24 Did I win a cool hat for Christmas? 🙂 $29k is a hell of a deal!! I'm a student pilot (10 hours), bought a Zenith 701 with a Jabiru 2200 and love it. You're useful load is a bit more and I paid more for mine. Avid is a great plane. Just to throw out there that even if someone has big money to drop on a plane, it's sometimes best to pay $29k, cut the teeth and move "up" to something with more hp, room, useful load, etc. I know a guy at my airfield that has a 3 year old, gorgeous, Husky - with something like 40 hours on it. Sits in his hangar, scares him - understandable, it's a lot of plane, something to work up to.

That was the number!!!! But, someone already guessed it.... I think 29k is a great deal, too. The Avid will get you in and out of any backcountry strips that you want, and it is a great/inexpensive way to get involved in backcountry flying.

I went through the same tough decision when I had a Kitfox IV. Great little planes, but they are just that, too little. Now we're in a family hauler that performs like a cub when light. Cessna 172 taildragger with all the STOL mods and big engine, 300' takeoff & landing without even trying. Best of luck selling and with the next one!

@@OneAV8 I had a model 4 with the "bubble" doors and with two normal size guys (170-180lbs) we were VERY snug. The Model 5 or newer is a few inches wider.

I'm glad you have enjoyed our adventures! You won't see many for sale online because of the limited number still flying. When you do see one, jump on it! There is a Avid Flyers facebook group that is pretty active, and sometimes an owner will post one for sale there.

26 - You thinking of leaving experimental and going certified? Only asking because the Taylorcraft is a great option to achieve what you’re after without breaking the bank. Especially the later F-19s or F-22 models. Even the 85hp BC-12Ds perform great!

@ that Funk with 150 HP is going for 17,500! Again, was just underscoring the possibility MOSAIC might be as attractive as EAB. But who knows. The Avid is great but you clearly yearn for more torque and elbow room like the big dogs you’re hanging with. I totally get it. That will entail more cost. Life is about comprises and ROI.

Don’t ignore the vintage certified airframes. Hopefully the new FAA MOSIAC rules soon to be implemented will make them even more affordable. Funk, Cub, Aeronca and so forth. They generally seem to be 1/2 the cost of a comparable EAB.

Close! I’ll have to measure the width. It’s smaller than a model 4 Kitfox. Several people on the Avid page and forums have added bubble doors.

@@OneAV8 The Avid fuselage is 39 1/2" wide at your shoulders. Actually the Kitfox 4 is the same width, but has more head room. The Kitfox 5 and newer models are wider. I've widened the last 4 Kitfoxes and Avids I've worked on 3" - 4" wider. If the plane isn't covered, it's pretty easy to do. Currently rebuiulding a C model Avid and it will have a Jabiru with the liquid cooled heads. And the fuselage will be about 3 1/2" wider as well.
