Miracle actually rerolls the hit with a -10 penalty, which means a 30% death blow against Aegina only has a 6% chance of hitting in reality. While still not incredibly reliable, it's way better than I initially gave it credit for. Giving her the Pegasus brace or the Dusk Charm in particular can be very funny, especially if you do something risky with her right after the 5 turn save. But yeah, her wind growth is atrocius and she really needs the hit bracelet to approach any decent reliability in killing lategame enemies, even once promoted.

I really feel that Elbert deserves S: his availability, bulk, movement and provoke to crowd control dangerous enemies with make him the most reliable unit in a game full of chaos and unpredictability.

Elbert is basically a second clifford with arrowbane, better avaiability and no ruby training requirement. Definitely S tier worthy.

36:27: If you don't know Burroughs can move and shoot through a glitch, which if I recall is just unequipping and equipping his weapon, which makes this way less annoying and the fact that he can help take out those annoying Dark mages is extremely helpful by yea he is a bit gimmicky but he is a lot better then the other sorry ass excuse of units in the B tier.

Christine with a Rapid Crossbow and Raijin Arrows is actually a surprisingly good damage dealer. And I found that you don't really need to to put her in much danger to pull it off? Her crossbow skill is going to be decnt even without promotion and crossbows have pretty good hit overall. You can set up Aims by moving her into range after enemies have taken their turn, pretty reliably delete one of them and then escape to safety. The placement is still about right tho.

Christine with the right crossbow is on a short list of units that can reliably one-round KO in the endgame. Problem is she's borderline useless on maps with a lot of terrain, ballistas, or basically anything that farts in her general direction

Berwick Saga's treatment of characters is so sick, it's such an incredibly designed game minus the really big flaw of being so RNG heavy that it really feels like you need to save scum to not miss out on a really large majority of important stuff. Oh, and the absence of descriptions for food and furniture. I played for probably 6 months, entirely restarted the game 3 times. I don't really mind the terrible hit rates because it's very fixable and it's fun to fix and having some uncertainty is fun + it makes high hit rates feel more rewarding.

Yeah I definitely agree about the food and furniture. There aren't many things about Berwick Saga that I feel could be improved, but I would definitely make it such that likes/dislikes and stat boosts are very clear with food, and actually telling players what furniture does (otherwise they would just skip them completely like I did). Other than that, some UI and QoL changes too probably.

@@FNMRoldy I'm finally playing through Vestaria Saga II ( haven't played 1 either) - It's also very good and doesn't have those same flaws, but I still think Berwick is the more interesting game. I'm missing the mixed turn system and capturing (which is in the game but only to a very small degree). I also miss having a hub town between maps.

Idk, maybe I'm overrating Pallas Leia's 32 might and 90 hit and underrating the investment Enid needs, but I would never put her below most of the other B tier units, in fact even in the same tier as them. Fire's accuracy is genuinely just insane for this game, she will have no trouble hitting low AS enemies, which is exactly what magic is needed for in this game, whereas I find both Percy and Aegina have major trouble with that. And btw, Perceval has 9 base skill with a 60% growth, vs Aegina's 6 and 50%, which I don't find particularly better. The major difference here is Dire Thunder basically giving Percy double the skill up proc chances, which does mean he'll reach 20 pretty reliable, but after that... I'm not so sure. Never managed to get him to promo in my first playthrough, just like Adel. Anyway, against a level 7 Enid, which is the lowest possible level of her promo and the lowet base Fire rank, she'll have 90+ hit at base with a Fire and Commander bonus, and 100+ with Pallas Leia, with 4x the might of either Thunder spells and +10 hit when compared to even Percy with 20 Thunder skill. With a Vanishtone and the right unit positioning she can 1-shot the bridge lancers with 100% hit, which is way more utility than any of the other units in the B tier provide imo. Not to mention that she basically just 1-shots a lot of the annoying high defense enemies in the game, just by moving into their range, with no drawbacks that other delete buttons may have to consider. Ofc, she's nowhere near Dean or even Volo in that department, because of their much better base performance, availability and bulk, but I consider her a valuable addition of pure firepower to the team, which I can't say about many of the other units in B, and most those even higher. Idk, I'd put all the mages probably at the top of B+ tier/bottom of A, since they all have their advantages and niches they can be pretty great at, Aegina can do a lot of valuable chip against high def units for the majority of the game, Enid is a nuke, and Percival is good at chip for less time than Aegina, but with the addition of great performance against archers. You say that magic isn't very good in this game, but idk, I'd always rather have magical damage to rely on, then chip at Armor knights' shields or overextend Dean, especially when they have pretty good hit in the lategame. Oh, and also Enid is actually S tier, because she can 1-shot the final boss, if she reaches 10 magic, you can rig a Focus Chant to 1-shot the final boss.

