I know stock is limited right now but I reached out to Decathlon earlier in the week and they mentioned they should have a bunch of new stock coming in any day now and then through out December (in Canada and the US). Also a note for those wanting to use the jacket as a belay jacket, the zipper is two-way, which is pretty essential!

The best part about decathlon for a french person is that everybody buys there (there's this one backpack they make that I see at least once, if not multiple times, every single time I take public transit), and it's practically the default outdoors gear brand, so the second hand market is amazing. I've gotten the trek 100 for 8€ and the trek 900 for 30€ and love them both. I'm glad to see that it's available for you and kind of hope that it might make the outdoors more accessible for people!

I purchased the truck 100, the review said it runs a size small so being a medium slim I figured a large would be fine. I put the jacket on it seemed to fit really nice. Nice! I was very impressed with the quality and I highly recommend the jacket. However, when I tried to sit down or ride in a car I realized the jacket was very restrictive and I was only wearing a t-shirt under it. If you're a medium, just understand you may have to go up two sizes in order to get something that you could wear a sweater under. I tried to exchange but because I've removed the tags on the inside of the jacket they refused. I'm not going to trash this company or the product. I think it's outstanding and the jacket was very beautiful and well made. It's just disappointing that they can't get the sizing down. My advice if you buy this jacket, wear a few days. Do not remove the tags, sit in it, wear it in your car and try wearing it with a sweater on. If it doesn't feel comfortable and it's too restrictive, exchange it and get the next size up.

What would you choose for cold weather: the Trek900 + 170g merino baselayer or Trek100 down jacket + a 250g Merino long sleeve + a 170g merino baselayer? first option better insulation and lighter and second option is more versatile?

Been testing mine for a couple of weeks now and have to say it really is an amazing jacket for the price. I spent an icy night up on the UK'S 3rd highest peak and it kept me toasty warm all night. The details on the jacket are simply brilliant for this price bracket, the neck baffle keeps all the heat in without being tight around your neck, the overhanging coughs fit snuggly around skiing gloves and the pit zips are great for releasing a bit of heat when you are moving around a lot. And it compresses down amazingly for such a warm jacket. It gets a solid 10/10 from me. In the UK you'd need to spend close to another £100 to get anything comparable!

I’m a big fan of synthetic insulation options. Fleece feels fantastic and is super warm. They also tend to also be way cheaper than down and maintain their performance if you accidentally get wet. In my opinion that gives it the edge in a survivalist scenario.

I purchased the MEN’S SYNTHETIC MOUNTAIN TREKKING PADDED JACKET - MT100 HOODED -5°C £25 $30 less expensive and 80g heavier For me synthetic is the only way to go in English wet/cold climate And for long expeditions in sub-zero dry/cold, I also prefer synthetic, as your jacket gets damp from body perspiration, and after a few days down begins to clump and loose loft I am very pleased with the performance of this jacket I obviously would recommend this jacket better than the down

I too think that its amazing that you, who you make lots of videos around gear, try out cheaper products from Decathlon. It makes trekking/hiking in the winter a lot more accessible. Because when i see tents that come close to 1000$ its kind of demotivating, if you dont have that kind of money. I tend to fall for the thought that you need good gesr in order to be safe/have a good time. To a degree that is true but well its also nice that there is good stuff for cheap. As you said decathlon makes great stuff, whenever i need clothing for sports (running, trekking, diving, ...) that i want to last for long i go to decathlon, never had anything break/rip. Love your videos, keep it up :)

Was wondering your opinion of the simond if you have any experience or what you think of it, thanks keep up the hard work

I’m confused between the 100 and 900. The 100 has a higher down fill, but the 900 is rated warmer. How does that work? I want warm living in MN.
@JustinOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
The power of the fill (e.g., 600 CUIN vs 800 CUIN) isn't the primary factor in determining warmth. The power of the fill affects compressibility and weight. The primary factor for warmth is the thickness of the insulation/down. The thickness then corresponds to how much down is needed to fill up that space. So Your best bet is to look at the AMOUNT of fill and the power (assuming the company properly fills their products). For instance, 10 ounces of 800 power fill down will be warmer than 10 ounces of 600 power fill down. But 10 ounces of 600 power fill down will be warmer than 1 ounce of 800 power fill down. The trek 900 is 2-3x as thick and significantly warmer than the trek 100.

The problem with Décathlon is the description or better said LACK of any details in the scant description. It’s very frustrating there are no details about material, construction or features. Absolutely no mention of anything. I can go to MEC’s website and it tells me everything I need to know about all the important details. Decathlon has no mention of the fabric, the zippers, pockets, sewn through or not etc. etc. etc. You have a great channel and I enjoy everything you do. If not for your review of these products I wouldn’t have a clue. Please tell them to up their game so consumers can make an informed decision. This is unthinkable in today’s e-commerce environment.

I dont have any sponsors and have never had a company sponsor a video! I'd disclose any video sponsorship or if a piece of gear I was reviewing was received for free. It's actually been over six months since I did a review of a Decathlon product. I do use quite a bit of stuff from them as they make great gear at a great value, which allows me to spend my limited budget on some more expensive pieces of gear like my winter tent. The only bias I have is that I show gear that I buy that works for me and fits within my budget, unfortunately that limits the gear that gets showcased on my channel. Especially since KZbin isn't a full time job for me!

I'm not saying this jacket is good because it's from a company that's new to the US. I'm saying it's good because it has technical features, materials, and construction quality that makes it stand out from other less expensive options and allows it to compete with jackets 2-3x the cost. Generally, I think the technical features is where Decathlon differs from other brands with low cost options that may be more targeted towards streetwear.
