Bessie Jones had one of the greatest voices, greatest hearts and deepest knowledge of anyone I ever met. Her love of the natural world was only exceeded by her love for human life, and all of it comes out of her through that incomparable voice. She stayed with me in NYC and also in CA a few times, and in both places she could find helpful herbs and seeds and roots even walking down a sidewalk. Listen to her singing whenever you need to connect with what is real and to keep your heart from breaking.
