The manual says that the Component video input is limited to 480i/576i. Current Onkyo receivers like the RZ50 have the same limitation (not sure about Denon or other brands). This would be a bummer for anyone wanting to hook up older consoles like the PS2 or Wii to get 480p via official component cables. HDMI adaptors exist, but they typically don't work as well.

I have the VSX-LX305 and the issue you describe about having to unplug and wait in order to get the home menu to respond does occur on rare occasions. I solved this by putting in a smart plug and naming it stereo. I now "unplug" it by saying "Alexa, stereo off." then waiting 10 seconds and "Alexa, stereo on". This has the same effect without me having to unplug the unit physically.

While I’m still loving my Denon x3600 (I got a sweet deal on last year) admittedly it wasn’t my 1st choice. I had my heart set on a pioneer but there was simply no current models in stock at the time, especially not within the $800-1200 range. I loved my old pioneer AVR so Im a little jealous but at the same the Denon is very user friendly, full of features & the app/calibration is straightforward. A big disclaimer about 4K 120hz is that, at the moment, video games are the only format supporting that. I was under the impression that 4K films were displaying at 120hz. Alas, it’s not true. I got off the phone with Pioneer customer service rep and that’s basically what he educated me on.

A possible HUGE difference to Denon/Onkyo/Marantz/others is the 3 Preset buttons on the remote. For family reasons in a multi use setting, getting Sonos, Switch and PC gaming AND HTPC use "just work" is a major acceptance (even likeable!) factor for some of us 😅

Are the crossover settings overridden during the Dirac setup? I'm just wondering because I'm sure it uses a full frequency sweep. Hello Techno Dad, how do you compare the Pioneer to your Denon 6700 and the Onkyo rz50 if you have heard it by now ? Mostly I'm wondering about sound quality and not just the extra channels. I have the Pioneer vsx lx303 since 2018 and am looking to upgrade. I know all of these have more power than my 303 and my new Paradigm speakers seem to need more power to drive them. The Denon 6700 is on black friday sale right now for $1899 cad which is cheaper than both the Pioneer and the Onkyo. I know this is because it's discontinued but I still am running only 1080p and not planning on upgrading that any time soon. Also I know the Denon does not come with dirac , should this be a deciding factor? I am far from being an expert or audiophile but I do love my movies and surround sound (5.1.4) 110" projector. While pressing the Home button you mentioned getting black screen with "please wait..." Is this resolved with software updates or what?

The crossover limitation has me concerned ONLY because of everybody else labeling it as a dealbreaker. Is it really THAT big of a deal? I want an RZ50 but the stock issues are completely nuts. I can’t really wait much longer. Also the THX cert on the Onkyos, how much weight does that really carry in comparison?

I mean, not really.

This is also my concern. I still have the Pioneer Andrew Jones SP towers and surrounds driven by a Pioneer LX 103! With no doubt this would be an upgrade but I have 2 small Atmos bouncy house speakers for the “height” (if you can really call them that).. so I have them set to small in my current AVR, and the rest set to large. Crossover set to 80, for whatever that’s affecting. I guess the small speakers? How do you guys think the 505 will perform with my current speakers? Or vice versa.. how will speakers handle the 505? Thanks! This review was really helpful!

I wouldn't be concerned about crossover at all as you have equalizer settings for each speaker separately and if autocorrect doesn't catch it you can still adjust manually

Techno Dad sir, question...do most av recievers now have the auto calibration microphone,i had a nice onkyo 7.1 av reciever ago,it rocked
@MrNicodemus112 жыл бұрын
Hey Techno Dad, not sure if you still have one of the later Sony models but I have this issue with my RZ 50 onkyo. I have all my sources connected to the receiver PlayStation 5 And Apple TV 4K. So before with Sony tv you only had hdmi signal standard or enhanced now with the J series they have standard, enhanced, enhanced Dolby, enhanced VRR. Is setting earc port (hdmi3) to Dolby enhanced the only way I’m able to allow the Apple tv to display Dolby vision because it used to just work fine with just enhanced. Since this port is Dolby enhanced I notice that my PlayStation 5 games have this lag even in game mode unless I switch back to enhanced but then the Apple tv won’t display Dolby vision only HDR. I’m so confused. I had to now use hdmi 4 for ps5 and set that port for VRR and leave the earc port with Dolby enhanced but I do feel like there’s an audio sync delay. I have the Sony A80J with latest firmware and literally just bought it yesterday since the A80K doesn’t really bring any major improvement
@TechnoDad2 жыл бұрын
Hi! I just got the A80K in for review and I’ve been running it in. I was planning on making a setup tutorial on your question already. If it’s anything like the J series, you may need to use a different port.
@MrNicodemus112 жыл бұрын
@@TechnoDad btw I figured out the audio sync delay I went to Sony tv settings and changed A/V Sync to Auto you can find that setting under audio output. Looking forward to your next video as you always bring up really informative topics about home theater.

