Thankyou very much for the recommendation of Bayramoğlu Döner. We were staying in the Sultan Ahmet area & asked our hotel reception for guidance of how to get there. They suggested a Taxi as it would be too difficult to get there by ourselves & that we should try somewhere local instead. This ironically gave us a challenge that we couldn't resist. With phone navigation, we just took a state ferry to Üsküdar. Then a 2 minute walk to the bus depot & took a bus to Bayramoğlu Döner. All very straightforward. The doner, the soup the salad & service were all 11 out of 10. It was all a delight to the senses so thankyou again. If you could add some more of your preferred choices of eateries, that would be great & then if we are lucky enough to go again we would try them out

In Taksim area - go to Damak döner. In Besiktas - go to Hakan (order Tavuk döner) In Çemberlitas - Makarna Saray In many places in Istanbul - Günaydin is TOP. I was a local for nearly 3 years, and was introduced to the places above by locals :)

I will have to agree with you about Kasap doner. I tried their Uskudar location few years back and it was just ok and definitely overpriced. And I had the option to choose between 100 grams or 200 grams. It's very disappointing that the staff would pull such tricks to make more money. I also noticed an overall increase in prices for everything from food to hotel rooms. Looks like the inflation has hit Turkey pretty hard. I hope the income levels have been adjusted a little bit as well.

Avoid restaurants around Taksim Square! It doesn't deserve a two star review. It should be one star at the most! The prices at Bayramoglü Doner have increased greatly!

Considering the inflation going on in general in Turkey is normal the prices everywhere have increased, they cannot afford keeping the same prices when the ingredients to prepare everything have dramatically increased, and in Bayramoglu for that high quality döner I didn’t mind paying what we paid. I bet before was more affordable, but times change and you as citizen and I as resident, we know how much prices in general have skyrocketed in Turkey. On the other hand, kasap döner, as I also said on the video, I gave them 1 star for cheating people and bad flavor on the meat. Definitely a great advice about avoiding restaurants in Taksim, specially the ones on Istiklal street, however, there are also small local businesses that are around the area and deserve more exposition. We will do our research to find out more about those little places around that area that truly deserve more recognition 🤗

I just watched your video of what is the best Doner in Istanbul. I would highly recommend trying "Uludag Et Lokantasi" in Florya, I think you will be amazed at the taste of the Doner, my favorite is the Iskender kebap plate. If I had to eat a last meal, I would eat that dish at that restaurant. Also,😋 located by the water (Marmara Denizi). Please try and maybe do a video about it.

Ask the restaurant. They are the ones that can help you with it. And yeah! You’re so right, just as a tip, if you eat soups here, be careful, Turks tent to put tons of flour to all soups specially in restaurants, so if you want to eat a soup, just ask the waiters if is gluten-free or if they have an option without any flour.

In the early 2000s my (Turkish) wife and me went for a trip to Greece. My wife tasted there for the first time Greek doner which is made from pork. Pork as something that is very rare in Turkey, as it is forbidden for believing Muslims to eat it. I never forget that a few days after our return we passed by some cheap döner places in Üsküdar (they do not anymore exist now) and my wife said suddenly: Same smell as in Greece, I smell pork ! We will never know whether this was really the case. But personally I never understood the fascination of many tourists with cheap street food in Turkey. It has cheap ingredients, it does not taste, it is unhealthy, and indeed many tourists get sick. What a wonder ! If I would be a tourist I would definitely prefer the more classy restaurants. There is the Turkish cuisine that is worthwhile to taste, and unless you go to a restaurant serving alcohol, which is expensive, I cannot imagine that is too expensive for the average visitor from Western Europe.

Lesson: never eat at touristy places. I had the same experience at the same place in Istiklal St. I was even charged more. I also lived in Lisbon for a while. Same thing happening over there. Never eat at touristy places. Quality is low and prices are high. Try to find places where the locals go and always ask for the menu before ordering.
