A lot of them in the middle east are that way, much nicer and cleaner. I went through Dubai once in business class, the business class lounge was its own floor of the entire terminal, including their own boarding gates so you didn't have to mingle with the economy class peasants (I say that jokingly, I only was in business because my job paid for it). First Class had its own exclusive floor also, I can only image what it as like. I've also been in Doha numerous times, haven't had to ride a bus in though, always been lucky to get a normal sky bridge. The Qatar Airways lounge was wonderful, can't even fully describe how much better Doha and Dubai were compared to like Heathrow, JFK, LAX, etc. Jeddah however, that was an awful airport, worst I've ever been to. I think they've built a new terminal since then though, so maybe it's improved.

Me too with the wows. I know a whole lot more about film making than piloting, I have to say that was a very nice little film; a gem. I think it is the best one you've ever done. As a song writer, I really appreciate a well crafted ending whether in music or film. It is often overlooked, but we can see here why that is so important. Hmmm. Like a landing a 74? It's all interconnected. Thank you, Kelsey.

What a great video! I just did a three day road trip where I could make up my own schedule, and that was hard enough. Balancing your rest/alert cycles is really challenging in a high pressure environment. Throw in unforeseen factors, range anxiety, inconsiderate people and one leg that I completely failed to plan properly and it all adds up to a hard trip. 24 hour layovers would have completely messed me up, and yeah I'm familiar with the feeling of thinking it's breakfast but discovering that they are serving dinner. Three more days later (three 12 hour days) and I did it all again in reverse. When I was younger I became aware of the Inuit saying "food is sleep" and it's been so helpful over the years: If you are tired but can't sleep, you should eat. If you are hungry but there's no food, you should sleep.

I am grateful to you for bringing us along on your travels, and your talent for illustrating just how complex the life of an international airline pilot actually is. I have gained a whole new level of appreciation for what you and your colleagues do on a daily basis. Thank you for your dedication and professionalism, and for your humility and respect. Wishing you a safe and happy 2025.

Your airline is great that they don't hot bunk you with other crews. Sleep deprived and jet lagged. It's a miracle that there isn't more airline accidents due to fatigue. Thank you for the ride.
@mikoto76933 күн бұрын
One of the ways the airline industry avoids accidents from exhausted pilots is by giving them the right to call up ahead of time and tell the airline that they are too tired to fly. Obviously the pilots can’t get away with doing that too often and abuse the system but since it’s so difficult to actually become an airline pilot in the first place they tend not to abuse it to get out of work, so usually the system works out well. There are a number of things that the airline industry does differently in the name of safety. Ground crew can accidentally damage an airliner and so long as they were following the rules and it was genuinely an accident they don’t get fired or punished. Why? So they will report the accident instead of trying to hide it, which could result in a plane crash, because they fear being fired. Similarly if any of the ground crew spots something damaged or wrong with one of the aircraft and report it, that aircraft is then grounded until a mechanic or pilot has checked it. Though since mechanics are onsite 25/7 that doesn’t take long. And it’s still encouraged even if the worker is mistaken and the aircraft is fine. Again because it’s safer to check it than dismiss the worker because s/he isn’t an expert or mechanic. (Although in truth after awhile we really start to learn what an intact airliner looks and sounds like enough to get a feel for when something isn’t quite right. I’ve done it myself.) It actually makes what’s happening at Boeing actually kind of weird because the rest of the aviation industry I’m familiar with absolutely obsesses over safety.

@@mikoto7693 I think it's because people inherently view flying as more dangerous. Thus the whole business model requires them to demonstrate safety as much as possible, which results in such good numbers (as opposed to other modes of transport, where we don't give as much of a sh*t)

I really appreciate you taking the time, in between everything going on, to give us a glimpse into your world as the impacts of one delay for you is so much more impactful than it is for 90%+ of the the travelers (for passenger flights). Kelsey, these are my favorite videos of yours. You do such a great job of filming them. To be honest, I wish they were a bit longer. I’d have zero problem watching an hour of this stuff, mostly the in-plane footage and commentary, but I realize with company rules and aviation regulations that’s hard to do. I appreciate you taking us along these amazing short looks into your life as a pilot. The production quality just keeps increasing, and I’m all here for it.

This is not your usual hotel room debrief! This was great...maybe the biggest production you've made. Thank you. I'm sorry your schedule did not work out, and I really question the safety of a plan like that this. Still, you had 4 crew on that one leg, and once things went awry later, the company let you come home. You did the best you could, and thanks for bringing us along.
@00shivaniКүн бұрын
me too.. the rest periods dont seem practical. pilots need to meet a quota of rest hours to qualify for flying, but if the hours are impractical it's still not safe. if you sleep the first half of 24 hours rest, then the second half youre awake, then when it's time for the flight, youll be getting tired. kelcey makes it look easy but theres been incidents and accidents due to wonky rest schedules, though since they met the "technical" rest quota, it wasn't scrutinized enough.
