Do yourselves a favor and follow Bery's advice. We were just in Istanbul last week. We went to the local stores just outside the Spice Bazaar, like she suggested. The prices were marked, no need to bargain, and they were much lower than the Grand Bazaar. Everyone was friendly, and no pressure sales. The only thing is that they really would prefer you use cash.

an advice from A Turkish college students to me; shop during the journey outside Istanbul, rents are expensive just like in all major cities, so the markup has to build into their prices. As I love the 100% cotton Turkish towel, perfect for travel, it comes in different weight/thickness. I bought it in the tinny town of KAS on sale, Izmir Bazaar. I also went to a locl outdoor market in Pamukkali, my tour guide took a break to prayed at the local mosque, so I got to walk around & shop. I bought 12 different towels and end up shipping it in Cappadocia before I arrived in Istanbul. In Istanbul, I only bought different teas/coffee, tea /coffee maker sets which were light weight to pack up in my luggage. Everyday, i looked for "Borek" the phyllo patry with spinach+cheese, different shops made it slicely different, it's so good.

Thank you for the update! Also take into consideration that this video is almost 3 years old 😀 so during that time prices change a lot plus the inflation going on in the last months, is normal that things won’t cost the same any more. But still that area is way more affordable than inside the Grand Bazaar or Spice bazaar 😀