You also cant turn off the internal amplifiers when you do use external power like you can on the 3700. Not to mention the 3700 provides the proper voltage to the pre-out. Sounds like you are just in love with Dirac, but in your last video you said a manual calibration beats it. I own both and Dirac is better for music 2ch but for HT its not the game changer you are claiming, all in my opinion. The receiver is also buggy when you use the menu button? This thing is not worth the cost. thanks for the review.

Thakns for watching! I made the title Best AVR for Xbox Series X because it is. I've had the X3700H and it won't even run 40 Gbps through the fix box or the fix chip on board, it will only run 32 Gbps. And, you are limited to one HDMI 2.1 input as opposed to the three HDMI 2.1 inputs on the Pioneer. Yes, I did say manual calibration was much better (because it is) but Joe's calibration does cost about $1K depending on your system and takes upwards of 6 hourss and then add another $200 for the software to allow it. So you're spending another $1,200+ for that service, which is almost the cost of another AVR. When it comes to Auto calibration, Dirac Live is much better than Audyssey. I don't have to go in and tweak settings after Dirac like I do after Audyssey runs. Bottom line is that Audyssey needs a revamp.

I still love my Integra 3.4 better. It has it all for $200.00 less than the Pioneer. Please do a review on the integra 3.4.
@TechnoDad2 жыл бұрын
Sorry, it doesn’t have the same features. The LX505 has 11 channels of processing and your Integra only 9. You would have to get the 5.4 to run 11 channels and that goes for $2K. Sound wise they should be very similar of not identical.

I little background on me. I've been working as a salesman and installer for over 30 years I've watched everything change over these last 30. I've installed almost everything out there. Since Dirac live came out built in to a receivers, that's a game changer. Granted the Pioneer has more channels but in my space I don't need them that's why I said I love the Integra 3.4. The store i work at we sale Denon,Onkyo,Arcam,Sony ES, Yamaha, Pioneer and of course Integra. I wish I had a man cave like your. But I'm not that lucky. Love your videos keep it up.

Hey Techno Dad, I've never seen a video from you addressing the audio delay when running atmos through Earc from the series X. There's any number of forum pages on xbox and dolby and avsforums on the subject. I live in Ireland, so this or the LX305 or the RZ50 or the N7100 aren't yet available in Europe. My question is this: If I go XSX -> LX505(or any of the new models) -> LG G1 55, do you get the audio delay with atmos and do you still get the snappy picture repsonse of going straight to the TV and then Earc the audio?
@TechnoDad2 жыл бұрын
Hi! There's a good reason I have not made a video about it. I have not experienced an audio delay using eARC. I've used the Series X > LG E9 > Marantz SR7015, Series X > LG E9 > Denon X6700H, and Series X > LG C1 > Marantz AV7706. In all these setups, I have yet to experience any audio/video sync issues due to eARC. I'm not sure why I'm so luck, but I can't talk about it if I haven't experienced it. At least if it happens I can explain how I can fix it, but it hasn't happened.

hate to say it but this AV has too many issues to cost $1500. My old Yamaha had independent crossover settings 10 years ago. It wasnt even an Aventage. Until someone figures out why HDMI 2.1 is so buggy on AVs, i feel like running PS5, PC or Xbox direct to the TV and than out to EARC on AV is still, easily, the best way to go. While id love Dirac, not worth trading in my aventage for this, or the onkyo which lacks the dirac live bass control multi sub tool for their dirac implementation. Looking like 2023 for me.

Great series of videos on the LX505. I have an 11 year old Pioneer elite and will be upgrading soon. I am really considering the Denon X6700H, as it has all the features I want except Dirac. So I have 2 questions; 1) is Dirac worth giving up Auro3D and other features? 2) Does the Pioneer sounds as good as the Denon X6700H? Is there a noticeable sound quality or power/dynamic difference between the two? Thank you.
