BERTRAM YACHTS - WHAT ARE THEY BUILDING NOW?

With over 30% of all my viewers coming from the United States I thought it was about time I featured one of their Iconic builders; BERTRAM Yachts!
This brand is practically a household name in America and not only has a wonderful history but is also building some very interesting models that should assure a prosperous future for the company.
I was hoping to visit the Bertram stand during the forthcoming Palm Beach Yacht Show, but since filming this video my trip has been put back to the end of April - when I look forward to re-visiting the country that has brought the world such great sports fisher yachts!

I had a 25 Bertram sportster with Yamahas when I lived in Key Largo. Later a 28 fly bridge. Loved them both!

After the purchase, from Feretti as stated in the video, Bertram was brought back to Merrit Island, Florida for a short time before setteling in Tampa, where they still are. My 1996 was built in Miami, where they have not been since then.

Thanks for featuring Bertram. They are an unsung American builder. I knew at one point they had been acquired by Ferretti but did not know they had been sold, again. Always learn from your videos. BTW, thanks for the shot of Dilbar. She is such a beauty.

Hi David, thanks for all of the awesome content! Seeing this video about an American yacht builder makes me want to see an - in-depth - video about Delta Marine in Seattle. They seem to be the only builder left stateside that is capable of and actively building over 50 meters. (Trinity and Northern Marine are gone, Christensen and Westport stop at 50m, Palmer Johnson left for Europe, Burger only does small yachts, etc.). It would be amazing to see a video on Delta with the level of detail that you put into your Numarine video. They have a rich history that started with building commercial fishing vessels for the Alaska fisheries. I know that Seattle is a long way from your normal stomping ground, but I'm just putting it out there. Perhaps you can get them to sponsor a video to give you an excuse to make the trip. In the meantime, keep up the awesome work! Thanks again!

David, thank you for providing such a smooth presentation on this United States of America product. You may have heard of Bell Boy boats from the 70's and before. They were a wonderful piece of boating history, and one of the designers of transition from wood hull to fiberglass. They are true collectables, very micro-popular in Australia. I nearly purchased a 25' fly bridge, dual-helm cabin cruiser a few years back... Please keep bringing your refreshing presentation of yachts for sale, and the designmanship behind them. Love the history!!!

Another great video.. I see the US luxury tax as a joke, and to me it is theft. Just because you have the money to buy certain items, they shouldn't be allowed to tax you more on those items. To me, that's discrimination.

Interesting company history but why did you skip the 90's when they built the best boats before the Ferretti purchase, after which they ruined the styling and where is part 2 since production moved back to Tampa, Florida ???

You should check out Viking Yachts and their incredible fishing boats, I think they are still an American owned and operated company based out of NJ. They have the capabilities of producing a 92ft sport fishing boat that looks amazing.

Hi John, unfortunately I've had to put the trip back a few weeks. We have just signed the Central Agency on a really beautiful 46m Leopard Sport, and I shall be flying over to film it. Unfortunately by the time the paperwork was all signed it was too late to get everything together for the trip.

Not to be too political, but the U.S.A. actually lost tax revenue by passing the luxury tax. And Bertam is a prime example of why. Businesses that cater to the successful, allowing them to enjoy the fruits of their success, pay corporate taxes, and their employees pay income taxes, and property taxes. Passing that tax put a clamp on that industry, greatly reducing, or in many cases removing all profitability, thus removing the businesses from the tax rolls as they either reported losses (and owed no taxes), or closed there doors. And the reasoning for the tax was purely punitive, to punish the successful for enjoying their success. A lose, lose, lose, situation.

Calling Bertram products "Yachts" is a dazzling insult to the Yachting community. It is akin to calling the Ford Pinto a luxury car.

"A yacht is any sail or power vessel used for pleasure, cruising or racing. A yacht does not have to have luxury accommodations to be a yacht, in fact many racing yachts are stripped out vessels with the minimum of accommodations."
