I picked up the REP Fitness AB-3100 a few months ago. Not on a baller budget, so I didn't get the AB-5200. I just went to the garage and replicated your highly scientific shake test experiment on it and it seems to be more stable than the 5200, lol. Anyways, I love this bench. I kept my crappy flat bench to see if I thought that it might perform better than the adjustable bench in the flat position, but I haven't used it at all since I got the REP bench. For reference, I used to own a NY Barbells FID bench, and the gap between the pads became a deal breaker to the point that I downgraded to the flat bench. This bench has 5 incline settings which are: 18, 36, 54, 72, and 90 degrees. I wish that it had the same 6 incline positions as the 5200. The 90* position I find to be too steep to really be of any value and never use it (the 85* would make more sense). And if my programming calls for a 45* incline I have to choose between the 36* or 54* setting.

This video is coming at a great time for me. Thought I’d mention that REP’s bench is currently out of stock - but Griffin Fitness has almost the same adjustable bench (they have to have the same OEM from somewhere in Asia) for $355.50 not including shipping (shipping to my location costs an extra $75, so $430.50 in total, vs. an estimated >$500 for REP’s). Main differences are the arm under the bench’s “back” is not beefy looking at all vs. REP’s (it’s straight-up flimsy looking tbh), and there’s no slim piece of metal at the “head” to help keep the bench more stable when stored upright. Even still, I might opt for theirs + their stainless steel “Deep Knurl” power bar clone, although REP’s flat benches are tempting too simply because I don’t really do a lot of adjustable bench stuff yet. I know you had a good review of Griffin’s version of the flat bench, and I’d get that for sure… if it was in stock. T___T

Night and day grip from the Thompson pad to the rep pad. Mine also shakes a good amount maybe not as much as yours. Only way to get it real right it's too tight to adjust.
