Fancy combining your running with some biking and kayaking next year? Questars have a new series of adventure races for solos and teams of 2-4, for a maximum of 5-6 hours long, but you can finish whenever you like. Waterproof maps and kayak equipment are provided, and bikes can be hired. The set up is very welcoming, friendly and supportive to beginners, and the navigation is very straightforward, so give this a go for the first time in 2024 - it's really fun!
The Questars Adventure Race Series has been the mainstay of the UK Adventure Race scene since 2001 and the format has been designed to be as flexible and inclusive as possible, to enable people to participate irrespective of ability or experience. I went to the Cotswolds event in July 2023 and teamed up with Questars co-owner and top adventure racer Kim to give you a taste of these super fun multi-sport events are like. I forgot how enjoyable adventure races are, I had a super day out with Kim cycling, paddling and running to the different checkpoints and filming this for you - I highly recommend choosing one (or more!) of these events below next year:

Have you tried a proper competition running orienteering event? It’s like doing trail running but doing the crossword at the same time. You don’t get a map until the actual start of the race, time starts then you get your map. Interesting fact - did you know it’s illegal to do a timed race on a bridleway. I remember when I used to mountain bike orienteering. If a part of the route included a bridleway, you had to time dip at the start and finish of the bridleway so this time on the bridleway was removed. This is how the organisers got around the law - no timing (racing) on bridleway so you could then use is

Yes, did orienteering at school, I wasn't terribly good at it! But it is fun :) I had no idea timed races are illegal on bridleways...how does that work on literally any ultra or trail race then? Surely that can't be a thing?

@@wildgingerruns Hi, The issue with brideways is when using a cycle. Some organisers probably do not know the illegality of racing a bicycle on a bridleway. As I said the way around it was to stop the timing when on the bridleway so technically not ‘racing’ then starting the timing again after. So the organisers in your video if they kept the ‘clock running’ on the bridleway if a person was cycling would technically be breaking the law 🤔 ⬇️ “As long as the appropriate authorisations or permissions have been agreed, cycle races can be held on all highways and RoW, except for bridleways (1988 Road Traffic Act section 31).” Sadly it is the law. 😓

@@bikepackingadventure7913lots of laws are not followed. I don't think it's anything anyone is worrying about.
