I'm in the same boat, I built up a 1090 adv r. The bike is a beast but in a way I think it wrecked adventure riding for me. Things don't get easier when it's loaded up either. I'm test riding a 790 adv r on Tuesday. It's perfect on paper I got my fingers crossed.
@thomasrosenwirth70354 жыл бұрын
With your size the 790 R Rally would fit you perfect. I am 176cm (5‘8-9“ I guess) and the 790 R fits me perfectly. Enjoy it, its awesome Bike, especially offroad.

Man! I really wish you would have not made this video. Now your going to have me wanting this bike. I thought I wanted a KTM690R but I’m 6’2 and this bike looks like it would be a perfect fit for me. Love this video brother! I saw the other video you posted cause it was in my KZbin feed and that bike definitely mashes off road.

What, you ride!? Oh man, this is your next bike! The 690 is still going to be a lot more agile off road. But I swear with a bit of confidence this bike will go almost anywhere. I'll have a proper set of tires on it soon and I'm excited to see how much better it will be.

Thanks for the review. I ordered one in August and it just came in a few weeks ago. I live in Northern, WI and we are buried in snow, so I won't be picking mine up till spring. I will have a 300 mile ride back home with it - do you think it is bad for the motor to break it in at almost all highway speed for the first 300 miles? I could trailer it back, but dang - I want to ride it.
@TheOffRoadAdventureChannel4 жыл бұрын
The manual doesn't have the normal jargon about varying the speed, but I'm sure it still applies. Tough call, maybe you can hit some trails between stretches of freeway!? Lol.. congrats man!! Let the fun begin
@sean51704 жыл бұрын
I rode my 1090r home on the freeway. Every 5 or so miles I would down shift to third and slow down to 50mph, then roll into the throttle and up shift back through 6th gear.
@jeffflick25734 жыл бұрын
Not a expert but from my understanding I'm pretty sure KTM breaks their engines in before they sell their bike's. I think you should take it a little easy for the 600+ miles before the higher HP & performance comes on.

How tall are you? I’m 6’,3” and many of the UK reviews complain about the buffiting from the short windscreen, but you seemed happy with it! This is really the deciding factor in choosing the 790r or an Africa Twin. I just can’t drop $15k on a bike that’s miserable at freeway speeds.
@TheOffRoadAdventureChannel4 жыл бұрын
I wasn't bothered by it, but it does hit you in the face. I'm 6'4". However I'm now completely happy after adding the small Puig wind deflector seen in the last video. Best of luck deciding.

Your absolutely right about the quick shift and cruise. I'm struggling to come to grips with paying extra as well. A 5 min job to plug in the computer and click a box. Ah well I guess we can either bitch about it or build a bridge and get over it. Cheers for your views. Take care, coming at ya from Down Under. NZ.

That's crazy KTM wanting more money for turning cruise control & quick shift on! Love KTM's but that's a tad greedy on their part!
@M0T0Noob4 жыл бұрын
Not trying criticize, but the results of decat on this bike aren't great. Their are plenty of good stock exhausts, tunes, and ecus available for the stock setup. decating does not help this bike whatsoever according to any of the major manufactures of aftermarket parts (rottweiler, coober, etc) just trying to save you from a performance drop on your brand new toy. Treat your orange unicorn like it should! :D

I put on Akrapovic muffler from the dealer. My girl wanted to ride on the back and watching some of the reviews the stock muffler gets a little warm. I didn't want her to burn her leg and the Akrapovic comes with carbon fiber protective guards on the pipe going to the cat. The muffler bracket is welded and stock muffler uses a strap and is wider and heavier. Akrapovic doesn't change the sound much it's very quiet I think it looks better than the stock. And the big plus it doesn't heat up much.
@devildog87684 жыл бұрын
Just bought one I was also worried about break in period. Unfortunately I have hit it a few too many times the bike made me do it. I believe the bike wants you to ride it like you stole it. I haven't taken it off road yet and it's a shame I live in Southern California with great off road riding from what I hear. Only been living here for a few years and trying to find people who want to ride. So if anyone lives around San Diego and Riverside county hit me up. Thanks
@sethmccartney77504 жыл бұрын
I could not agree more with your assessment of the options. It should all be turned on. It is still not a cheap bike. You should not have to pay more. Noticed KTM is doing that with all there new models. I think it is crap. I am looking at this or the 690 for a purchase in the very near future.