A lot of Enid's performance rests on whether you allow yourself to rig her 2 levels with Magic, so I understand why people value her less than I do, since in the worst case scenario it will take 16 levels for bracketing to catch her up to 5, even with the Magic potion. So rating her really depends on what you value the most and your particular style of play.

What's interesting is that both Derrick and Ruby are pretty much exactly where they should be, by design. Derrick is more of a lore character than an actual unit, so rather than training him, you're just supposed to permanently recruit him to see his unique events and ending. His permanent recruitment is pathetically easy, just get his happiness to 3 and promote another unit you were probably planning to promote anyway. You never even have to field him. Ruby meanwhile isn't meant to be valuable in and of herself, but promoting her is the only requirement for permanently recruiting Clifford to avoid having to pay his outrageous mercenary cost. To be clear, she turns out...fine. Nothing special, but fine. That said, it is worth noting that her permanent recruitment (one of the prerequisites for her promotion) gives you access to a side chapter, same way that Faye's does, which does somewhat make up for all the EXP you had to give up to get her there (though obviously not all the way).

29:35 I know this is kind of late but there are a lot of dark magic wielders within the final chapters which yea...her silence is massively useful but even so B+ is the best ranking in my opinion as she is a lot more useful than the sorry excuses within B tier...and reminder she is a healer and if I recall she doesn't die...no she get saved by Paramythis which is nice but yea still B+ tier.

34:52 Enid is more then worth training since she gets one of the best orbs in the game that just destroys any enemy and is much easier to train in the first place thanks to the Lady Sword, even so, A or B+ is the best she can offer as yea it does depend on RNG, if you get her promoted fast...she is A tier...if not B+. Why not B? Well to put it bluntly again...she is a lot better then the sorry excuses within B tier.

So, the thing with Volo is that he's just so good in the early to midgame. He's pretty much your best unit for a good portion of the game. If you want to do cheap damage, he can do it, if you want to preserve some good weapons and use something like bronze sword, he's good with it, if you want to delete an enemy unit - he's the best man for this job. He kinda falls off in the late game, but who really cares when he can just do everything you want from the Jeigan type unit. I usually put him just behind Volo

The only reason why you would want to use Ruby is for her dad, if you don't know how to recruit Clifford, you need to promote Ruby and honestly that is her only good use. Sure you can hire Clifford but holy cow he is expensive to hire and those bills will add up, so yea as much as it might be a pain in the ass, you will have to use Ruby if you want Clifford, especially for the final maps.

Training Ruby basically gets you a stronger version of Alvira with Adept, plus you get Clifford. Training her is a pain but you essentially get two endgame capable units for the investment

@@ChillCoyotl And let's be real, you don't bring Ruby in the endgame unless, for favouritism, there are so many better units to take into the end game that offers so much more unity or just kill things better than a trained Ruby...even her own Dad is better due to his amazing weapon stats and solid skills which again reminder...you don't have to invest into him at all, while Ruby, you have to invest a lot into her in order to make her good which other character just outclass her and are objectively less of a pain in the ass to train...well besides Enid but she is more than worth it.

@@royalhistorian5109 Berwick gives you plenty of easy chapters in the early game to train weaker units. It's not that hard. I've beaten the game 4 times and probably the easiest endgame I ever had was having a trained Ruby alongside Clifford.

Alvina comes already with a very decent prf weapon, the same stats as ruby once promoted (if not better), 3 free points in magic (not much but will help her survive late game dark mages, i guess that counts for something) and also already comes with adept and a better medium shield skill stat at base. I eventually just gave up on ruby and replaced her with alvina, and alvina was basically a filler unit for the rest of the game. Honestly just train ruby and bench her once she promotes, just think of clifford as her "real" promotion.

@@FNMRoldy 野兎の蜂蜜ソースを食べさせると待ち伏せができて、短剣の命中率も高めなので敵の引きつけ陽動がほぼ無傷でできますし、ボルトナイフで軽傷の敵を量産できます。

