars so they're suppressed. Search Royal Raymond Rife and also medical cannabis. Avoid eating GMO foods that are contaminated with toxic chemicals. This is, hands down, my fave McCartney song. No screaming. Just a pretty ballad hitting, for me, the right chords. There's a downbeat sound I like. Sometimes downbeat gets me down, but when it's in a certain place, it works great. Like gray days. I'm wired a bit differently than others this way, but I prefer overcast, rainy days to sunshine. I like sunshine, but not a lot. And yet, there's some shades of gray that I absolutely hate.

Not according to a maintenance man I had met which does work for celebrities as Rihanna, Mariah Carey, McCartney and Starr etc. He said McCartney will not interact with him directly and uses his assistant to talk to him. When speaking of Starr, he said he is just a normal guy willing to speak with the common man. Seeing Paul in concert 2016 was amazing and Ringo of this year was also. Ringo is far humbler and more outgoing in my opinion though. Starr also gives the spotlight to every member of his all-star band. Paul clearly wanted the spotlight the entire time.

Every day she takes a morning bath, she wets her hair Wraps a towel 'round her as she's heading for the bedroom chair It's just another day Slippin' into stockings Steppin' into shoes Dippin' in the pocket of her raincoat It's just another day At the office where the papers grow, she takes a break Drinks another coffee and she finds it hard to stay awake It's just another day Choo-choo-choo-choo-choo-choo It's just another day Choo-choo-choo-choo-choo-choo It's just another day So sad, so sad Sometimes she feels so sad Alone in her apartment she'd dwell 'Til the man of her dreams comes to break the spell Ah, stay Don't stand her up Then he comes and he stays But he leaves the next day so sad Sometimes she feels so sad As she posts another letter to the sound of five People gather 'round her and she finds it hard to stay alive It's just another day Choo-choo-choo-choo-choo-choo It's just another day Choo-choo-choo-choo-choo-choo It's just another day So sad, so sad Sometimes she feels so sad Alone in her apartment she'd dwell 'Til the man of her dreams comes to break the spell Ah, stay Don't stand her up And he comes and he stays But he leaves the next day so sad Sometimes she feels so sad Everyday she takes a morning bath, she wets her hair Wraps a towel 'round her as she's heading for the bedroom chair It's just another day Slippin' into stockings Steppin' into shoes Dippin' in the pocket of her raincoat Ah, it's just another day Choo-choo-choo-choo-choo-choo It's just another day Choo-choo-choo-choo-choo-choo It's just another day

It's been years since I had heard this song. I just discovered a number of nuances and details in the arrangement that never heard before. Not to mention the composition skills. How he takes several melodic lines that each could be part of different songs and blends them all seamlessly into a perfect unit. You may like it, or not. Taste is a matter of taste, but the man's skills are superb and undeniable.

Old comment but a good one! Ive always noticed and appreciated how Paul could weave multiple songs into one either by overlaying melodies that when isolated could sound like a totally different song or songs like Admiral Halsey and Band on the Run that morph into totally different songs seamlessly while remaining a single song.... if that makes sense!

Just Another Day, is one of Paul McCartney's most heart-touching songs that I recall from high school in 1971, the Vietnam War draft was still happening and it was my future after graduation, listening to Just Another Day back then would always lift my soul. The draft worries would simply disappear as a lost myself in the lyrics of the song about the love that Paul had for his wife Linda. That kind of Love was what a lot of guys that were looking to be drafted could only dream of, having someone to write letters to and coming home to after our obligatory tour in Vietnam. Paul truly loved Linda, and I believe that it broke his heart to lose her, unfortunately for him, it also weakened him as a man leading him to later married a much too young woman that was just after his fame and money.

As a child I was delighted every few months by the arrival of a new Beatles song, a song I would love deeply and imbibe into my soul. I was so sad when my mother explained what "the Beatles split up" meant: They were not going to make any more music (together). Some months later I heard a song that grabbed me, hypnotized me, and held me deliciously captive. I loved it the same as any Beatles song, more even. There would be more (Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey, Band on the Run). It was almost a decade later when, upon listening to a radio special on the new hits compilation, Wings Greatest, that I realized it was none other than Paul McCartney.