Ok just now actually getting through your list. I was going to disagree if you put Sherlock at the very very top tier but putting him in A because of the ramp up is so insane. After just a few chapters he comes online and is suddenly a monster for the rest of the game to the point that I had to often deprive him to help other characters grow. Archer is a tough category because all of the archers in the game are super good so the near universal agreement that Sherlock is the best character next to Dean seems a bit excessive... Some of the crossbows seem awesome. I always felt I was missing out by not investing in Christine, but overwatch seems more important. Aim is extremely useful but Sherlock hit rates become a non-issue and makes her pros less relevant. Elbert is S, I don't feel like the promotion is so important for him that it's worth knocking him down a rank. It is really frustrating for him more than any other character I used just how much work it takes to get him promoted, but he's incredibly good regardless. Provoke and arrowbane are such good skills, and the combination of being a provoke tank with arrowbane is wild. I... like Ruby. Lol. She is important to invest in even if she will never be one of your best characters... but she will be a pretty decent mounted character and most importantly she's one of the characters that gets the Vantage food bonus and is good with it. Arthur is definitely S, easily one of the consistently best characters and an essential deploy for the majority of the game due to the importance of flourish before you have better methods. Czene is triple S. Best injury inducer, essential chest and door opener, great mobility which is so important in this time pressured game, gets vantage from food, has tons of unique weapons for various purposes.Honestly I'd say the biggest downside is that knife management is a huge pain since she has so many weapons and the durability is bad due to multi hitting. Agree on Kramer being a pleasant surprise. I mostly invested in him due to his additional mission but like... arrowbane is just so good. Faye... faye faye faye... She falls into a weird place for me. She's a lot like ruby in that there's a good reason to invest in her, but mostly it's because of her extra map and story. She's legitimately a good unit if the growths pan out (or if you rig the growths especially). But, I always felt like I needed to cut her from the roster because other characters were more essential or more needy in terms of investment. I was really worried because I had read people complain about "if you recruit her she's a force deploy for the final map" so I always felt this tension between wanting to recruit her and see all of the content vs. fearing that she would be a liability... but she was always a solid unit when I used her and I wasn't at all disappointed to have her in the final map over anyone else. She's the best user of the killer swords and ladyswords and the unique crit swords from the blacksmith. I strongly disfavor clifford and Sherpa and volo. Unit slots are limited, and having super strong characters who can only kill, not capture PLUS being very expensive means that any time you're deploying him you're just stealing from yourself and your characters. Clifford has exclusive access to lances, though, so towards the very end of the game he's worth deploying just due to the gear economy. By the time I was finally ready to use a slot on him... he was statistically worse than Elbert even in damage output. Faramir also falls into a similar place for me. I really really wanted to use him for his non-mounted mobility with celerity, but there was never really a good slot for him when I knew I needed to be training Faye. Aegina is awesome and Blizzard is the earliest reliable way to induce injury which is very very high value. If it weren't for the Bolt Knife and then Percival joining with arrowbane and mercy I would have deployed her for the rest of the game. Magic is great, all of the mages are really good. Larentia is busted with flying and mercy, essential deploy for every map as soon as you can use her. Enid is pretty good, but a mixed bag. Hit is so important so any boost you can get is helpful, plus her personal magic is an instant delete button for most enemies. Paramythis would be SSS if she had better availability, but when she shows up she's awesome. A mounted healer is so good I wish I had it the whole game... just thinking back to that one map where you defend retreating people and your healers are so inhibited by the sand that you wonder why you deployed them in the first place because they'll never catch up to the action before they need to start retreating themselves. Plus she's one of the most stylish characters. In summary, the essential characters are anyone that help with inury and crippling through the whole game (So Arthur, Czene, Larentia, Percival, Ageina and Sherlock to some degree with that bow) Plus have unique mobility or added utility (Czene's mounted and unmounted mobility, ability to unlock, Larentia's flying) and even better if they're good combatants (all of the above.) Even BETTER if they get vantage bonus from food since it's totally busted. Czene and Larentia fall into the largest number of the most important categories so I would say they're the best characters in the game. Other essential characters provide something unique defensively or as a counter to really heinous offense... so like Elbert with provoke and arrowbane, Percival and Kramer with arrowbane. A few characters are just monster damage dealers which... while I devalue that a little bit I do have to acknowledge that there are times when you need to have someone that can just nuke critical threats while other characters play around training spear and setting up captures. Sherlock, Dean, and Arthur are the best of these characters. Dean and Sherlock both have to be given some downtime to leave experience for your other homies, The last tier of essential character are characters who have promotions that add an additional map to the game when you reach it. Kramer, Ruby, Faye, Sylvis for some reason. These are never your absolute best characters but they are all good and fun to have in your team. These characters mostly go in upper "eh, I mean you literally just have to grow them" tier... with Kramer being on the high end and ruby/sylvis/faye sort of fighting for the middle of "eh". Healers are a mess, really tragic category. You have to have at least one so pick your poison. They're essential but we don't like them. Thennnn there's every other character, who also is probably pretty good but don't have these critically important properties of the units I've just listed... therefor the have almost no relevance other than when you HAVE to deploy them for a sidequest... which I'm including Axel in due to his unique mobility feature.And finally there's Derrick. Not much to say there.

@@naman2972 For me, he wasn't a death machine, but I can still see him going up to S tier based on my latest playthrough. Having furniture to boost his capabilities is great, I didn't use those at all in my first playthrough. My original reasons for him not making it to S tier are his over reliance on Gram (making me not want to use it because it'll break) and his relatively middling stats on average (can't hit hard enough, can't survive well enough). But playing ranked means he gets promoted earlier than normal (actually a pretty big boost) and benefits from all the furniture. He could very well be S tier, but I would still put him below the other S tier characters IMO.
